There is also its treatment of female characters, avoiding the gender tropes so prevalent in shonen anime to portray a wider variety of female perspectives. With Jujutsu Kaisen coming to an end with just a few more chapters, fans now have the opportunity to experience other, similar shonen anime and manga that have gone under the radar.

Ushio To Tora 

Remember the initial relationship between Sukuna and Yuji? Now imagine that but if Sukuna was a softie who came around and started working with Yuji instead of against him. That’s the premise of Ushio To Tora. The anime centers around a young boy, Ushio Aotsuki and a supernatural tiger-like monster called Tora who follows him around. 

Ushio accidentally frees Tora at the start of the series, but is able to keep him from devouring him. The two’s relationship starts as an antagonistic one, but as Tora agrees to help Ushio, the antagonism becomes more comical than anything. The anime is fast-paced with lots of good action and plenty of funny scenes as the ancient tiger-like demon tries to adapt to modern life.

Devilman Crybaby 

Based on Go Nagai’s Devilman, Devilman Crybaby follows Akira Fudo, who becomes the titular Devilman after being possessed by a powerful demon named Amon. Not too different from Yuji gaining cursed energy via Sukuna’s possession of him – he major difference, however, is that unlike Yuji, Akira completely absorbs Amon, gaining access to all his powers.

The story then follows Akira’s childhood friend Ryo Asuka’s attempts to expose the existence of demons while protecting Akira’s secret, with plenty of twists along the way. Much like Jujutsu Kaisen, Devilman Crybaby is also a dark fantasy. The anime features a lot of graphic violence and adult content, making it a must-watch for any dark fantasy fan.

Fire Force 

Another dark fantasy like Jujutsu Kaisen, Fire Force features a post-apocalyptic world with few habitable areas after “The Great Cataclysm” set everything on fire. Almost 200 years after this incident, the Fire Force fights “Infernals”, humans made into living infernos via spontaneous human combustion. 

The anime follows Shinra Kusakabe, who’s a third generation pyrokinetic with the ability to ignite his feet at will. This leads him to join Special Fire Force Company 8 made up of other pyrokinetics. While there, Shinra learns that his presumed-dead brother was actually kidnapped by a doomsday cult called the White Clad. Now they’re after him to redo the Great Cataclysm for an ancient being. 

Beyond the Boundary

Despite its moe artstyle, Beyond the Boundary is a great series for fans of Jujutsu Kaisen to dive into, and is actually relatively short – making it a great binge-watch. The series follows Akihito Kanbara after rescuing his classmate, Mirai Kuriyama, from taking her own life. Suddenly, Mirai stabs Akihito with a sword, discovering that the very normal-looking Akihito is actually a “half-youmu”, making him immortal. Akihito subsequently discovers that Mirai is a Spirit World Warrior sworn to protect humanity from youmu.

She’s also the last surviving member of her clan, so, in classic shonen fashion –she and Akihito join forces to help her gain enough confidence to properly fight youmu. Beyond the Boundary is a gorgeous series, whose animation is just as impactful as its story. It’s a great choice for fans that want something that isn’t afraid to deliver powerful gut-punches to its audience.

D. Gray-Man 

Katsura Hoshino’s D.Gray-Man takes place in an alternate 19th century where exorcists fight to protect humanity against demons called Akuma. This premise is already similar to Jujutsu Kaisen’s, except Akuma are artificial creatures made by the Millennium Earl. 

In contrast to Jujutsu Kaisen’s sorcerers use cursed energy, D.Gray-Man’s exorcists fight using sentient holy artifacts called Innocence. The titular character Allen Walker starts by working with other Black Order exorcists to search for Innocence, but things quickly become complicated as the series continues.

Hell’s Paradise

Hell’s Paradise asks its audience what they would be willing to do to return home with grisly, horrific body horror and mythology-fueled action. The series follows “Gabimaru the Hollow”, a shinobi on death row with a reputation as a soulless, mindless killing machine, who’s given the opportunity to earn his freedom by traveling to a deadly island of Shisenkyo in search of the elusive elixir of youth.

Competing against other death row inmates, Gabimaru, alongside his would-be executioner must traverse the deadly landscape and survive against not only other criminals, but against the horrific monsters on Shisenkyo.

Soul Eater 

Soul Eater is a shonen anime set at the Death Weapon Meister Academy or DWMA, a school for humans that can transform into weapons and their Meisters who can wield them. The anime follows Meister Maka Albarn and her scythe partner, Soul “Eater” Evans, on their journey to have Soul ‘eat’ the souls of 99 evil humans and one witch to turn into a “death scythe”.

Akame Ga Kill!

One of the edgiest anime of its time, Akame Ga Kill! is a staple for fans of anime that get gritty and dark just for the sake of breaking the hearts of its audience. The series initially follows Tatsumi, a young man who’s setting off to the Capital to earn enough money to send home and aid his poverty-stricken village. After unsuccessfully trying to join the army, Tatsumi is taken in by a noble family in the city who gets attacked by a group of assassins called the Night Raid. He then, in true edgy fashion, learns that this noble family was planning to brutally torture him.

After surviving the attack made on the family, Tatsumi joins the Night Raid, consisting of powerful fighters – including the titular Akame – who wield Teigu, ancient weaponry forged 900 years before the story takes place. Life doesn’t get any easier, though, as being a member of the Night Raid is filled with grievous challenges that threaten Tatsumi and the other member’s lives at every turn.

Baccano! 

Featuring alchemists, demons, and immortals, Baccano! is a highly underrated 16-episode anime based on Ryohgo Narita’s award-winning light novels by the same name. The anime follows a non-linear storyline with lots of interesting characters and has a good mix of drama, adventure, action, and fantasy.

Much like Jujutsu Kaisen, many Baccano! characters are highly eccentric, like the assassin Vino or the nonsensical thief duo Isaac and Miria. The anime even features immortals reminiscent of Jujutsu Kaisen’s Master Tengen, except Baccano!’s immortals do not age or evolve beyond the point they became immortal.

Dororo 

Dororo follows the mysterious warrior Hyakkimaru as he travels with a young Dororo in Sengoku era Japan. Hyakkimaru had his organs and limbs sacrificed to demons as a newborn. Now, much like Yuji and his fellow sorcerers’ quest to collect all of Sukuna’s fingers, Hyakkimaru is on a journey to regain his body by fighting and killing these demons.

Much like Jujutsu Kaisen, Dororo also falls in the dark fantasy genre, although the former has more adventure elements while Dororo is more horror and action elements. There’s also a parallel between Dororo’s Hyakkimaru and Jujutsu Kaisen’s Mechamaru, as both have weak/damaged bodies and must rely on prosthetics to fight. 

Tokyo Ghoul 

Tokyo Ghoul‘s anime adaptation is far from being perfect, and while the original manga absolutely reigns supreme, those wanting to fill the void left behind in Jujutsu Kaisen‘s absence would be missing out if they didn’t at least give the series a try.

The anime follows Ken Kaneki, a young man who exists in an alternate version of the real world where a subspecies of humans called ghouls exist, creating a looming threat as they can only survive by consuming human flesh. Going about his days as a normal young adult, Ken is asked out by a striking woman named Rize, who reveals herself to be a ghoul and tries to eat him, when in a twist of fate, heavy construction materials collapse, killing her and injuring Kaneki. Awaking in the hospital, surgeons inform Kaneki that they replaced his damaged organs with Rize, and in turn, he begins to realize that he’s turning into a ghoul.

Yu Yu Hakusho 

While not exactly underrated, Yu Yu Hakusho is a great retro shounen anime centered on a teenage delinquent named Yusuke Urameshi. Despite his troubled past, Yusuke has a soft side, much like Jujutsu Kaisen‘s protagonist Yuji Itadori. After Yusuke dies trying to protect a kid from a car accident, he enters the afterlife where he is named the Spirit Detective and sent back. 

This opening is very similar to Jujutsu Kaisen’s, with both Yuji and Yusuke being sucked into the world of supernatural creatures due to circumstances beyond their control. And while Yusuke’s new position is initially about investigating cases concerning demons and spirits, the anime quickly transitions into a more fighting-oriented one.

Shaman King

A supernatural adventure like Jujutsu Kaisen, Shaman King follows the medium Yoh Asakura on his quest to become the Shaman King capable of channeling the Great Spirit. To do this, Yoh must win the Shaman Fight, a tournament held once every 500 years.

While this anime is very different from Jujutsu Kaisen on the surface, thanks to its tournament style, fans of the Kyoto Goodwill Event arc will find it to be a very enjoyable watch nonetheless. The series features lots of interesting characters, imaginative plot twists, and nonstop action which will have any shonen fan hooked.

Noragami: Stray God

Noragami is a supernatural shonen series that follows a minor God named Yato who yearns to someday be recognized and have a shrine made in his honor. One day, Yato is saved from being hit by a young woman named Hiyori, who tragically dies in the process. Her soul becomes suspended in an in-between state, and requests Yato’s help to return her to normal. As the two bond and spend more time together, she becomes involved in the matters of gods, the afterlife, and other supernatural beings.

The series explores concepts like death and identity through many tried-and-true shonen tropes, and, much like Jujutsu Kaisen, tackles it all in a narrative structure that doesn’t spoon-feed its audience its true message.

Blue Exorcist

In the world of Blue Exorcist, demons possess living beings to hide unnoticed among humans. But like Jujutsu Kaisen, there are Exorcists who can see and destroy these demons. The story follows Rin Okumura, who, along with twin brother Yukio Okumura, is the son of Satan. Neither care much for that fact, with Rin seeking revenge against Satan for the death of their adoptive father. 

The main character’s origins are reminiscent of Jujutsu Kaisen’s Yuji, who doesn’t have the most conventional parentage either and gained his power by getting possessed by the King of Curses Sukuna. 

When faced with this choice, Eren chooses to destroy the world with the Rumbling. But the series’ ending suggests that’s not what the Rumbling was really about.

Explaining Attack on Titan’s Controversial Ending

In the last five chapters of Attack on Titan’s manga, the Rumbling comes to an end after Zeke reveals himself to Captain Levi who immediately beheads him. This redeeming sacrifice happens after a conversation with Armin in the Path. But despite Zeke’s death and Eren’s Titan being beheaded, the nightmare is far from over.

As the shiny centipede from previous chapters releases a gas shifting all nearby Eldians except the Titan Shifters and Ackerman’s into mindless titans, Mikasa sees a vision of a different life with Eren where he asks her to forget him. The vision ends with Mikasa rejecting that wish, tying Eren’s scarf back around her neck and making her way inside Eren’s new Titan form‘s mouth to kill him.

Armin also recalls a vision of Eren telling him his reasons for triggering the Rumbling. Vision Eren admits he pushed Mikasa and Armin away to set them up as humanity’s heroes. He then tells Armin about how the Founder Ymir’s restriction lasted 2000 years because she was in love with King Fritz. She’s finally freed from this love by Mikasa, although how or why is something even Vision Eren doesn’t know.

The vision’s surroundings shift as Armin asks Eren if he really thinks Mikasa could live happily with someone else. Vision Eren is initially apathetic, but when Armin gets angry, he admits he only wants her to have feelings for him. Armin exits the vision/memory to see Mikasa holding Eren’s severed head and after the two mourn their friend, she leaves to give him a proper burial. 

At the same time, the Eldians who transformed into Titans earlier become human again as the power of Titans is completely erased from the world. Eren’s former comrades also remember being visited by him, and they all mourn his death before reuniting with their remaining friends and family. Mikasa then sees a vision of Ymir who she bids goodbye to and the story skips to three years later.

What the Attack on Titan Epilogue Means

Three years after “The Battle of Heaven and Earth” we see Historia with her family while Eldia forms an army to defend against the remainders of humanity who hold a grudge against them. At this point, a group consisting of Armin, Reiner, Jean, Connie, Pieck, and Annie sails to Paradis to serve as ambassadors of peace negotiations between them and the Allied Nations. A flashback reveals Levi living in Marley with Onyankopon, Gabi, and Falco.

Meanwhile, Mikasa sits at Eren’s grave, telling him that everyone will be there to see him soon. The next few panels feature even more time skips, with one panel showing a woman who is implied to be Mikasa visiting Eren’s grave with a man and a child. We next see an aged Mikasa dying and being buried with her scarf while Paradis becomes a land of tall skyscrapers.

The following panels see Paradis carpet-bombed by the rest of the world with the manga‘s very last page featuring a young boy and his dog standing in front of a tall tree greatly resembling the one Ymir originally got her powers from. The cycle of war and hatred among humans continues, but whether this nameless boy’s story will end the same way as Eren’s or meet a better fate, only time can tell.

Differences Between the Anime and Manga Endings

Armin’s Vision 

One noticeable difference between the Attack on Titan anime and manga can be seen when Armin meets Eren in his vision. The anime alters this scene a bit to be more consistent with Armin’s personality and better embody the two’s friendship. Unlike the manga, Armin tells Eren near the start of the vision; that although he’s set them up as the world’s heroes, that’s not a role they intend to play.

Later, when Eren tells Armin that he will destroy 80% of humanity and that outcome has been determined, Armin argues with him, saying the massacre hasn’t occurred yet so he could just stop it. This leads Eren to reveal that he’s tried to change things multiple times. But the outcome is always the one he saw in his memories of the future. This change aligns better with Eren’s personality, letting audiences know that he did try to find another way and only did what he did because he believed it was the only possible outcome.

The anime also expands on Eren’s philosophy regarding freedom, with Eren saying that he’s “a slave to freedom.” And emphasizes genocide not being the solution to conflict with Armin arguing that while there may be no end in sight for their conflict, they have to believe they can eventually understand each other. Eren’s plan will make people lose faith in that, hammering in the lesson that they must kill or be killed.

Another change is that after questioning why things turned out this way, Eren answers himself, saying it’s because he’s an idiot with power. In response, Armin says he too has felt the desire to erase everyone from the world. And since he showed Eren the book about the outside world that led him down this path, he’s responsible for this too and the two will be together forever in hell. The vision ends with Armin saying that their next meeting will be as enemies and the one after that in hell. 

Historia’s Letter

The letter Historia sends to Armin and the others is a bit different in the anime and ends on a much different note, with her talking about fighting to end the fight. The anime also expands the conversation between Armin, Reiner, Jean, Connie, Pieck, and Annie as they sail for Paradis. This emphasizes the risk they’re taking by returning to the island while giving fans a more satisfying experience.

Epilogue 

The anime’s epilogue is also slightly different. The biggest difference is that unlike the manga where he’s traveling with Falco and Gabi, Levi is seen distributing goods to refugees with Yelena and Onyankopon. While Falco and Gabi are seen planting a tree in a later scene.

Is the Vinland Saga Manga Over?

Vinland Saga was first released on April 13, 2005, and, despite the author’s belief it would be over in ten years, is still ongoing. The manga is currently in its final story arc, called the “Vinland Arc.” The arc started on December 2, 2019, with the release of chapter 167: Voyage to the West (1). The manga is divided into four parts, all following Thorfinn’s life: War Arc, Slave Arc, Eastern Expedition Arc, and Vinland Arc (the current and final one).

For those wondering whether or not the Arc is close to its end, Makoto Yukimura — the series creator — revealed on Twitter (now X) that the Vinland Arc will have around 50 chapters and more than 1,000 pages in total. What is the Vinland Arc About?

If you don’t mind getting spoiled, the Vinland Arc follows Thorfinn and his crew during their endeavor to build a working and healthy settlement in Vinland. But upon arrival, they are forced to deal with communication difficulties, the suspicion of some highly respected figures, and the belief among some of the settlers that violence is the only path to prosperity.

The story’s future is unknown as we don’t know how historically accurate it will be, but Thorfinn and many other characters of Vinland Saga indeed existed and led an expedition to Vinland. After three years, the colonists gave up and abandoned Vinland, returning to Iceland. Will the author write the same story, or will he create a version in which Thorfinn succeeds? Probably the former — a bittersweet ending, with Thorfinn returning to Iceland with a new perspective on life.

Is Vinland Saga Season 3 Confirmed?

There’s currently no confirmation as to whether or not Vinland Saga will receive a third season, which, if greenlit, will most likely cover the whole Eastern Expedition Arc. If you are like me and cannot wait to see some of your favorite characters — aka Hild — in the anime, I would not worry too much, as the series’ popularity alone is more than enough to guarantee a return.

The Apothecary Diaries Episode 11 Spoilers, Recap, and What to Expect in Episode 12

Tying off several mysteries in this episode, Maomao confronts Fengming who turned out to orchestrate Lishu’s poisoning. Lishu’s knowledge of the poisonous honey meant she was a loose end that could expose an older coverup of Fengming’s, which was the true cause of Ah-Duo’s son’s death.

Or at least, who was believed to be Ah-Duo’s son, as another mystery was explored about Ah-Duo’s familial connection to Jinshi. But Fengming’s guilt was palpable when she collapsed in tears of shame over failing her concubine so tremendously. She was put to death, and Maomao went back to the site of the servant’s suicide from Episode 9.

It’s here that not only the death was confirmed as a suicide, but Maomao’s suspicions of Fengming’s coverup grew, knowing this could be a way to cover her tracks about Lishu’s poisoning. Lies beget lies, while the most consequential lie left Jinshi alive, as it’s quietly revealed that he’s Ah-Duo’s son, switched at birth for his protection. After this whirlwind of developments, I can’t wait for the release of The Apothecary Diaries Episode 12!

The trio prioritizes disposing of his sketchbook and succeeds, but that makes him take on another more durable four-armed form. In response, Yayoi lets out the Oiran graduate who uses her first curse Soul Slurping, and second curse Plague to harm the boy’s spirit. Episode 21 started the confrontation between the Oiran Graduate and the Old I Watergate’s S-rank boy spirit.

Episode 21 started with Yayoi explaining the Old I Watergate spirit’s ability to convert body parts into meatballs by blotting out their images in his sketchbook. To break this curse, the sketchbook must be destroyed. As soon as Yayoi explains this, the spirit’s ghostly hands try to hang her while simultaneously trying to drown Keitaro.

Keitaro asks Eiko to help Yayoi first and thanks to her slime proxy, she can do so without getting hurt. The two girls then split up, with Yayoi aiding Keitaro while Eiko waits for an opening to knock out the boy’s sketchbook. The boy’s spirit transforms into a four-armed form and Yayoi releases the Oiran graduate.

This graduate’s first curse Soul Slurping lets her absorb the boy’s spirit energy while her second curse Plague inflicts a disease she had on her target. The episode ends with Yayoi fulfilling the conditions for Oiran’s third curse, Flaming Tower. Episode 22 of the anime will continue the fight between the two spirits although there is a chance Oiran will turn malevolent against our spooky trio even if she wins.

He wandered the grotto in search of the area boss, Clown Spider, killing smaller enemies and collecting loot along the way. Get ready for Sunraku’s encounter with the Clown Spider with the English Sub release date of Shangri-La Frontier Episode 10!

RECAP: Shangri-La Frontier Episode 9 Spoilers and What to Expect from Episode 10

Episode 9 starts with a meeting between Ashura Kai’s members and clan leader Orcelott. Arthur Pencilgon muses about a gamble to defeat one of the Seven Colossi, Wethermon the Tomb Guard. Later, Emul and Sunraku flee from the intimidating Psyger-0. This draws the attention of the Ashura Kai PKers looking for him. But Sunraku tricks them into believing he’s heading for the Iron Ruins, taking a detour to the Prismatic Forest Grotto only to encounter Psyger-0 again.

Sunraku’s shy classmate Rei Saiga, Psyger-0 sends him a friend request. Sunraku’s suspicious of her intentions but accepts the request anyway, turning down her offer to help him play. Psyger-0’s presence also deters PKers from following Sunraku into the Prismatic Forest Grotto and he can explore the new area in peace.

Sunraku defeats enemies like the Storage Papillon, Mimic Mantis, and Quad Beetle to collect money and items, heading out to find the area boss, Clown Spider, once he’s out of inventory space. Episode 9 of the anime will finally feature Sunraku’s much-anticipated fight against the Clown Spider.

The latest episode of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End continued the trio’s journey through the Schwer Mountains in the Northern Lands. Frieren fell asleep in the blizzard and Fern carried her until the three reached the Village of the Sword responsible for protecting the Hero’s Sword. 

The sword was commonly believed to have been pulled out by Himmel the Hero, but Stark and Fern learned that wasn’t true when they saw the sword in its rock while exterminating the monsters attracted to the site. Frieren explained how such false stories were created by fans over time and the trio traveled to another town to rest. Here, Fern learned of Stark’s birthday from Frieren and set out to get him a present. 

Viewers also got to see more of Stark’s backstory, including his older brother Stoltz who told him to run away the day their village was attacked. The episode ended on an emotional note when Frieren made Hamburg Steaks and told Stark they’re a way to reward hard-working warriors, making Stark realize the true meaning of his master’s and brother’s actions on his previous birthdays. Episode 13 will most likely delve deeper into Frieren and Himmel’s backstory as the trio continues their journey to Ende.

What is Mina Ashido’s Quirk?

Named Acid, Mina’s Quirk lets her produce corrosive acid from any part of her skin, including her feet. To allow her to use her Quirk safely, Mina’s skin is acid-resistant, although this resistance does start to wear off if she uses her Quirk for long periods of time.

Other than producing acid, Mina can control the viscosity of the acid she produces from streams to a thick, slimy acid she can use to create corrosive barriers and execute her Ultimate Move Acidman where she coats herself in protective slimy acid to increase both her offensive and defensive capabilities.

Mina’s Quirk is also far deadlier than it may initially seem, with her being capable of producing acid strong enough to corrode concrete and steel. To ensure she doesn’t accidentally burn her opponents or corrode everything she uses her Quirk on, Mina can control her acid’s solubility to dilute her Quirk as required.

How Does Mina’s Quirk Relate to Her Appearance?

Mina’s purplish pink skin has been confirmed by creator Horikoshi Kohei to be the result of the effects of her Quirk, although the exact reason behind this is unknown. It’s possible Horikoshi gave her pink skin to reflect how certain acid-sensitive substances turn pink on exposure to acid. Mina’s skin may contain such a substance to help her regulate her acid production, lending it its unique pink color.

Another unique aspect of Mina’s appearance is her horns and black sclera. These do not directly relate to her Quirk, so it’s more likely they are the result of an unrelated inherited mutation. Perhaps we will get more information on this peculiar trait if we ever see Mina’s parents in the My Hero Academia anime or manga.

One day, a D-Rank dungeon raid goes awry and in the aftermath, Sung Jin-woo discovers the System, a video-game-like program that makes him stronger as he completes quests. The anime’s dub cast was recently revealed, so fans can’t help but wonder – when will the English dubbed version of Solo Leveling drop?

As of November 2023, Solo Leveling does not have an official release date. The first trailer for Solo Leveling dropped in July 2022, with the series being expected to release sometime in 2023. The trailer gives fans a good look at most of the main cast, along with establishing the premise of the show. The visuals are crisp and colorful, and the animation is also super smooth.

Best Jeanist tried his best to suture his mentee’s heart together, but he couldn’t stop the bleeding or repair all the internal damage. Under these circumstances, an unlikely hero came to Bakugo’s aid. Edgeshot used his own body to stitch Bakugo back together, but does that mean the Ninja Hero is dead?

Edgeshot’s Fate in My Hero Academia

Thanks to his Quirk, Foldabody, Edgeshot can flatten and stretch his body out as thin as a surgical suture. My Hero Academia manga chapter 365 saw him use his Ninpo: Thousand Sheet Pierce “Extreme” to turn his body into threads which he sterilized with one of Wash’s bubbles before entering Bakugo’s body. Once inside, he began mending the internal damage to the younger hero’s heart and lungs, all the while aiding cardio-pulmonary function.

The catch? Remaining in such an extreme state eats away at Edgeshot’s life. This led most fans to believe that although Edgeshot may successfully save Bakugo’s life, he was unlikely to survive. But chapter 405 of My Hero Academia proved that, no matter in what state, Edgeshot is still alive.

After Bakugo saved All Might from certain death, Edgeshot made him cough up blood with a thin strand of the Ninja Hero emerging from his chest to inform him that while the Hakamada-style secret knotting he used to mend Bakugo’s bones and organs won’t come apart, moving around will be extremely painful.

Fans also got more insight into Bakugo’s recovery as Edgeshot explained how despite his efforts, Bakugo didn’t wake up until a little sweat sphere he had produced before his injury detonated inside his body. This indicates that Bakugo coming back to life was more his own Quirk’s work than Edgeshot’s and once he’s recovered a bit more, Edgeshot may be able to exit Bakugo’s body and start his recovery to normal.

Of course, it is still possible for Edgeshot to die at All For One hands as Bakugo faces All Might’s greatest adversary. Even if that doesn’t happen, Edgeshot’s body may have simply undergone too much stress to return to normal. Either way, we won’t know for sure until something official comes out.

Having lost the tools to create the world without the Quirks he dreamed of, Chisaki now had only one desire: to visit his ‘Pops’ and apologize to him. We don’t see him again after that episode, leading some fans to wonder what happened to Kai Chisaki in My Hero Academia’s manga.

Kai Chisaki’s Fate In My Hero Academia’s Manga

As Hawks and Deku finish talking to an injured Lady Nagant in My Hero Academia’s manga chapter 316, Chisaki enters the scene with Endeavor, screaming at the former Hero for getting caught and breaking their agreement to take him to his ‘Pops.’ He adds that the former Shie Hassaikai boss is all he has left and he must apologize to him, expressing remorse for perhaps the first time. 

Seeing this, Deku addresses his ex-adversary and although Kai lashes out at first, he is willing to listen once Deku mentions Eri, thinking she could rewind the boss out of Chisaki’s coma. Deku insists that if Chisaki wants forgiveness from somebody, he needs to apologize to Eri first. In return, One For All’s inheritor promises to fulfill Lady Nagant’s promise. As All Might enters the scene, Endeavor urges him to call the police, stating they have captured Kai Chisaki and Lady Nagant, the latter of whom also needs medical attention.

As of November 2023, we haven’t seen Chisaki again in the My Hero Academia manga, although it’s implied he was taken into police custody along with Lady Nagant. Chisaki seemed desperate to see the boss so there’s a good chance he’ll agree to apologize to Eri so Deku keeps his promise.

But there is still the risk of him trying to use Eri to revive the boss from his comatose state. Eri can even use her Quirk to rewind Chisaki till he gets his hands back, but given how his remorse is only for the boss, Chisaki will likely return to his old ways if that happens. 

But not every single episode of these series is canon. Hunter x Hunter has significantly less filler than most contemporary long-running anime, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Here’s the rundown on all Hunter x Hunter arcs along with their filler episodes.

The Hunter x Hunter franchise consists of two main anime series. The original anime first came out in 1999 and the reboot aired in 2011. The latter is often praised for its superior animation, and follows the manga more faithfully, although both series have surprisingly little filler.

The franchise consists of two anime series, three OVAs included in the original 1999 anime, and two non-canon movies that came out in 2013 while the 2011 anime was airing. Equipped with the proper gear to bear the Northern Lands’ harsh winter, the trio continues their journey. But are forced to take shelter when their party is hit by a blizzard. Next, they meet an elven monk named Kraft. He helps a collapsed Stark recover and generously shares his supplies which he’s finally able to access with the mages’ help. 

The episode ends with Kraft and the trio going their separate ways when the winter calms down six months after they first met. Although Kraft is certain he and Frieren will meet again in a couple of hundred years. Episode 12 will likely see the trio continue their journey to AuBerst so Frieren can get her first-class mage certification.

The group explores the area together, spotting a young boy drawing something near the river. But the boy turns out to be an evil spirit hanging everyone who visits the area. Episode 20 saw the evil boy spirit hang and cut Miss Shami. The spirit then appeared in front of the rest of the group, intending to do the same to them.

Episode 20 saw Yayoi, Eiko, and Keitaro head to the Old I Watergate where they encounter Miss Shami, a spiritualist who unbeknownst to them has been replaced by an evil spirit. Miss Shami tells the trio to stick close to her, although she seems to have nefarious intentions. 

The group then spots a young boy drawing something near the riverbank. Keitaro approaches to convince him to go home and he shows him his sketchbook with his tragic backstory. The group eventually figures out that the young boy is a spirit. And while it seems like he wants sympathy or empathy, what he wants is to hang everyone.

The episode ends with him hanging and dismembering Miss Shami and then approaching the rest of the group to turn them into meatballs. The next episode will likely be an action-filled one as the trio deals with this new threat. 

Sunraku’s quick thinking and determination helped him complete the Unique Scenario quest, leaving him free to travel forward from Thirdrema. 

But that led to a second problem: how to hide his unique appearance to avoid PKers? Emul suggested a solution akin to a ghost costume and as Sunraku obtained a map of the surrounding area, he spotted the intimidating Psyger-0 watching him from behind a building. Episode 8 saw Sunraku successfully survive the required five minutes against the level 120 Aberrant Woodmage, after which Vash interfered to kill the creature. This marked the end of the Unique Scenario quest although Sunraku did get a bonus quest he accepted.

Back in Thirdrema, Sunraku hid his appearance by buying an item resembling a ghost costume from Emul’s younger brother. This attracted all kinds of attention but didn’t immediately alert PKers looking to learn anything they could about the unique scenario.

As Sunraku interpreted the area map, Emul spotted Psyger-0 watching the pair from behind a building. Unaware that Psyger-0 is his classmate Rei who’s got a crush on him, the episode ends with Sunraku on high alert. Episode 9 will likely mark the second interaction between Sunraku and Psyger-0 where he might learn her real identity or at least begin to see her as a friend. 

It’s been clear in the past few episodes that Jinshi holds a romantic liking for Maomao who doesn’t seem to return his feelings. With this in mind, what’s the significance of the hairpin Jinshi gifts Maomao? Let’s explore that in this article.

Jinshi’s Hairpin and its Significance

In ancient China, hairpins were a status symbol signifying a young girl’s transition into womanhood. These girls were considered eligible for marriage after undergoing a hairpin ceremony at the age of 15. Other than that, hairpins also represented a token of love in betrothals and long journeys. As The Apothecary Diaries is set in Ming-era China, it borrows from history to depict being gifted with a hairpin as a significant gesture. 

The show does not explain the complete meaning behind the gesture, but fans can speculate. The first explanation paints the hairpin as a mark of special favor. By giving Maomao his silver hairpin, Jinshi is essentially making it known she has the favor of someone high-ranking and dissuading those who may bear her ill will.

This explanation makes Jinshi’s hairpin a mark of his protection and is particularly likely considering how Maomao spoke of giving herself freckles to make her less attractive as a protection measure right before receiving Jinshi’s gift. There is also a second explanation with a more romantic connotation. A young man gifting a young woman his hairpin can indicate romantic interest. 

We already know that Jinshi is romantically interested in Maomao, which makes this explanation equally likely. It’s also possible that the hairpin was meant to serve as both a protection measure and a token of romantic affection. Or it could be neither of those things, with its real significance being revealed somewhere down the line.

A second attempt at bringing creator Hiromu Arakawa’s story to life was made in 2009 in the form of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. This adaptation was more faithful to the manga and spawned numerous specials and movies. 

But with two different series and plenty of extra material, it can be a little difficult to decide on a specific watch order for this franchise. Keep reading to learn the best way to watch Fullmetal Alchemist in order.

The Fullmetal Alchemist franchise consists of a total of two anime series, two movies, and four specials. As the two anime series are simply remakes of each other, there is no need to watch both of them. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is a better representation of the manga’s story and the recommended option for new fans who want to get into the franchise. 

Still, there is value in the original Fullmetal Alchemist anime, so we won’t completely exclude it from our watch order. You are welcome to watch it either before or after Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, although there isn’t any harm in skipping it and its associated movie, Fullmetal Alchemist The Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa.

Code Geass follows exiled prince Lelouch vi Britannia as he leads a rebellion against the Holy Britannian Empire and his father, the Emperor.

Publicly donning the mask of Zero, Lelouch keeps his real identity a secret and is aided in his goals by the mysterious C.C. who grants him the supernatural power of “absolute obedience” called Geass. Despite this, Lelouch’s biggest weapon is his tactical awareness and cunning.

The main story consists of two seasons with a total of 50 episodes. This is supplemented by four OVAs, four movies, and a spin-off series called Code Geass: Akito the Exiled. The first two OVAs are merely recaps of the original two seasons and can be skipped, although they are still included in our recommended watch order below.

Based on Ichiei Ishibumi’s light novels by the same name, High School DxD follows perverted high school student Issei Hyodo who is killed by the first girl he dates, but is later revived as a demon by high-level demon Rias Gremory to serve as her underling. Aiming to become a harem king, the anime follows Issei’s journey across 48 episodes divided into four seasons.

The rear palace is where the Emperor’s many concubines reside, so the only males allowed in are either relatives of the Emperor or castrated Eunuchs. The anime’s deuteragonist Jinshi appears to be a beautiful eunuch with romantic feelings towards the show’s protagonist Maomao. But considering how the anime doesn’t confirm Jinshi’s assumed eunuch status, fans can’t help but ask if Jinshi is really a eunuch or not.

Is Jinshi Really An Eunuch? [SPOILERS]

This is a major spoiler for those not up to date with The Apothecary Diaries’ manga, but Jinshi is not an eunuch. This is confirmed in the manga’s Chapter 34 where Jinshi is seen drinking a medicine made from imported dissolved potato flour that allows him to pose as a eunuch. It is implied that the medicine decreases one’s sex drive when taken daily.

While it’s difficult to say if this medicine references a real concoction from the Ming era, the use of potato flour hints at it potentially deriving its properties from starch’s lethargy-causing abilities. But all in all, it’s difficult to comment on what exactly this drink is and how it works without more details on its exact composition.

Of course, if Jinshi isn’t a eunuch, it begs the question of how and why he’s allowed in the rear palace. The answer is quite simple. The truth is, Jinshi is a relative of the Emperor. His exact relation to the Emperor is another major spoiler, so we’ll leave that out for now. But know that things are going to get interesting as the series progresses.

While not big on romance, the series does hint at a potential relationship between its protagonist Kafka Hibino, and his childhood friend and superior officer, Mina Ashiro. So do Hibino and Mina end up together? Keep reading to find out.

Will Hibino and Mina End Up Together in Kaiju No. 8?

Kaiju No. 8’s protagonist Kafka Hibino cares for and admires Captain Mina Ashiro, hoping to one day fulfill his childhood promise of fighting beside her. Unlike most of the other characters in the series who only see her unfeeling and badass side, Hibino remembers the young Mina who lost everything and hopes to ease her burden by being there for her.

Of course, that’s not to say Hibino doesn’t acknowledge the Third Division Captain’s strength. The 32-year-old repeatedly expresses how awesome he thinks Mina is and works hard to become worthy of the spot beside her. Mina is also shown to be fond of Hibino, sporting her first smile when he embarrasses himself during the recruitment ceremony by using her first name and publicly declaring his goal of standing beside her.

Kafka’s promise of fighting Kaiju beside her means just as much to Mina as it does to him since she never forgets about it and tells him she’ll be waiting for the day he fulfills it. The two even share a cute scene in chapter 69 where Mina invites Hibino to have lunch with her and expresses her concerns about the possibility of him not being able to transform back.

But while it’s clear that Kafka and Mina share a special relationship, nothing can be said about whether their feelings are romantic or purely platonic. Given that Kaiju No. 8 is a Shonen series, the two may eventually have a budding romance and become something more than friends. Although romance isn’t the central focus of this series, so we wouldn’t bank on it happening.

So does Izuku view Uraraka as more than a friend? And will Deku and Uraraka end up together? Those are the questions we’re looking to answer in this article.

Are Deku and Uraraka Together in My Hero Academia?

Uraraka has been shown to have romantic feelings for Izuku since the anime’s first season. She blushes around him, thinks of him while fighting, and is always there for him, even being the one to appeal to the mob looking to sacrifice Deku in the anime’s sixth season.

Despite her crush, Uraraka has yet to confess to Deku, choosing to suppress her feelings to focus on her role as a Hero instead. There is one scene in chapter 394 of the My Hero Academia manga where Uraraka tells Himiko Toga her life story in an attempt to connect with her and outright admits to having fallen in love with Izuku Midoriya. But given how the war against All For One is still ongoing, that’s the most we see of this potential relationship.

There is also the matter of Deku’s feelings towards Uraraka. While it’s clear that he cares about her, whether that care stems from romantic love or simple platonic affection is uncertain. Still, given how often he’s seen blushing around her, it won’t be wrong to conclude that Deku’s at least a bit attracted to Uraraka. Although My Hero Academia’s protagonist has an easily flustered personality, his bond with Uraraka is special, with her being one of the major reasons he chose Deku as his hero name.

So while there have been no confessions of love from either side, it doesn’t take a genius to conclude that Kohei Horikoshi wants Deku and Uraraka to eventually end up together. Whether this will happen during the current arc of the manga or in a kind of time-skip epilogue remains to be seen.

The show approaches these mysteries in a very refreshing manner, with Maomao’s apothecary experience giving her some interesting insights. Let’s cover all the medical mysteries featured so far in the anime below.

The Apothecary Diaries: All Medical Mysteries 

Emperor’s Children Dying 

The first medical mystery seen in the first episode of the series is a perplexing one. While working in the rear palace, Maomao hears a rumor about how all the Emperor’s children mysteriously die after getting sick. None of the Emperor’s physicians can help, and the sickness is believed to be the result of a curse.

The newest victims of the ‘curse’ are Lady Gyokuyou’s daughter and Lady Lihua’s son, both of whom are sick. Other than the newborns, the mothers are also suffering from three main symptoms: headaches, stomachaches, and nausea.

Maomao is eventually able to figure out that the cause behind the newborn’s sickness is the white face powder used by the concubines, which she calls poisonous.

But what exactly was this face powder made of, and why did Maomao call it poisonous? Evidence suggests ancient China may have been using poisonous lead-based synthetic whitening makeup as early as 770 to 476 BC.

As the show takes place in a fictional country inspired by Ming-era China, the poisonous face powder was likely lead-based. This is backed by the concubines’ symptoms, which match the symptoms of lead poisoning. 

Mysteriously Sick Soldiers 

The second episode of The Apothecary Diaries brings us another medical mystery in the form of soldiers in an army camp mysteriously falling sick after eating food cooked by villagers. Many instantly suspect poisoning, but an officer dissuades them from acting rashly. 

Jinshi seeks Maomao’s opinion on the situation, who explains that instead of deliberate poisoning, it’s more likely that the food was accidentally cooked near naturally found toxic plants.

To elaborate on her point, she uses the Rhododendron flowers around the rear palace as an example. These flowers cause nausea and difficulty breathing when chewed upon — the same symptoms experienced by those unlucky soldiers.

Maomao also mentions how some woods produce toxic fumes when burned. We see the soldiers burning wood at their camp and using branches as chopsticks.

These could be from Nerium Oleander, a shrub that is poisonous if ingested and produces toxic fumes upon burning. Symptoms of Oleander poisoning include nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, agitation, fast respiration, convulsion, and coma. If not treated immediately, the condition may cause death. 

Rash Causing Tablets

The Apothecary Diaries’ third medical mystery is seen in the show’s episode five and relates to an eunuch who gets a rash on his hands after touching some wooden tablets as part of his usual routine of burning the trash produced in the rear palace. The tablets color the fire an unusually bright green, convincing the eunuch that there is a curse at play. 

This mystery has not reached its conclusion yet, but Maomao demonstrated how different compounds change the color of a fire, leading Jinshi to believe that the wooden tablets were coated in something to serve as a secret code.

Given the color of the fire produced and how it caused a rash, the wooden tablets could be coated in Borax. The Ancient Chinese used Boric Acid as early as the 10th century and since the wooden tablets were accompanied by a female’s clothes, borax seems the most likely culprit.

Poisonous Layered Drink

The anime’s fourth medical mystery is seen in episode eight, when a servant girl from a nearby brothel summons Maomao for what seems like a double suicide attempt. The courtesan is gasping for breath, while the man is unconscious and pulseless. Seeing tobacco leaves scattered around the room, Maomao suspects tobacco poisoning, which she treats with powdered charcoal. But something doesn’t seem right, and after more details emerge, Maomao is able to put together the actual story.

The man was a rich merchant’s son with a history of sweet-talking and dumping courtesans. Thus, the courtesan tried to murder him using a layered drink composed of a high-density, non-poisoned drink with a low-density drink laced with tobacco poison on top. The courtesan drank from the same cup to remove suspicion of poison, but cleverly used a wheat stalk to only drink from the lower layer. After the man was poisoned, the courtesan took a sip as well to make it look like a double suicide.

Maomao calls tobacco poison in this episode, and for good reason. Tobacco contains nicotine, which in high doses causes nicotine poisoning, leading to difficulty breathing, abnormal heart rhythms, shock, paralysis, and even death. The courtesan and merchant’s son’s symptoms are consistent with this, with the courtesan’s symptoms being milder due to consuming a smaller amount of nicotine.

Full of gag comedy and crazy situations, the franchise retains its re-watch value even decades later. But with nine different parts, it can be a bit difficult to figure out the exact watch order. Keep reading to learn how to watch all the American Pie movies in order.

All American Pie Movies Viewing Order

The full American Pie series consists of four main movies following the same cast as the one released in 1999 and five spin-offs. All nine movies are set in East Great Falls High School, and while the four original movies are sequels taking off where the last one left, they can still be watched as standalone. 

The five spin-offs are all completely independent with a fresh cast of characters — although they sometimes feature cameos from the original cast. With all that in mind, there are two different ways to enjoy this iconic comedy series. The first is to watch all nine movies in the order in which they were released as shown below.

Episode 19 saw Keitaro successfully retrieve the Oiran Graduate after being pulled into the Spirit World.

Episode 19 focused more on Keitaro after he was pulled into the Spirit World upon entering the haunted love hotel hosting Yayoi’s Oiran Graduate Spirit. He followed Yayoi’s instructions to enter the secret room she hid the graduate in. But once he entered, he found Eiko tied in a tub of water.

Keitaro rushed to free Eiko but soon realized the one in front of him wasn’t Eiko but the Oiran Graduate trying to get him to undo her seal. The Graduate kept pressuring him to free her, using Eiko’s face and voice to seduce him. Eventually, Keitaro tricked the Graduate by agreeing to open her seal but using Yayoi’s tool to strengthen it instead.

The Graduate stopped Keitaro before he could tighten the rope cage, but Eiko sensed Keitaro’s presence and reached out to pull him, tightening the rope in the process. Now that they’ve retrieved the Oiran Graduate, episode 20 will likely see our spooky trio head to the S-ranked haunted location, Old I Watergate. 

Flamme taught Frieren to suppress her mana, a skill that came in handy when Aura weighed their souls on her scales. As the one with the greater mana, Frieren was able to make Aura submit and kill herself. RECAP: Shangri-La Frontier Episode 7 Spoilers and What to Expect from Episode 8

Episode 7 saw Sunraku successfully escape the Player Killers after him with Psyger-0’s help, who’s just happy he spoke to her. While Animalia took out Arthur Pencilgon with a last-ditch murder-suicide curse. Making his way into Thirdrema, Sunraku has Emul open a gate to Rabituza. Once safe, he sees an email from Arthur Pencilgon to speak in Unite Rounds and learns Katzo also got a similar email.

Sunraku is then led to the Vorpal Colosseum by Emul, where he must defeat ten monsters using only Vorpal Weapons. He successfully defeats nine of them after varying degrees of effort. But the tenth monster is a level 120 Aberrant Woodmage, something no one else has faced in the game before. 

Vash tells him it’s unlikely he’ll be able to defeat this monster, so he changes the win criteria to surviving five minutes instead. The episode ends with Sunraku focusing on dodging as the five-minute timer begins. Episode 8 will likely continue Sunraku’s survival match against the Aberrant Woodmage. We may also see more of Arthur Pencilgon and Psyger-0, with the former having potentially nefarious plans involving Sunraku and the latter continuing her search for him.

Explaining All Titan Types in Attack on Titan

Pure Titans

The vast majority of titans seen in the series, Pure Titans are mindless naked humanoid creatures ranging in height anywhere from 2 to 15 meters. They are transformed Subjects of Ymir whose sole purpose is to find and devour humans, although they can’t digest or obtain nutrition from them. 

Pure Titans lack reproductive organs, and although they resemble humans, their body proportions are unnaturally deformed. Like all other titans, these titans can regenerate from any injury that doesn’t cut the base of the neck, which is where the human body of the transformed Subject of Ymir lies. 

Abnormal Titans

Abnormal Titans are a subtype of Pure Titans that display unpredictable behaviors like ignoring isolated humans, running, speed-walking, and jumping large distances. Some of them also display unusual intelligence, like the Abnormal Titan in the OVA, Ilse’s Notebook, who was capable of human speech.

Other than the above-mentioned features, Abnormal Titans are similar to Pure Titans in appearance, with the same desire to devour humans (although they may be able to temporarily resist it) and the same weaknesses.

Attack Titan

One of the Nine Titans, the Attack Titan is an intelligent titan with the ability to access the memories of both its past and future holders. It was the only Titan other than the Founding Titan to never fall into Marley’s hands, and was passed on to Attack on Titan’s protagonist Eren Yeager through his father Grisha Yeager, and predecessor Eren Kruger.

The Attack Titan’s appearance varies depending on the holder, but it generally takes the form of a 15-meter tall, muscular nude humanoid. It lacks reproductive organs and has body proportions closely resembling those of a human. And while lacking any special abilities other than its future sight, Eren’s Attack Titan can harden itself after consuming a special serum. 

Armored Titan

Also 15 meters tall, the Armored Titan is one of the intelligent Nine Titans characterized by a layer of hard armor-like skin plates all over its masculine humanoid body. These plates offer it the ability to withstand direct canon hits, ultrahard steel blades, and even the Colossal Titan’s transformation explosion. Although it did take damage from the Mid-East Allied Forces’ anti-Titan artillery. 

Other than its defensive benefits, the Armored Titan is also great for dealing high amounts of damage. We see this when Reiner Braun used it to break through Wall Maria’s north gate. This Titan can also harden its hands and feet into crystal-like claws. Although it’s slower than some other titans thanks to its increased weight and restricted movement.

Colossal Titan

The tallest of the intelligent Nine Titans, the Colossal Titan, stands at an impressive 60 meters. Resembling a skinless humanoid with disproportionately long arms, this Titan can emit large amounts of super-hot steam at will, as well as control the explosion created during its transformation. 

But despite its destructive power, this titan does have some weaknesses. Most notably, the Colossal Titan burns through its muscle mass to produce steam. As such, if this ability is used repeatedly, it will result in progressively decreasing muscle mass until only the Titan’s bony skeleton remains. 

Female Titan

Inherited by Annie Leonhart, the Female Titan is a 14-meter-tall intelligent Titan with the ability to mimic other intelligent Titans’ abilities by consuming parts of them. Appearance-wise, the Female Titan resembles a giant muscular female lacking reproductive organs.

Its displayed abilities include crystal-like hardening on any part of its body and a scream that attracts Pure Titans to its location, at which point they try to eat her. It’s difficult to say if these abilities were always a part of the Female Titan’s skill set or were externally acquired.

Beast Titan

At 17 meters, the Beast Titan is slightly larger than most of the Nine Titans. But what really sets it apart is its animal-like appearance. Zeke’s Beast Titan greatly resembles an ape, although previous holders had forms with varying animal traits, ranging from rabbits to goats. 

We don’t know much about the normal abilities of the Beast Titan, although they likely depend on their animal trait. Thanks to his royal blood, Zeke’s Beast Titan has the special ability to convert Subjects of Ymir into Pure Titans using his spinal fluid and control them. He can also harden his nape and accurately throw large objects like boulders to cause mass destruction.

Cart Titan

The only quadrupedal member of the Nine Titans, the Cart Titan’s special ability is its high endurance which lets it transform repeatedly and remain transformed for long periods of time. Pieck Finger claimed to be able to consecutively transform hundreds of times before she felt fatigued.

Often used to carry supplies and troops in battle, the Cart Titan is exceptionally fast despite its lower regeneration speed and defenses. When equipped with harnesses holding various weapons, this titan can act as a mobile gunnery platform, greatly increasing its combat abilities.

Jaw Titan

As its name suggests, the Jaw Titan’s special attributes are its powerful jaws and claws that can tear through everything from the Warhammer Titan’s almost impenetrable crystal shell to armored man-made structures like turrets. At just 5 meters, this Titan resembles a short and stocky humanoid and is probably the smallest of the Nine Titans. Although its small size also makes it the fastest. 

Other than this titan’s typical abilities, Falco’s Jaw Titan featured wings and a tail that allowed it to fly. This was likely a result of the Beast Titan’s spinal fluid that triggered Falco’s transformation into a Pure Titan.

Warhammer Titan

Held by the Tybur Family for generations, the distinctively white-skinned Warhammer Titan specializes in producing structures using hardened Titan flesh. This ability is most often used to create spikes, bladed weapons, the Titan’s signature war hammer, and even flexible weapons like bows and arrows. 

Other than that, this 15-meter-tall titan also has the unique ability to remotely operate its Titan body. The human operator is hidden in crystal with a cord of Titan flesh connecting to the Titan body, eliminating the weak point at the nape.

Founding Titan

Also known as the Progenitor Titan, Ymir’s Founding Titan was the first Titan in history boasting a bunch of unique abilities. It’s scream can create and control Titans, and alter the memories and anatomy of all the Subjects of Ymir excluding Ackermans.

The Founding Titan also can telepathically connect with all the Subjects of Ymir, allowing for telepathic mass communication. Much like the Attack Titan, it allows its holder to inherit the memories of future inheritors, making it so the holder perceives time as non-linear. But all these abilities can only be used by those of royal blood.

With the last few panels of the manga depicting a woman resembling Mikasa visiting Eren’s grave with a man resembling Jean, fans couldn’t help but speculate if Jean ends up with Mikasa.

The anime limited that scene to a still during the mid-credits, allowing for a much more ambiguous interpretation. But that still leaves the question, who does Jean end up with in Attack on Titan’s ending? Let’s answer this below!

Does Jean End Up With Anyone in Attack on Titan?

Unfortunately, we don’t have a confirmed relationship status for everyone’s favorite horse face, Jean Kirstein. There is a lot of speculation about him ending up with Mikasa based on the aforementioned scene where a child and a man with light-colored hair in the same hairstyle as Jean accompany a woman believed to be Mikasa to Eren’s grave. 

Others speculate that the man is not Jean and instead is just some unnamed male character whose only significance to the series is as Mikasa’s husband. While still more argue that the woman may not be Mikasa or the man with her may be just a friend instead of her husband. There are even those who believe the man to be Armin, as the anime version of the scene shows him sporting blond hair.

Who Could Jean End Up With?

The first and most obvious choice is Mikasa, as it’s clear Jean used to be interested in her. When Armin, Reiner, Jean, Connie, Pieck, and Annie sail to Paradis as ambassadors of peace negotiations, Jean is seen repeatedly fixing his hair. He gets teased for it and replies he wants to look good for the school girls reading history books. But given that the group is on their way to Paradis where Mikasa lives, it’s completely possible a part of him still wants to look good for Mikasa.

Other than Mikasa, there is some speculation that Jean could end up with Pieck as his first compliment to Mikasa was on her long dark hair, a trait Pieck also exhibits. He was even shown to care for Pieck’s wellbeing when the two fought together against the Rumbling. Although there is no official confirmation of a relationship between the two. 

Finally, we can’t dismiss the possibility of Jean remaining single forever or ending up with some unnamed female character. Jean repeatedly expressed a desire to start a family and live a peaceful life, so perhaps he was able to meet someone down the line to fulfill that dream.

But while one conflict was resolved, another brewed in the shadows. The Spectre of Death Kuubou fought Ai’s ‘god’ spirit and consumed Kishimojin, who was unable to fight back due to its restriction on not harming children. Episode 18 marked Eiko and Yayoi’s successful acquisition of a Graduate Spirit Dorm as Kuubou consumed Kishimojin to become more powerful.

RECAP: Dark Gathering Episode 18 Spoilers and What to Expect in Episode 19

Episode 18 starts with Yayoi saving Eiko from the third ‘angel’ spirit. But before Yayoi can destroy it, the weakened spirit eats the daughter’s ghost and gravely injures the father’s ghost. Once the threat is eliminated and Eiko’s curse removed, Eiko confirms her purchase of the abandoned house. The two girls then go to see Keitaro and make plans to grab Yayoi’s Oiran Graduate Spirit the next day. 

Meanwhile, Ai’s ‘god’ spirit engages in battle against The Spectre of Death Kuubou, who it easily defeats. Intrigued by its abilities, the god spirit heals Kuubou and advises it on how to better use its telekinesis. Kuubou then attacks Kishimojin, consuming its offspring as the other spirit is unable to fight back due to a restriction preventing it from harming children. 

The Spectre of Death eventually consumes Kishimojin for more power and the episode ends with Yayoi looking at a picture of her and her mom. Episode 19 will likely feature Yayoi, Eiko, and Keitaro retrieving the Oiran Graduate as Kuubou continues to gain power in the background. 

But feelings don’t always mean the couple ends up together. So are Annie and Armin together in Attack on Titan’s epilogue? That’s the question we’re looking to answer in this article.

Are Annie and Armin Together by the End of Attack on Titan?

While it’s been confirmed that both Annie and Armin hold romantic feelings for each other, the end of the world didn’t really leave them much time to confess and get together.

Fans did get a heart-touching scene in The Final Chapters Special 2 where Annie thanked Armin for coming to talk to her all the years she was crystallized and he indirectly confessed by telling her it was because he wanted to see her. Annie seems to get an idea of his meaning, as she is seen blushing after Armin lets slip that Hitch used to tease him about it.

But things can never be so easy for the Female Titan and 15th commander of the Survey Corps. Annie still tries to deny that Armin could hold any feelings for her, trying to convince herself that he’s just a good person before Armin insists that he’s as much of a monster as she is.

The two share many more sweet moments in the last two parts of season 4, most notably when Annie re-enters the battlefield to save Armin after insisting she wants nothing to do with it. 

Still, the two don’t really get a chance for a proper love confession and while they are seen together as part of the group sent to negotiate peace between Paradis and the Allied Nations at the end of Attack on Titan The Final Chapters Special 2, whether they are a couple at this point or not is completely left up to speculation. Personally, I would like to believe that the two confess and get together, but without official confirmation, it is difficult to make any claims about the two’s relationship status.

Does Reiner Have a Crush on Historia in Attack on Titan?

It can be said with reasonable certainty that Reiner does have a crush on Historia. However, considering how she is already married with children by the end of Attack on Titan: The Final Chapters Special 2, it’s clear this relationship is not going anywhere. Still, some fans may have been caught off guard by Reiner’s feelings for Historia, so we shall explore the two’s relationship a bit more below.

Reiner seems to have had an interest in Historia since Attack on Titan’s first season. The first time he expressed a desire to marry her was after he, Jean, and Armin lost two of their horses following their escape from the Female Titan. Historia came to their rescue with two extra horses and Reiner was shown thinking that she had to be his wife.

Episode 6 starts with a tense fight between Sunraku and Arthur Pencilgon, who know each other from the trash game Unite Rounds. During the clash, Arthur delivers her clan leader’s message: that Sunraku either publishes what he knows about the special scenario, or become a target. 

Not willing to give up his information advantage, Sunraku retreats to Thirdrema so Emul can teleport them to Rabituza.
