These basic tools will help you in the first zone, but they’ll be useless very fast. Essentially you’re starting from nothing, but with our Control Army codes you’ll receive an early boost than the average starting player.

Control Army codes give you free Gold, which is the main currency to buy new items. With Gold you can purchase larger Backpacks to carry more resources, stronger Weapons to defeat tough monsters, and more soldiers to aid you in battle. Gathering Gold in the game takes so much time, but if you redeem these freebies than you’ll start off with a couple thousand Gold from the beginning!

How to Redeem Codes in Control Army

control-army-codes-redeem

ShkatulkaGames made the code redemption process in Control Army easier than ever. To redeem your free Control Army codes on Roblox, follow these steps:

  1. Launch Control Army on the Roblox platform.
  2. Click the Codes button located on the left side of the screen.
  3. Type in a working code from our list above.
  4. Press Redeem.

And that’s it! Once you’ve pressed Redeem, your reward will automatically be added to your inventory.

How Can You Redeem More Control Army Codes?

Wondering where to find more Control Army Codes to cash in on some sweet rewards? We recommend joining the Control Army Discord Server, created by the developers. This server is dedicated to the Control Army community and you’ll find most new codes within the #faq channel. Additionally, you might even meet some new Control Army friends or get some helpful tips from other players.

You can also follow Shkatulkahero on Twitter for code updates, but in our experience, the developer doesn’t provide new codes so often. Even so, you’ll still receive development updates and it’s pretty cool to watch the game progress from its infant stages across every new tweet!

More Ways to Get Free Gold in Control Army

You can claim some extra Gold and additional rewards by walking over to the rewards section. It’s a small area in the first zone with a house model and some gold bars scattered around. Walking onto this platform will earn you some rewards. But in order to collect, you’ll need like the game on Roblox and join the Control Army Club.

Why Are My Control Army Codes Not Working?

If your Control Army codes are no longer working, the most likely reason is that the code has expired. The developers of Control Army can turn the codes off at any time which is why we recommend redeeming your free Gold as soon as possible. If a Control Army code has expired, we’ll do our best to update the page.

Roblox codes are all case-sensitive. It’s important to copy and paste the working codes exactly as we’ve written. Even one accidental lowercase could result in the code not working. Remember, you can only redeem one code at a time, too.

How Do I Get My First Weapon in Control Army?

Your first weapon in Control Army will actually be your Basic Wand. It’s automatically handed to you at the start of the game. But if you’re wondering how to equip it, press 1 on your keyboard. Doing so will allow you to fight pigs, destroy trees, and bushes to collect resources. Once your bag is full, you need to deposit the resources back at your base.

The more resources you deposit, the more Gold you’ll collect. After you’ve acquired enough Gold you’ll be able to purchase stronger gear and weapons, and new soldiers for your army.

What is Control Army?

In Control Army, players gather resources and return to their base to collect gold. This game is all about the collection process because you’ll use gold to grow your army, buy new weapons, and wear new armor. Your main goal is to travel further and explore new zones to defeat larger monsters with the biggest army that you can command!

Fighting-Type Weakness Pokémon Guide: What is Fighting Weak to? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/fighting-type-weakness-pokemon-guide-what-is-fighting-weak-to/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/fighting-type-weakness-pokemon-guide-what-is-fighting-weak-to/#respond Sun, 24 Dec 2023 16:05:00 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=975593 As a Pokémon veteran since the OG Red, Blue, and Yellow, I still have difficulty memorizing all 18 of the Pokemon types, especially fighting type weakness. And if I’m struggling to remember these combinations, I know one’s level of experience doesn’t matter. Everyone needs a refresher.

Fighting-type Pokémon prioritize melee attacks that mostly inflict physical damage; that much we already know. But we’ve got you covered if you’re looking for a further breakdown of a fighting-type Pokemon’s weaknesses, resistances, and strengths.

Every Fighting-type Weakness in Pokémon

Fighting-type Pokémon are weak against three types of Pokemon:

  • Psychic
  • Flying
  • Fairy

So, if you take a Fighting-type Pokemon into battle against a Fairy, Flying, or Psychic-type Pokemon, then heavy hitters like Cross Chop won’t be very effective. Whether you’re playing Gen I-IX, Legends Arceus, or roaming the streets with Pokémon GO (some caveats aside), these three weaknesses apply to pure Fighting-type Pokemon.

Related: Best Fighting Type Pokemon

What are Fighting-type Pokemon Good Against?

Fighting-type Pokemon are super effective against five types of Pokemon:

  • Dark
  • Steel
  • Ice
  • Normal
  • Rock

For example, if you’ve sent a Hitmonchan to battle, then it will absolutely dominate Pokemon like Umbreon (Dark), Steelix (Steel), Beartic (Ice), Snorlax (Normal), or Gigalith (Rock). Overall, Fighting-type Pokemon possess more strengths than weaknesses, making them one of the more balanced Pokemon types catering to an offensive strategy.

Best Dual-type Pokémon to Counter Fighting-type Pokémon

Breaking this down further, I recommend adding these Fairy, Flying, and some of the best Psychic-type Pokemon to either balance your team, or when you know you’re up against a difficult Fighting-type Pokemon:

PsychicFlyingFairy
HoopaNoivernTogetic
Gardevoir TornadusTogekiss
LugiaCorviknightEnamorus
Mr. Mime CharizardScream Tail
Galarian RapidashSalamenceClefable
Galarian ArticunoVivillonFlorges
Tapu LeleAltariaSylveon
SwoobatVespiquenIron Valiant

My list considers Pokemon that double up on two types of Fighting-type weaknesses, effectively making it more difficult for your opponent to inflict serious damage. Take these two examples:

Damage Absorbed from a Fighting-type Pokemon will only be .25x. If an opposing Hitmonlee (Fighting) used a Fighting move against your Lugia (Psychic/Flying), then your Lugia would only absorb .25x the damage. That’s not much damage taken at all!

Damage Inflicted, however, has the potential to be even greater against specific dual-type Pokemon. For example, Pangoro is Fighting/Dark. Both types are weak to Fairy. Since Fairy attacks deal 2x damage to Fighting and 2x damage to Dark, a Fairy move used by Scream Tail would deal 4x damage to the Pangoro.

Related: Best Flying Type Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet

Choosing pure, single-type Pokemon (Psychic Pokemon like Mewtwo, Deoxys, and Grumpig) is a solid choice, too, since it isolates a Pokemon’s weaknesses. Still, the list above might help diversify your overall team, assuming the NPC or competitive player also employs a dual-type team.

Best Single-type Pokémon to Counter Fighting-type Pokémon

If, however, you want purely single-type Pokémon in your party, there are still plenty of options at your disposal. For pure Psychic, Flying, and Fairy-type Pokemon, check out the list below:

PsychicFairy
MewtwoClefable
MewGranbull
EspeonFlorges
GrumpigAromatisse
DeoxysSylveon
GothitelleXerneas
NecrozmaComfey
HattremDachsbun
CosmoemSlurpuff

There are only four pure Flying-type Pokemon — Tornadus (Incarnate Form), Tornadus (Therian Form), Rookidee, and Corvisquire — so you may want to reconsider a single-type approach for this particular type of Pokemon.

Related: Fairy Type Weaknesses and Counters in Pokemon GO

All Fighting-Type Pokémon Resistances

Fighting-type Pokemon are resistant to three types of moves:

  • Dark
  • Rock
  • Bug

Naturally this makes sense, considering Fighting-type Pokemon demolish two out of the three types above. So, don’t use Dark, Rock, or Bug-type moves against a Fighting-type Pokemon unless your goal is to chip away damage slowly.

Is Fighting Weak to Bug Pokémon?

No, Fighting-type Pokemon are not weak to Bug-type Pokemon. In fact, Fighting-type Pokemon are resistant to Bug. The opposite is also true: Bug-type Pokemon are resistant to fighting. Since neither type will inflict high damage against the other, I recommend choosing a dual-type Fighting Pokemon rather than a pure Fighting-type Pokemon. For example, Infernape’s Fire/Fighting combo works great. In this scenario, Infernape would have access to Flamethrower to melt the Bug-type Pokemon.

Is Fighting Immune to Ghost?

No, Fighting-type Pokémon are not immune to Ghost — it’s the opposite. Ghost-type Pokémon are 100% immune to Fighting-type moves, so don’t attempt to bring an Iron Hands or Lucario to that particular fight.

Important to note: Ghost is not immune to Fighting in Pokemon GO. Immunities don’t exist at all in the mobile game.

Will Baldur’s Gate 3 Cross-Platform Multiplayer Exist Between PC and PS5? Xbox? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/will-baldurs-gate-3-cross-platform-multiplayer-exist-between-pc-and-ps5-xbox/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/will-baldurs-gate-3-cross-platform-multiplayer-exist-between-pc-and-ps5-xbox/#respond Sat, 05 Aug 2023 18:28:04 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=939202 Baldur’s Gate 3‘s cross-platform multiplayer functionality is a point of confusion due to the staggered release dates across PC, PS5, Xbox, and various store clients. Like any Dungeons & Dragons campaign, though, the most enjoyable adventures occur within a party of friends, and the opportunity to play wherever, however, is always preferred. So in this guide, we break down whether or not Baldur’s Gate 3 will support cross-platform multiplayer, alongside the differences between cross-play / cross-save and all the confusing jargon in between.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Cross-Platform Multiplayer Support, Explained

No, Baldur’s Gate 3 cross-platform multiplayer will not be supported between PC, Xbox, and PS5 but it’s more confusing than that simple answer. Right now cross-platform only exists for PC, broken down this way:

  • Cross-play works between PC and Mac, between Steam and GOG.
  • Cross-save works between PC, Steam Deck, and PS5.
  • 4 player local split-screen is available on PC, but not on Steam Deck.

Related: Baldur’s Gate 3 vs. Divinity Original Sin 2: Which is Better?

All Cross-Platform and Cross-Play Options for Baldur’s Gate 3, Explained

According to Larian support, cross-play will exist between Steam and GOG storefronts across PC and Mac. Cross-play functionality means all PC players will be able to party up no matter the operating system. For example, if you bought BG3 on Steam for PC, and your friend bought BG3 on GOG for Mac, the two of you will still be able to play online multiplayer together.

Cross-play, however, has not been confirmed between PC and PS5. So, if you bought BG3 on PC and your friend bought BG3 on PS5, you won’t be able to party up together. That’s what we assume given the information available.

Cross-save has been confirmed to work between PC, Mac, Steam Deck, and PS5. According to the Larian Studios Community Update #22, save data will transfer between all platforms. Assuming you plan to purchase BG3 across multiple devices, rest assured you can continue your campaign wherever, however — so long as you upload your saves to the cloud.

You’ll also need to register a Larian account to access Bg3 cross-platform multiplayer and cross-save services. This account will connect your data across all Larian games purchased across all platforms for seamless connectivity.

Related: Is Baldur’s Gate 3 Coming to PC Game Pass? Xbox?

Baldur’s Gate 3 Release Dates for All Platforms

BG3 has a staggered release cycle across platforms, so you may be confused about when you can play the game. Here are all of the confirmed release windows:

  • PC: August 3, 2023 (Steam and GOG)
  • PlayStation 5: Sept. 6, 2023 (Digital Deluxe Edition Sept. 3)
  • Mac: Targeted between August 3 and Sept. 6
  • Xbox: Late 2023/2024 (TBD)

The most confusing releases appear for Mac, which Larian has stated “is set to arrive after our PC launch.” And Xbox, which requires development across the Series X and Series S, has caused further unknown delay until Larian can ensure functionality across both Microsoft consoles.

PC and PS5 Compatibility: The Lingering Question

In my opinion, Larian Studios remains tight-lipped about PC/PS5 cross-platform multiplayer functionality. As I researched, I noticed the developer specifically didn’t mention PS5 on any of its FAQ pages. Technically Larian has never stated that PS5 cross-platform multiplayer wouldn’t be able to play with PC players, so who knows?

The developer simply hasn’t mentioned the possibility at all, and since the PS5 launch date is Sept. 6, it’s possible Larian will detail more PS5 functionality closer to release. In general, Larian Studios is really transparent with the community, often releasing regular updates directly to the players, so I imagine the devs will have a PS5-specific community update released around mid-to-late August. Fingers crossed.

For now, if you’ve bought Baldur’s Gate 3 at launch on PC, then we recommend encouraging your friends to purchase the game on their computers as well. Besides, with all of the various on-screen controls, I personally found controller support on Steam Deck clunkier than M/K, and I’m usually a controller guy.

Marvel’s Secret Invasion Preview: Episodes 1 & 2 https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/marves-secret-invasion-preview-episodes-1-2/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/marves-secret-invasion-preview-episodes-1-2/#respond Fri, 16 Jun 2023 20:20:12 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=929440 Similar to Nick Fury’s overdue return to Earth, Marvel’s Secret Invasion feels late to the party. Apart from a few stellar entries, Phase 4’s generally inconsistent quality led many to question whether the MCU’s peak performance had truly come and gone. That’s the general sentiment riding on Nick Fury’s tired, diminished demeanor — Earth’s mightiest hero wrangler spent the last couple years as an aged, deeply traumatized recluse. And perhaps the first two episodes of Secret Invasion examine Fury at his most intimate and nuanced, as a survivor of The Blip’s traumatic consequences.

MCU’s Secret Invasion: The First Two Episodes

First introduced in Captain Marvel (2019), the Skrulls, aka the shapeshifting alien refugees, are still searching for a new home after the opposing Kree decimated and displaced the species. Setting the ground stage, Secret Invasion follows Nick Fury’s attempt to thwart a terrorist plot — led by one Skrull rebel harboring a particular resentment. It’s a ground-level war that can’t be solved by one text to the Avengers, lest the Skrulls duplicate the most powerful beings in the universe. This is one of the more frightening, poignant premises, too: how do you squash an invasion when you don’t even know who the invaders are?

secret-invasion-maria-fury
Image: Marvel

The first episode performs the proper job of establishing our key players: Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), the conflicted Skrull “traitor”; G’iah (Emilia Clarke, pronounced “Guy-uh”), a punk Skrull terrorist uncertain of her place in the war; Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), the grieved leader of the Skrull rebellion; and of course, Nick Fury – who’s past actions have perpetrated this entire mess. Returning by Fury’s side is his partner and fan-favorite Maria Hill (Colbie Smulders), nailing a terrific performance as Fury’s true anchor, with layered depth to the role. These two hours offer espionage-level thrills, immediately establishing itself as serious as an HBO show with bleak content containing terrorism, torture, and PTSD.

We’ve All had a Mid-Life Crisis Shopping Spree

Unsurprisingly, Sam Jackson runs away with his character. As a string-puller behind the scenes Jackson’s rarely had the opportunity to explore Fury to this level of intimacy, but in Secret Invasion, we’re finally alone with the doors closed. We sit with him in pure silence, his pained face displaying the regret of long-forgotten skeletons smashing free of their coffins. We witness his firsthand trauma from The Blip, his inability to save humanity 100% of the time, and the uncertainty faced when unable to rely on the aid of his friends. Iron Man can’t save the day this time. Jackson doesn’t squander the moment, and how the character bounces back from the first two episodes will lead to even more consequences, I’m sure. Who knows how long we have left with Nick Fury?

Related: What’s the Password to the Invasion Has Begun Website?

What’s most satisfying is how Secret Invasion positions its cast against one another. As an audience, we’re here to watch a global war between human and alien unfold, but Secret Invasion invests just as much into the psychological battle between Fury and a group of Skrulls he once “saved” way back in the 90s. We’re presented with an examination of stakes rooted in a microcosm of betrayal, resentment, and unfulfilled promises. When the fate of humanity hinges upon the hurt feelings of a few individuals, how do you resolve it?

Quelling my biggest fear, Secret Invasion Episode 2 doesn’t waste its time delivering the promise of the premise — the invasion’s begun. Even more satisfying is how we learn to understand all sides of this war. The invasion isn’t just a throwaway plot to destroy all humans; it’s much more complicated. Gravik, and many other Skrulls, possess understandable motivations, and I can easily see Ben-Adir’s Gravik ranking high on villain tier lists. How these plans really tie into the MCU’s bigger picture paints an even more complex canvas since Phase 1.

Verdict

If the impressive quality of Secret Invasion’s first two episodes is anything to go by, then MCU’s ninth Disney+ series will be a contender as one of its best. The genre-packing thrills of espionage are all present: Marvel dials up the drama and the violence, which, at times, was more brutal than one would expect from the family-centric series. Strap in for an overdue, more serious affair compared to the MCU’s more recent outings, with cliffhangers that ripple across the MCU’s ground-level team. With Secret Invasion, Fury essentially sums up my feelings about the MCU post-Endgame: “Even when I’m out, I’m in.”

Disney provided Attack of the Fanboy with an early copy for review purposes.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Review https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/transformers-rise-of-the-beasts-review/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/movies-tv/transformers-rise-of-the-beasts-review/#respond Sat, 10 Jun 2023 19:49:18 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=927962 Paramount’s latest attempt to recharge the robots in disguise serves all the highs and lows one would expect from the seventh installment, or more technically, the second act of a rebooted prequel. Oh, how far we’ve come. Phoning in perhaps the best entry since Transformers (2007), director Steven Caple Jr. (Creed II) does his absolute damnedest to deliver an executive’s bulleted list of impossible demands: To introduce a new brand of Transformers to the big screen, the Maximals, and to, you’d never guess, pave the way for a Transformers universe. It’s shameless, really, to even pretend that Transformer: Rise of the Beasts stands a chance at reigniting a new era of Autobots after so many subpar entries, but why not give it the ol’ Dark Universe try? Even so, this two-hour ride’s hard to hate.

Autobots, Assemble!

Loosely following the events of Bumblebee (2018), Rise of the Beasts clunks forward to New York City in the ‘90s tuned to the era-defining sounds of the Wu-Tang Clan and A Tribe Called Quest. This time, Noah Diaz (Anthony Ramos, In the Heights), a down-on-his-luck ex-militant, entangles himself in the Autobots’ latest homeward-bound mission to Cybertron; the journey whisks Diaz and supporting lead Elena (Dominique Fishback, Judas and the Black Messiah) from the streets of Bushwick to Peru in order to thwart a planet-eater from ever feeding again. The ‘90s backdrop is a strong aesthetic, and to its credit, the Transformers series always succeeds at choosing a decade-appropriate soundtrack.

Related: Best Transformers Movies Watch Order (Chronological and Release)

Beasts, however, pulls too much from the era, borrowing tired character tropes like the can’t-catch-a-break protagonist with a sick younger brother and the underappreciated intern who’s way more adept than her boss. It works for and against the film — these paper-thin templates allow for a much tighter two-hour runtime, but you’ll never really care about Noah or Elena, begging the question, for a seventh time: When will the Transformers just axe the humans and focus on the heroes we care about? If Planet of the Apes presented a modern trilogy built on universal emotion, there’s no reason we couldn’t inject these qualities directly into the Autobots as exhausted, displaced warriors. The audience bought the concept decades ago. (Pete Davidson’s Mirage is the true scene-stealer, carrying 95% of the humor on his back. If you’re not down with Davidson’s brand, definitely steer away from Beasts, but he’s one of my favorite comedians working today. Dude’s hilarious.)

transformers-rise-of-the-beasts-mirage
Pete Davidson as Mirage. Image: Paramount Pictures, Skydance, Hasbro

It’s no surprise that Caple Jr. flexes hardest on the action as if he’s been handling these characters since day one, and with each battle, the setpieces grow bigger, the special effects more impressive, and the choreography more explosive. Some of the most crowd-pleasing moments across the franchise appear in Beasts, proving that a great director just needs a great script to match. It all culminates in an Endgame-lite battle that, while barefaced, still compels a hip crowd to go wild. Sure, Beasts lacks all sense of emotional baggage, but that’s a flailing series issue, not a directing problem.

Verdict

In so many ways Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is a hot mess, but it’s the biggest step toward the Transformers movie I’ve always wanted to see. Take this from a casual fan: Rise of the Beasts won’t appeal to diehard fans, nor will it demand more entries (enough is enough); the plot won’t make sense to anyone without a working knowledge of Beast Wars, and a complete reboot is long overdue, but this movie is best seen on a summer day, all asses in seats.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Review https://attackofthefanboy.com/entertainment/the-super-mario-bros-movie-review/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/entertainment/the-super-mario-bros-movie-review/#respond Wed, 05 Apr 2023 22:20:02 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=914109 In The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Mario and Luigi are two Italian-American Brooklynites who quit their day jobs to start their own independent plumbing venture. Problem is, these two entrepreneurs are in over their heads, at least, that’s what their family and former employers think. No one believes in them, and Mario, especially, detests being made to feel small, so when the business opportunity of a lifetime appears, he drags his brother to save Brooklyn’s sewage problem. One wrong turn in the sewers later and the boys embark down an Alice in Wonderland warp pipe, a direct trip to the Mushroom Kingdom.

The plot’s as paper-thin as any Super Mario game: Bowser’s a big ol’ meanie and Mario’s gotta save his younger brother. But to criticize the plot would be as moot as picking apart any Mario game’s story—it’s not the point. Nintendo knows this, Illumination knows this, and it’s the journey that’s so captivating.

A History of Mario, Through the Ages

Decades upon decades of Mario history are stuffed into nearly every frame of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. It’s a testament to the collaboration between Nintendo, Illumination, and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto’s devotion to the theatrical adaptation. Easter Eggs are built into this movie’s foundation from the scene direction to the score to the dialogue, requiring multiple rewatches just to spot them all. All of it’s earned, though, and organically built into the story’s foundation. No matter where you started, stopped, or took an extended Mario vacation, it’s impossible not to marvel at how breathtaking the animation and history blend on the big screen.

It’s sensory overload for all the right reasons. The Super Mario Bros. Movie is colorful, loud, and frenetic. Younger viewers will be glued to their seats cheering from the nonstop riot while Mario veterans succumb to the film’s faithful integrity.

But where The Super Mario Bros. Movie absolutely nails the game-to-movie translations are the set pieces. Incredible scenes are choreographed against 2D platforming and kart racing across various Mushroom Kingdom terrain we’ve jumped and ground-pounded away with sheer dexterity. I dare hold back from anything beyond the trailer at the risk of spoiling, but the teasers do a terrific job of withholding larger surprises. There’s no doubt about it: Illumination Studios absolutely nails the genuine active thrill of controlling Mario, albeit in a more passive state.

super-mario-bros-movie-image-2
Image: Nintendo; Illumination Entertainment & Universal Pictures

Everything Is… Awesome?

Mario veteran or not, the character is a cultural juggernaut, so we already enter the theater with expectations of the portrayals. Mario’s persistent and courageous, Luigi’s a lovable scaredy cat, Peach is more precious than Princess Bubblegum, and Bowser’s got serious communication issues. The King Koopa is very much inspired by Darth Vader, albeit an emperor with even more on-screen tantrums and a penchant for ragers. He’s a looming presence in one scene, then a crooning misanthrope with no regard for boundaries. It’s a funny contrast that allows Jack Black another opportunity to showcase his heavy metal chops.

The cinematic adaptation expands upon these quippy one-liner mascots, though, through snappy dialogue and Super Smash Bros. rivaling action. The games will never delve into Mario’s psyche, but in a medium that requires this type of investigation, the theatrical personalities are true to nearly every character.

Even so, you can’t help but compare The Super Mario Bros. Movie to another animated Pratt-fest: The Lego Movie. And for obvious reasons the actors, title, character arcs—hell, even the marketing—are transferable. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, however, plays the hero’s journey decidedly more differently than expected. Where Emmett Brickowski (Pratt) is a lovable himbo, Mario’s insecurities are more explicit; where Brickowski fails to notice his shortcomings, the perception of others chips away at Mario. Where Wyldestyle detested Emmett in The LEGO Movie, Princess Peach immediately embraces Mario as the world’s hero. In fact, Mario and Peach are the total inverses of Brick and Wyldestyle, and it’s because of this twist that the Mario Movie is truer to the mascots we’ve embodied for decades.

Alongside more inevitable comparisons, The Super Mario Bros. Movie still showcases many of Illumination Studios’ shortcomings: a reliance on gags and an inability to dig deeper into the heart of our characters. As much as the cast showcased their talent, it was surprising how little the secondary characters contributed. In so many ways, it’s just Mario’s movie, bar none—and the real issue resides in the pacing.

super-mario-bros-movie-1
Image: Nintendo; Illumination Entertainment & Universal Pictures

I’m Holding Out For a Hero

Although there’s no breadth of boredom, the sharp 90-minute runtime, while still a blast, also feels like whiplash from riding a Bullet Bill at octane speed. The mad dash pacing ignores the opportunity to invest time in secondary characters, in particular Princess Peach. One scene makes clear that the writers struggled to form her backstory, and it’s swept away like a blue shell that can’t be outrun. As a result, Princess Toadstool kicks ass in one scene and gets sidelined in the climax, just so Mario can sweep up. Princess Toadstool successfully evaded the damsel in distress trope, but now she’s just Mario’s cheerleader.

We’ll never forget who these characters are—they’re burned into the culture—but I argue that The Lego Movie invests more into plastic bricks compared to the Mario Movie’s more shallow attempt at convincing us to emotionally invest. Of course, this is just adult criticism—I dare you to find a gamer leaving the theater bummed out, and in the end, it’s our enjoyment that matters. Nine years later, am I going to reflect on Mario as I’ve done Emmett? No, but I’ll probably be too busy playing his latest adventure to care and, hopefully, cheering alongside a crowded theater at an Avenger’s style Super Smash Bros. teamup. Them’s the dream.

super-mario-bros-movie-3
Image: Nintendo; Illumination Entertainment & Universal Pictures

Verdict

Although The Super Mario Bros. Movie benefits and struggles from its runtime, it’s still a fantastic joyride, if not a speedrun, through the Mushroom Kingdom that’s sure to please fans of every generation. It’s a blast from start to finish, and Nintendo/Illumination have a hit on their hands that I can only hope will pave the way for a decade of Nintendo movies we’ve all dreamed up since gripping our first controller.

The shared universe, much like the original DC Universe in comic books and the television programs, was established by crossing over common plot elements, settings, cast, and characters.

Whether you’re newly diving into the world of DC movies or you’re a longtime fan who wants to binge-watch the entire series in order, here’s the best watch order for the DC movies. For the context of this list, we’ve chosen chronological order based on the in-unvierse timeline.

Wonder Woman (2017)

The first film to watch in the DCEU is Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman. The story follows Diana (Gal Gadot), an Amazonian princess who discovers her true identity and destiny after meeting American pilot Steve Trevor (Chris Pine). She then sets out on a journey to stop World War I from happening.

The main story takes place from 1914 to 1918, which is the time period of World War I. However, there are also flashbacks to Diana’s childhood on Themyscira.

Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

The sequel follows Diana working in the Smithsonian Museum and her encounter with the Dreamstone, which allows her to resurrect her deceased lover Steve Trevor. The film also introduces Barbara Minerva and Maxwell “Max Lord” Lorenzano, who steal the Dreamstone for their own selfish desires.

Wonder Woman 1984 explores the struggle between heroism and honesty when faced with difficult choices. Diana is tempted to use the Dreamstone to keep Steve Trevor alive, but she knows it’s not right. She must choose what’s best for the world, even if it means sacrificing her own happiness.

The DCEU film that started it all, Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel introduces Superman (Henry Cavill) as he tries to find his place in the world. Itlso sets up the conflict between him and General Zod (Michael Shannon). The cast includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, and Diane Lane as Martha Kent.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

batman-vs-superman
Image: Warner Bros. Pictures

In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the world’s greatest superheroes — Batman and Superman — go head-to-head in the ultimate showdown of good versus evil. Behind the scenes, BvS is where Warner Bros. took immediate action course-correcting their slate of films into a universe. If the movie feels muddled as a result, that’s because it is.

It’s a clash of the titans, as Batman (Ben Affleck), the world’s greatest detective, and Superman (Henry Cavill), the powerful alien from Krypton, come together for the first time on the big screen. But while they share a common goal—stopping Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and his diabolical plans—they have very different methods of achieving it. And as the two clash, the planet is caught in the middle.

Suicide Squad (2016)

dceu-movies-suicide-squad

In Suicide Squad, a secret government agency recruits some of the most dangerous criminals in the world to take on dangerous missions in exchange for reduced sentences. The team is then sent on a mission to track down and stop a powerful magical being called Enchantress.

It’s set in the aftermath of Superman’s death, which is why it comes after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice since it helps to understand the context of Suicide Squad.

Justice League (2017) / Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021)

Justice League follows a team of superheroes as they come together to stop Steppenwolf from conquering Earth. It features an ensemble cast including Ben Affleck, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher. The setting shows the heroes working together for the first time and provides context for their individual stories.

With more behind-the-scenes drama brewing, director Zack Snyder was forced to step away from production due to a personal tragedy. Marvel’s Avengers director Joss Whedon stepped in to finish, and the end result is a weird Frankenstein mess. Erasing Henry Cavill’s mustache still gives us chills.

With the dawn of streaming services and persistent fan outcry, Warner Bros. eventually cleared Snyder to finish his version of Justice League. In 2021, Zack Snyder’s Justice League released on HBO Max as a 4-hour cut that scrubbed Whedon’s interference clean and preserved Snyder’s original vision. It’s epic in scale, and arguably so long due to the absurd amount of slo-mo.

Aquaman (2018)

dceu-movies-aquaman
Image: Warner Bros. Pictures

Aquaman is a visual spectacle, with stunning visuals of the undersea world and some amazing action sequences. It’s also a great origin story for Aquaman, telling the tale of how he came to be the King of Atlantis.

Shazam! (2019)

dceu-movies-shazam
Image: Warner Bros. Pictures

Shazam! follows Billy Batson (Asher Angel), a streetwise 14-year-old who can transform into the adult superhero Shazam (Zachary Levi) by saying his name. While it lacks the high stakes of some of the other DC movies, Shazam! is a fun and lighthearted romp that’s perfect for introducing younger viewers to the world of superheroes.

Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (2020)

harley-quinn-movie
Image: Warner Bros. Pictures

Birds of Prey showcases Harley Quinn’s emancipation from the Joker and cements her place as one of DC’s most badass characters. It provides a good introduction to Harley and the other main characters.

The Suicide Squad (2021)

dceu-movies-the-suicide-squad
Image: Warner Bros. Pictures

The Suicide Squad is a standalone sequel to the 2016 film and features the same format of enlisting a team of supervillains to complete a dangerous mission for the government. This time, it’s taking down Starro, an alien conqueror. The Suicide Squad is directed and written by James Gunn, who is known for his work on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films, and will lead the entire rebirth of DC’s future films.

The best way to watch The Suicide Squad is after you’ve seen all of the other DC movies. That way, you can appreciate all of the Easter eggs and references.

Black Adam (2022)

dceu-movies-black-adam
Image: Warner Bros. Pictures

Black Adam focuses on the anti-hero of the same name, played by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The character is a former slave who was given superpowers by the wizard Shazam. There’s an interesting cameo in the mid-credits scene that DC fans should definitely watch out for.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)

shazam-fury-of-the-gods-1
Image: Warner Bros. Pictures

Shazam! Fury of the Gods is the sequel to Zachary Levi’s adventures as Billy Batson. In this film, Billy continues to struggles with growing up. Except this time, turning 18 means potentially losing a family he’s finally called his own. The Shazamily are still newbie superheroes and are still learning how to work together as a team. When a trio of ancient gods arrive in Boston in search of magic that’s tied to Billy, the Shazamily must join together to save the world from annihilation.

The followup to 2019’s Shazam! came and went like a pebble thrown into a lake. Meaning, Shazam! Fury of the Gods failed to make a splash with audiences. As James Gunn inches closer toward resetting the DC Universe, fans weren’t interested in showing up to a movie that no longer connects to the larger picture.

It won’t be long until The Flash officially resets the current DC timeline in June 2023.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves Review – A Charismatic Saturday Night One-Shot https://attackofthefanboy.com/entertainment/dungeons-dragons-honor-among-thieves-review-a-charismatic-saturday-night-one-shot/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/entertainment/dungeons-dragons-honor-among-thieves-review-a-charismatic-saturday-night-one-shot/#respond Thu, 30 Mar 2023 18:42:17 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=912864 On paper, a Dungeons & Dragons action comedy produced in today’s Hollywood sounds like a disaster. Dark Universe, DCEU, X-Men — to the groan of fans everywhere, we’ve been down this disappointing road. Might as well add it to the list of failed MCU cash-ins, right? Wrong.

Instead, directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (Game Night, Horrible Bosses, Spider-Man: Homecoming) beat the odds. Despite playing it safe, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves re-introduces the joy of humorous, witty fantasy while delivering on the action, magic, and glimpse of a franchise brimming with potential.

Let’s Audit Your Character Sheets

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves centers on Chris Pine’s Edgin Darvis, and in true D&D fashion, immediately establishes Darvis’s backstory as a charming, down-on-his-luck bard. After Darvis loses his wife to a tragedy, he botches his one chance at retrieving a lost resurrection relic. Jailed and alienated from his daughter, our tale begins with a bombastic, unique jailbreak, and, Plan C in motion, the audience straps in for the ride.

At its core, however, Honor Among Thieves is a heist action comedy, one that follows the familiar tropes of recruiting a team, learning to capitalize on each other’s strengths, and enacting a daring plan. Our band of thieves:

  • Edgin Darvis: Talented bard. Questionable thief. Champion of Failures. Wants to revive his wife, reconnect with his daughter, and restore his family.
  • Holga Kilgore (Michelle Rodriguez): Exiled barbarian with a heart of gold. On the lookout for love.
  • Simon Aumar (Justice Smith): Budding sorcerer. Shy around the ladies.
  • Doric (Sophia Lillis): Tiefling druid. Sharp distrust of humans.
  • Xenk Yendar (Regé-Jean Page): Valiant paladin. Lacks all sense of sarcasm.

Everyone on the team has a strong motivation. Their stats, strengths, and weaknesses work together to build a satisfying family of misfits. Yeah, Pine’s absent father trope is tiring, but even so, Pine’s talented enough as a leading man to justify the performance. It’s great to see Sophia Lillis own a new role, too, being one of the more overlooked talents from the IT (2017) crew. Justice Smith in particular is a standout — Simon’s distrust in himself results in plenty of magic-related fumbles, involving a fun use of portals, a time-dilated struggle to master a relic, and plenty more laughs.

This Isn’t a Fantasy Story – This is the Real World!

dungeons-and-dragons-honor-among-thieves-2-2

And that’s just it: Honor Among Thieves is a genuine gutbuster. Once I discovered the makers behind Game Night were directing, I was all in, and they sure delivered. In a different world, Goldstein, Daley, and co-screenwriter Michael Giglio could have easily cashed in on a cheap two-hour SNL skit — hi, Thor Love and Thunder — or shot sticky ectoplasmic nostalgia down my throat — what’s up, Ghostbusters Afterlife — but no. This movie’s just damn funny.

Sure there’s some dim-witted blade humor and amusement may vary, especially if you want epic drama mixed into your fantasy. Whether or not hardcore D&D players vibe with the chosen tone is totally subjective, but as a casual onlooker, my assumption is that RPG fans will spot plenty of satisfying references. Honor Among Thieves certainly isn’t Shakespeare, but its self-awareness is infectious. “You can’t solve every problem with magic. This isn’t a bedtime story — this is the real world!” exclaims Smith at one point. A cheeky nod to the audience, yes, but the delivery is spot-on and the joke actually serves the story instead of the typical corporate-mandated one-liners of recent variety.

Related: Dungeons & Dragons Coming to Paramount Plus, Will it be a Natural 20 or a Crit Fail?

If anything, though, see this film just for the cameo — I haven’t laughed that hard since Jackass Forever, or, since Jesse Plemons’s “Frito Lay” delivery in Game Night.

Visually, Honor Among Thieves is a genuine thrill. From sweeping, Lord of the Rings-style vistas, to Indiana Jones chase sequences, Goldstein and Daley used their budget wisely, and then some. It’s a testament to Honor Among Thieves’s devotion to puppetry and animatronics, alongside polished use of green screen. Compared to, ahem, certain superhero films of late looking nigh unfinished at higher budgets, the Honor Among Thieves talent paints on a better canvas with less at their disposal. And the magic, there’s a sweet abundance of spectacle. You’ll never be able to unsee a certain actor’s face distorting beyond comprehension.

There’s Honor Among Taking Precaution

dungeons-and-dragons-honor-among-thieves-4
Image: Paramount Pictures, eOne

Goldstein and Daley play their cards safe; there’s nothing truly unique applied to this heist formula, nor anything too wondrous about the environment. While no doubt impressive, the duo kind of built their careers upon safe but crowd-pleasing movies, no? So it’s no surprise that Honor Among Thieves plays within the genre’s parameters. Neverwinter itself, however, doesn’t win many points as a memorable setting. Yes, the dungeons, castles, and forests look the part, but the world and its supported soundtrack lack identity. And the film spends half its runtime introducing the main players.

Even then, Goldstein and Daley’s objective remains successful because the familiar still feels fresh. All involved clearly devoted love and care to the project while taking genuine inspiration from the fun that permeated fantasy (The Princess Bride, Monty Python and the Holy Grail). Perhaps that’s the trade-off of the large focus on character — at already 140 minutes it’s a stuffed pouch, so, expansive worldbuilding must take the back seat. While averting risk, these filmmakers are clearly talented at winning the audience.

dungeons-and-dragons-honor-among-thieves-3-3
Image: Paramount Pictures, eOne

With that said Honor Among Thieves still achieves its fair share of expositional worldbuilding. The seeds were planted effectively, albeit at a sometimes more engaging rate than the main garden. It’s by no means an explosion of nods and winks, but during some exposition, I couldn’t help thinking, Hey, what are we doing hanging around these goofballs? I wanna watch that movie with the Red Wizards! If Honor Among Thieves works on its own merits as a heartfelt heist film, what other tones, genres, eras, or histories can they capture next? It’s exciting to imagine.

Hardcore audiences may scoff at the film’s casualness, but the play-it-safe, no-risks approach might just be the proper tactic: construct a cohesive, standalone movie first. Then build upon the foundation. Play the long game. Ring a bell, anyone?

Verdict

Despite playing round one safe, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves strikes the right balance of teasing the future while delivering a self-contained, funny blockbuster, and a prime example of a proper start to a franchise since Iron Man (2008). Naturally, then, what the script lacks on a grand scale instead feels more akin to a one-shot adventure hunched over your best friend’s living room table, stuffing your face with pizza and soda.

Remember those days of olde? Boy do I miss them, and those fun, self-aware fantasy gems that the movies of today fail again and again to provoke. But not Honor Among Thieves; shit, I’d welcome the D&D cinematic universe with open arms. So in the end, who am I to judge the ectoplasm guzzlers in dire need of a nostalgic fix? Maybe I’m just like everyone else.

A Viral Horror Movie That Earned 100x Its Budget Is Available On Streaming Right Now https://attackofthefanboy.com/entertainment/a-viral-horror-movie-that-earned-100x-its-budget-is-available-on-streaming-right-now/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/entertainment/a-viral-horror-movie-that-earned-100x-its-budget-is-available-on-streaming-right-now/#respond Thu, 02 Feb 2023 23:14:16 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=894653 One particular streamer has quietly been growing an impressive catalog of originals, and if you’re a horror fan then you already know about Shudder. The streamer, dedicated to all things horror and the supernatural, is available as a standalone subscription, but you might not know it’s also bundled with AMC+. Skinamarink is the latest Shudder exclusive, and despite the indie horror’s shoestring budget, it’s been reducing audiences to their earliest childhood nightmares.

Skinamarink follows a basic premise: two siblings are roused awake in the middle of the night to discover their father is missing, and all the windows and doors have vanished. You guessed it, there’s an unknown boogeyman lurking in the shadows, too. But it’s the experimental lo-fi filmmaking that evokes pure terror. Like Paranormal Activity and The Blair Witch Project, Skinamarink employs the found-footage style, albeit with panning shots that seem to last for eternity and a special emphasis on darkness. Replete with creepy cartoons, distorted imagery, and sparingly used dialogue, it’s a total assault on the senses.

It’s the type of film that transports us back to being a child sprinting up the stairs to escape the unknown terrors chasing after us. “Are you afraid of the dark?” has arguably never been explored quite so viscerally, which was the goal of Canadian director Kyle Edward Ball.

Ball shot Skinamarink in his childhood home on a $15,000 budget. The writer/director planted his roots by uploading scary short films on his YouTube channel, called Bitesized Nightmares. Skinamarink was expanded upon from Heck, a 30-minute short film that served as proof of concept for the feature. Since then, Skinamarink premiered at the 26th Fantasia Film Festival in July 2022 and benefited from viral marketing after word-of-mouth spread across TikTok, Twitter, and other social media. The film received a limited theatrical run in mid-January 2023, smashing 1 million at the box office. Since then it’s earned well over 100 times its budget in what’s considered a huge victory for indie filmmaking.

So, Why is Skinamarink So Polarizing?

Skinamarink’s untraditional narrative certainly isn’t for everyone. Despite the buzz, it’s the type of horror film that exists on the love-it-or-hate-it spectrum. The majority of the film expects the viewer to fill in the blanks and if you can’t buy into its premise, then it’s a dud on arrival.

Skinamarink is assigned a 3.1 out of 5 rating on Letterboxd, a 71% Tomatometer and 43% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. But aren’t these the best types of scores to argue with your friends?

If you couldn’t catch Skinamarink in theaters, though, watching it at home—lights off, sound turned on, and a healthy distance from the bedroom—is a just as effective setting. Just bring a blanket to shield yourself from the scary bits.

Attack of the Fanboy’s Game of the Year 2022 https://attackofthefanboy.com/articles/attack-of-the-fanboys-game-of-the-year-2022/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/articles/attack-of-the-fanboys-game-of-the-year-2022/#respond Fri, 23 Dec 2022 18:01:00 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=883277 Delays are a tough pill to swallow, and in 2022, gamers were certainly force-fed their medicine. For context, we lost out on Starfield, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Forspoken, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Hogwarts Legacy, and The Day Before, just to name a few. And for that reason, gaming was considered quiet.

Sure, we endured longer-than-usual dry spells, but you know what? The quality of the games that did release was immeasurable. As guardians we defeated the Witch Queen, as gods we concluded an epic, expansive Norse tale. We warped to the past catching ancient pocket monsters, reached mach speed as the Blue Blur, and developed an addiction to a new superhero card game. C’mon, we even worshipped a cultist lamb and survived a cyberpunk city as the most adorable orange cat in media.

But the one land that Attack of the Fanboy collectively traveled far and between was…

AOTF’s Game of the Year 2022 Winner: Elden Ring

Elden-Ring

Diehard “Souls” fans were practically foaming at the mouth for the first truly open-world FromSoftware experience. But when Elden Ring finally launched in February, no one expected it to become the topic of conversation outside of its own “Souls” circle.

To think that such a brutal, unforgiving game could top Call of Duty sales is, well, unthinkable. But so it did. For the first time in FromSoftware’s magnificent catalog, the Souls formula reached mainstream status on a level that director and developer legend Hidetaka Miyazaki couldn’t even comprehend. Wherever you consumed media — TikTok, YouTube, Twitter, Reddit — chances are your feed was filled with Elden Ring content. Hell, the conversation surrounding discoveries was nearly as fun as the gameplay.

More important, though, is that Elden Ring lived up in every way. From getting trolled by a teleporter trap to finally stomping the ever-living daylights out of Malenia, everyone’s got a unique Elden Ring story to share. Beyond setting the gold standard for game design that will no doubt influence open-world games across the next decade, the eternal Elden Ring stories that continue to spread from gamer to gamer are truly something special.

To no one’s surprise, Elden Ring is Attack of the Fanboy’s Game of the Year in 2022. Until next year, we’ll see you in the Colosseum.

Gotham Knights: How to Activate the Mechanism in the Powers Club https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-how-to-activate-the-mechanism-in-the-powers-club/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-how-to-activate-the-mechanism-in-the-powers-club/#respond Fri, 21 Oct 2022 04:05:56 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=864409 Secrets continue to unravel in Gotham Knights, but in order to progress through the story, players must solve some challenging puzzles. While some puzzles are fairly straightforward, other puzzles like locating the bugs in the Iceberg Lounge require more thinking in Gotham Knights. One such challenge requires you to activate the mechanism in the Powers Club. If you don’t know how to follow the wires, you may end up running around in circles. If you didn’t notice the broken lamp on one of the columns, this is your end goal, aka what needs activating.

Gotham Knights: Where do the Wires Lead in the Powers Club?

After dispatching the first two security guards in the Powers Club, scan the floor for a blood trail. Scan the floor once more and you’ll notice a Hidden Mechanism, which will reveal two sets of wires that reach into the next room. The objects that require activating are a bust sculpture and a large book, which are separated on each side of the next room.  Upon entering the next area, dispatch all of the security guards. You can do so quietly or violently; it doesn’t make a difference. Once the security guards are dealt with, take in your surroundings. You’ll notice that this area is divided into two sections. For the purpose of this guide, we’ll call one area the Right Section and the other area the Left Section.

Where to Find the Large Book

The Large Book is found within the Right Section of the room. More specifically, the Large Book is in the corner where the stairs lead upstairs into the hallway. You may recognize this corner if you silently dispatched a security guard. While downstairs, scan your AR a couple times and you should see the book highlighted in another color. Interact with the Large Book and proceed to the Left Section.

Where to Find the Bust Sculpture

The Bust Scultpture is found within the Left Section of the room. More specifically, you’ll find it near the piano. Scan around until you’ve found it. Then, interact with the bust sculpture.  Note: Before leaving this room, check out the secret attack found above the piano. You can grapple to the attic to find a chest containing crafting resources, a voice recording, and a letter addressed to a familiar family member… After interacting with both objects, return to the original area where you took down the two security guards. Now you can active the dead lamp on the wall. Once activated, the floor will open to reveal a spiral staircase that leads toward another challenging puzzle: the Owl Pieces puzzle, where you must organize sculptures into the correct position. Gotham Knights is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Gotham Knights: Premeditated Crimes and How To Stop Them https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-premeditated-crimes-and-how-to-stop-them/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-premeditated-crimes-and-how-to-stop-them/#respond Fri, 21 Oct 2022 03:49:52 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=864418 Sometimes it feels like Gotham Knights presents a laundry list of tasks to complete. There are numerous challenges—from Momentum Abilities to Contacts to crafting gear—many of which require you to check off similar objectives: Premeditated Crimes. But what are Premeditated Crimes and why aren’t they appearing on my map? Here’s how to stop Premeditated Crimes in Gotham Knights.

Everything You Need to Know About Premeditated Crimes

What Are Premeditated Crimes in Gotham Knights?

Premeditated Crimes are open-world activities in Gotham Knights that require you to thwart the devious plans of criminals. Now that the Bats is dead, numerous Factions of Gotham City (no spoilers!) are more confident than ever and it’s up to you to prevent crime before it gets out of hand. Premeditated Crimes are listed under Crime activities in the Database where you must prevent various types of heists. Some heists include preventing bank robberies, car jackings, and even daring car chases on your Batcycle. Players can identify Premeditated Heists by these two symbols: The upside-down triangle with an exclamation point running through, or the upside-down triangle with a question mark. Premeditated Heists can sometimes be found randomly by scanning the open world with your AR.

How to Unlock More Premeditated Crimes

Players can unlock Premeditated Heists in Gotham Knights by collecting Clues around the city. Clues are obtained by stopping basic Crimes, which are denoted by the white Triangle when you scan the open-world. To find Crimes, ride around Gotham and continuously scan around for criminals — they’re practically everywhere. In order to collect Clues, you must interrogate informants or, simply, beat the baddies up. You can also pick up Clues by defeating criminals during a Premeditated Crime. If you complete a bunch in batch, you’re bound to unlock more when you return to the Belfry. After finding enough clues, you must return to the Belfry to unlock more Premeditated Crimes. Don’t expect them to just instantly appear on the map after discovering clues — they won’t. You’ll have to return to the Belfry and restart a new patrol for them to appear in the open-world.

Why Do Premeditated Crimes Matter in Gotham Knights?

Premeditated Crimes are one of the most prevalent objectives needed to complete specific Challenges, such as:

  • Knighthood Challenges
  • Momentum Ability Challenges
  • Contact Challenges.

Knighthood Challenges are especially important to pick away at. Completing these challenges will unlock your Fourth Skill Tree and grant you the ability to fly around Gotham City. You’ll need to check off 10 Premeditated Challenges per character, so switch heroes often and definitely don’t want to save these for the end. Each hero will also have a Momentum Ability Challenge to complete that requires checking off Premeditated Challenges. Momentum Abilities are special moves designed for your hero and they’re especially useful for defeating heavy enemies like the Freaks Bulldozer. At some point you will discover Contact challenges. Some of the objectives require you to complete a set amount of Premeditated Crimes. You’ll earn more rewards for completing these challenges, so don’t avoid them either. Those are just some of the many reasons to complete Premeditated Challenges in Gotham Knights. Although they may feel monotonous at times, it’s well worth the effort to gradually chip away at them across your playthrough. You won’t regret it. Gotham Knights is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Gotham Knights: Can You Target Enemies With Lock-On? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-can-you-target-enemies-with-lock-on/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-can-you-target-enemies-with-lock-on/#respond Fri, 21 Oct 2022 03:39:58 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=864398 In Gotham Knights, players will constantly find themselves embroiled in combat. Whether you’re stopping Premeditated Crimes, downing and interrogating baddies for clues, or you botched a stealth sequence, it’s easy to be consumed by enemies. With so much chaos happening around you, this begs the question: can you lock-on to enemies in Gotham Knights?

Is it Possible to Target or Lock-on to Enemies in Gotham Knights?

No, it is not possible to lock-on to or target enemies in Gotham Knights. Nor is Lock-on a menu setting that can be toggled on and off, so allow us to save you the trouble of scouring through the menu settings. Instead, your combat inputs automatically track toward the closest enemy. As you move the left and right analog sticks, the game will automatically lock-on to enemies for you. Pummel away from there. As a result, you should always be aware of your surroundings during combat. You’ll need additional attention toward the periphery — even if you’re nailing a combo — because an enemy like the Freaks Bulldozer can, and will, attack you from an odd angle. If you’re not careful you can take massive amounts of damage, so be ready to evade at all times. Admittedly, this automatic lock-on system can feel cumbersome, so if the controls feel clunky, you’re not alone. For example, it’s possible that your hero may attack an enemy that you hadn’t intended to hit. Sometimes the automatic lock-on system can also fail if two enemies are within close proximity. As noted in our Gotham Knights review, movement in general is a mixed bag. For the most part this system works, but the automatic lock-on is not a perfect mechanic in Gotham Knights, so try to keep away from tight corners where the camera is most difficult to adjust.  Players who are still riding the high off Elden Ring may find the automatic lock-on system in Gotham Knights more difficult to adjust, but with time and patience you’ll synergize combos with Momentum Abilities to deal massive amounts of damage. Though WB Montreal’s Gotham Knights does not reside in the Arkham universe, there are still plenty of Easter Eggs scattered across the open world.  Gotham Knights is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Every Hero’s Skill Tree and Builds in Gotham Knights

Every hero begins with three Skill Trees to build out in Gotham Knights. You will gain 1 AP for every level gained, and you’ll spend AP on new abilities. Eventually players will earn a fourth skill tree—the Knighthood Skill Tree—which requires completing 10 Premeditated Crimes per character. It’s a grind, but unlocking Knighthood includes perks that you won’t want to miss out on. Even better, leveling transfers across every character in Gotham Knights. If you prioritize Batgirl for a large portion of the game, you will still be able to switch and build out Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood on the fly.

Nightwing’s Skill Trees

gotham-knights-nightwing-skill-tree Playing as Nightwing is all about making use of his mobility and one of the best things about Nightwing is his ability to leap large distances toward criminals. On his own, Nightwing can evade swings easily, which is enhanced by the Evade Chain ability that knocks all enemies down when you nail Perfect Evades. As a team, however, Nightwing’s Family Ties ability boosts his overall defense while enhancing his team member’s strongest attributes. Raptor Skill Tree:

  • Perfect Evade: Nightwing performs a perfectly-timed evade that generates Momentum and allows for a Perfect Attack follow-up.

  • Health Bolstered Defense: When Nightwing’s health is at least +70%, he gets a +5% Defense bonus scaling up to +20% at full health.

  • Nest Buffs+: Nest damage is increased by 150%, and the healing effect is increased by 100%.

Robin’s Skill Trees

gotham-knights-robin-skill-tree Robin’s kit is centered around stealth and speed. With his decoy ability, Robin can handle himself in a fight against many enemies. If you choose the stealth approach with Robin, then the Shadow Skill Tree should be prioritized. Two of the most helpful abilities—across all characters—appear in this skill tree. The Light Footed ability allows you to move around undetected better than any character, while the Turnabout Takedown ability allows you to perform a Silent or Ambush Takedown on large enemies. Slugger:

  • Perfect Evade: Robin performs a perfectly-timed evade that generates Momentum and allows for a Perfect Attack follow-up.
  • Critical Expertise: Increases Robin’s Critical damage by 20%.

Batgirl’s Skill Trees

gotham-knights-batgirl-skill-tree Batgirl perhaps has one of the most well-rounded kits out of all the heroes in Gotham Knights. With the Health Packs+ ability, Batgirl serves as the healer of the group and she can even revive herself with the Second Wind abilities. Batgirl can also handle herself just fine with many abilities suited against heavy enemies, like the Elite Beatdown perk. During missions, though, Batgirl’s skill trees absolutely own with stealth—her Remote Hacking abilities allow you to disable cameras and turrets, so you won’t need to sneak your way around the room toward the control panel. • Drone Ambush Blast: Once per summon, Batgirl’s drone unleashes a large burst of damage on all nearby enemies.

Red Hood’s Skill Trees

gotham-knights-red-hood-skill-tree Red Hood’s skill trees make him the Tank of Gotham Knights. He can grab large enemies with the Large Grab ability and can grab enemies uninterrupted with the Iron Grip ability. In our experience, it’s practically useless to even use the grab mechanic on any other character since you’re always at risk of taking damage. Most of his abilities are centered around range. Although his pistols are no doubt deadly, we suggest prioritizing the Brawler skill tree if you’re playing single-player and want to focus on melee. Marksman:

  • Perfect Evade: Red Hood performs a perfectly-timed evade that generates Momentum and allows for a Perfect Attack follow-up.
  • Critical Expertise: Increases Red Hood’s Critical damage by 20%.

  • Quickfire Expert: The Critical chance and Critical damage of Red Hood’s Ranged Attack combo is increased by 15%.

Brawler:

  • Human Bomb: When Red Hood throws an enemy, he attaches a concussion mine to them that explodes when shot. Press Triangle / Y to shoot the mine.
  • Large Grab: Red Hood can perform grab moves on large enemies.
  • Extended Grab Window: Enemies can now be grabbed at 50% health or less.
  • Human Bomb Enhanced: Increases damage and radius of the concussion mine explosion.
  • Grip Expertise: Increases Red Hood’s damage when performing a grab move by 10%.
  • Iron Grip: Grabbing an enemy prevents Red Hood from being interrupted by most attacks.
  • Human Bomb Multiplied: Detonating the concussion mine deploys 6 additional concussion proximity mines on the ground.

Gotham Knights: What is the Biodecryption Key Solution? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-what-is-the-biodecryption-key-solution/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-what-is-the-biodecryption-key-solution/#respond Fri, 21 Oct 2022 02:59:50 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=864404 At this point in Gotham Knights you may have had enough of Dr. Langstrom. You’ve already scratched your head over the Langstrom Passcode solution and escaped from the GCPD, and now you’re forced to deal with the dead. This time, however, there are so many more objects to mull over. Allow us to be the detectives for you. Here’s the Biodecryption key solution in Gotham Knights.

How to Solve the ‘Find the Biodecryption Key’ Puzzle in Gotham Knights

The correct objects to connect together are the Blood Vial with the Blood Glucometer. Since the glucometer measures and monitors the level of glucose, it adds up that the Blood Vial is the only proper substance. The rest of the items are just red herrings. To connect the Blood Sample to the Blood Glucometer, hover over one of the objects and press the Mark button. Then, drag your cursor over to the other object and press the Mark button again. Once connected, press Solve to complete the ‘Find the Biodecryption Key’ Puzzle. If players attempt to connect other objects together, the solution will fail and they will not be able to proceed from the puzzle. Although some objects technically do connect with one another, they do not fit within the context of the Biodecryption puzzle. So, ignore these combinations entirely. For reference, the full list of items is as follows:

  • Blood Vial
  • Blood Glucometer
  • Urine Sample
  • Langstrom’s Phone
  • MMO Key Fob
  • Pulse Oximeter
  • Reading Glasses
  • Wallet
  • Medical Bracelet
  • Bloody Clothes
  • Soft Tissue Sample

Don’t be fooled by the Urine Sample, either. It’s the long tube resting on the tray, and although Dr. Langstrom’s diet lacks hydration, you should ignore this object. The correct object to pair with the Blood Glucometer is the Blood Sample, which resides within the vial holder. Wondering what’s next? Eventually you will be able to fast travel, and unlock multiplayer in Gotham Knights. Gotham Knights is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Gotham Knights: What is Langstrom’s Passcode? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-what-is-langstroms-passcode/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-what-is-langstroms-passcode/#respond Fri, 21 Oct 2022 02:39:45 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=864370 Gotham Knights is filled with complex puzzles and players encounter the first challenge during the tutorial in Langstrom’s lab. This puzzle requires some detective skills where players must match the correct items together. If you’re scratching your head wondering what Langstrom’s Passcode is in Gotham Knights, here’s how to solve it.

Gotham Knights: How to Open Langstrom’s Hidden Room

In short, Langstrom’s passcode is 127, as found on the Sticky Note. Players must connect the Sticky Note to the Microwave in order to solve this puzzle. To do this, hover over the Sticky Note and press the Mark button. Then, drag the cursor to the Microwave and mark this object. After that, press the Solve button. Connecting these two items together will solve the puzzle. In total there are six items to sleuth through with various passcodes: the Thermostat, Gray Ghost poster, Calendar, Tablet, Sticky Note, and Microwave. Despite some items seemingly pairing with one another — the Calendar to the Tablet, the Grey Ghost poster to the Thermostat — only one combination works: the Sticky Note to the Microwave. If players attempt to connect the Grey Ghost/Thermostat or the Calendar/Tablet, the player will receive an error. Although the combinations are technically correct, these passcodes were designed to throw you off the trail. So, ignore these combinations entirely. For reference, the full list of items and their passcodes are as follows:

  • Sticky Note – 127
  • Calendar – 2021
  • Grey Ghost poster – 041192
  • Microwave
  • Tablet
  • Thermostat

So, remember to combine the Sticky Note with the Microwave and you’ll have solved Langstrom’s Passcode in Gotham Knights, which is 127. After solving this puzzle, a secret door will open and you can enter Langstrom’s Hidden Room to continue the tutorial. Expect to solve many other puzzles in Gotham Knights, like the Biodecryption Key puzzle. Since you’re still early in the game, you want to brush up on how to craft gear and how to solve Premeditated Crimes in Gotham Knights. Gotham Knights is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Gotham Knights: How to Disable the Cameras Without Being Detected in the GCPD Headquarters https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-how-to-disable-the-cameras-without-being-detected-in-the-gcpd-headquarters/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-how-to-disable-the-cameras-without-being-detected-in-the-gcpd-headquarters/#respond Fri, 21 Oct 2022 02:29:48 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=864401 One of the first stealth sequences players encounter in Gotham Knights occurs in the GCPD Headquarters. As players search for Dr. Langstrom, they’ll come against a room full of cameras and police offers who intend to shoot on sight. It’s the first test of many, and with all that surveillance you may be confused about the best route to navigate this area unexposed, so here’s how to disable the cameras without being Detected in the GCPD headquarters in Gotham Knights.

Gotham Knights: How to Reach the Other Side of the Bullpen

In order to turn off the cameras, there is a panel hidden near the exit that you must interact with. This panel will turn off all of the cameras, so you don’t need to search for more than one. Keep in mind there are six cameras and three police officers in total scattered across the headquarters. You’ll need to remain totally unseen in order to receive the bonus.  Quickly scan the room using your AR ability (down on the D-Pad) and you’ll notice a small blue icon in the far corner of the room, located near the objective marker (the white diamond). This is where you’re headed. gotham-knights-disable-security-cameras-1-1 To avoid detection, do not go downstairs. Instead, look toward the railing to your left. Perch on top of the railing and hop onto the platform across from you. This platform is flush with the wall. Hop across the platforms until you reach the next railing. You should be on the other side of the room. gotham-knights-disable-security-cameras-4 Look toward the exit. You can grapple toward the exit from where you are perched. Grapple toward the exit but make sure to do so when the cops are facing the other direction. Once you’ve made it, mantle into the room. gotham-knights-disable-security-cameras-1 You won’t be able to exit just yet; the door is locked. Run down the stairs and you’ll find the panel. Interact with the panel to disable all of the cameras in the GCPD Headquarters.

Where is the Key to Open the Exit?

With all of the cameras off, you can easily dispatch the three police officers. Make sure to Silent Takedown each of them so as not to raise suspicion. If you mess up here and are spotted, just wipe and restart the sequence from the beginning. gotham-knights-disable-security-cameras-3 With the three officers down, you’ll find the exit key on the center desk facing the lobby entrance. Before you exit, you can read the files on Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Red Hood — they’re scattered throughout the room.  Don’t forget to open the container for some crafting resources. The container is located in the upstairs hallways where you first entered the area. The fun doesn’t stop there. Pretty soon you’ll experience one of the first puzzles in the game. If you’re not satisfied with your hero, you can switch characters in Gotham Knights at any time. Check out our Gotham Knights Tier List to learn about which of the Bat Kids may be your best fit. Gotham Knights is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox One X|S, and PC.

Gotham Knights Performance: Does it Run at 60 FPS? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-performance-does-it-run-at-60-fps/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/gotham-knights-performance-does-it-run-at-60-fps/#respond Thu, 20 Oct 2022 11:05:56 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=864351 Most games of the current generation can optimize 60 FPS from Performance Mode on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but what about Gotham Knights? Practically an expectation at this point, fans are likely wondering if Gotham Knights offers that same silky smooth experience. Here’s what we know about Gotham Knight’s console performance, and whether or not it runs at 60 FPS.

Does Gotham Knights Perform at 60 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S?

No, Gotham Knights does not run at 60 FPS on the latest consoles. Instead, the new Batman game from WB Montreal is locked to 30 FPS. This is likely disappointing to many fans awaiting to play the game for themselves, who were looking forward to push their PS5 or Xbox Series X to the limits. In a tweet posted by Wario64, Fleur Marty, executive producer of WB Game Montreal, confirmed that Gotham Knights does not run at 60 FPS. In a Discord discussion, Fleur referenced the untethered co-op experience as one of the many features that prevented the studio from providing a Performance Mode toggle on consoles.

We also confirm in our Gotham Knights review that the game runs at 30 FPS with some issues that occur during large combat sequences. Players may also experience the occasional hitch while riding the Batcycle, the main mode of transportation, through Gotham City. As a result, we can assume that patch fixes will resolve some of these issues, but we don’t expect a fully functional Performance Mode at 60 FPS to arrive in Gotham Knights on consoles any time soon.  Despite the occasional frame dip, players hoping to experience Gotham Knights in 60 FPS should know that the game still performs well in its current state. Even at 30 FPS, you’ll still beat up Gotham’s nastiest criminals without a major hindrance to the performance. The frame rate, in general, won’t limit your control inputs. While most games offer Resolution Mode or Performance Mode as an option, the topic of better graphics at lower frames vs. weaker resolution at higher frames remains an ongoing debate in the gaming community. Some gamers prefer one over the other while some don’t even notice a difference in frame rate. The “best” possible setting also depends on the type of game — FPS, Third-Person Open-World, etc. — when choosing between these visual settings.  Gotham Knights is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Tower of Fantasy: PC Google Login Not Working on iOS? Here’s How to Fix https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/tower-of-fantasy-pc-google-login-not-working-on-ios-heres-how-to-fix/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/tower-of-fantasy-pc-google-login-not-working-on-ios-heres-how-to-fix/#respond Wed, 17 Aug 2022 17:10:21 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=851006 Players that intend to play Tower of Fantasy across PC and iOS devices face a frustrating issue: Registered Tower of Fantasy PC Google login is not working on iOS. More specifically, GMail does not appear compatible with iPhone or iPad devices since it is missing from the registration options. If you signed up for Tower of Fantasy on PC but want to log in on iOS, there is still a workaround. First, you must bind your current account to an iOS-compatible option. Then, you must pretend to create a new Tower of Fantasy account on iOS. Sounds convoluted, right? Here’s how to log in with your Tower of Fantasy Google Account on iPhone and iPad so that you can level up quickly while on the go.

Tower of Fantasy: How to Login With Your Google Account on iOS, iPhone, iPad

If you registered your Tower of Fantasy with a Google Account (most likely on PC), don’t worry, you can still crossplay on iOS/iPhone/iPad with the same game account. This issue is specific to players that created an account on PC but are experiencing login issues on iOS. While confusing at first, these are the required steps:

  • On PC, bind your Tower of Fantasy Google Account with an iOS-compatible account.
  • On iOS, pretend to register a new account using the iOS-compatible account that you performed in Step One.

How to Bind Accounts in Tower of Fantasy

Here’s how to bind accounts in Tower of Fantasy on PC.

  • Launch Tower of Fantasy on PC.
  • Assuming you are logged in, select Settings.
  • Within Settings, select Compliance.
  • Then select Bind Account.
  • Choose a compatible iOS (Apple/Twitter/etc.) account to bind and enter your credentials.

For this demonstration, we recommend choosing your Apple ID since you intend to link your Tower of Fantasy Google account with an Apple device (iPhone/iPad). But, selecting an alternative option such as an existing Twitter account also works. Once you have linked your Tower of Fantasy Google (GMail) account with a compatible iOS account, you may leave the PC launcher.

How to Login to Tower of Fantasy on iOS With a Google Account

After completing Step One, exit the PC launcher of Tower of Fantasy and open the game on your preferred iOS device. This next process forces you to pretend as if you are creating a new game. But don’t worry, you aren’t actually going to create a new account. Reason being, there is no “Login with” option. Instead, you are forced to choose your linked account from the “Register with” section.  Although it will initially appear as if you are creating a new game from scratch, just hang with us. By pretending to create a new game, Tower of Fantasy will eventually recognize your PC account and you will have zero issues logging in. Follow along with these steps:

  • Below the “Register with” section, choose the account option that you bound your PC Google account with during Step One.
  • Enter your login credentials
  • Attempt to launch the game
  • The beginning cutscene will play. Skip the cutscene or allow it to play out.

tower-of-fantasy-google-ios-login-1 Choose the Female or Male Wanderer. tower-of-fantasy-google-ios-login-2 An error message reading “Wanderer creation limit reached” will appear. Press OK and attempt to create a new character again. tower-of-fantasy-google-ios-login-3

  • A second, final error message reading “Connection timed out” will appear. Allow the game to time out, which will spit you back to the login screen.
  • Back on the login screen, attempt to enter the game. Now, you will be able to join your server as normal!

And that’s all there is to it. Once you’ve forced this new-game-error to occur, attempting to log in will result in success. Instead of experiencing the beginning cutscene, the game will recognize your Tower of Fantasy PC Google login registered account and allow you to jump into the game where you’ve left off. Now, you can continue your quest to unlock all outfits in Tower of Fantasy on your iOS tablet or phone. Have fun, Wanderer! Tower of Fantasy is available on PC, iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.
