You can try to look at places like Amazon, TCGplayer, or eBay for some good deals on individual Pokémon cards from these old sets. If you want sealed packs or entire Booster Boxes, not only will that cost you hundreds if not thousands of dollars, but you will also need to do plenty of research into individual sellers or auction platforms. 

Base Set is obviously the gold standard here, though you might have better luck going for something like X and Y Evolutions, which is still very expensive. 

Pokémon KOTOBUKIYA ArtFX Figures

KOTOBUKIYA is known for crafting incredibly high-quality figures and has been partnered with Pokémon for years. You can find KOTOBUKIYA figures for most of the main protagonists from different Pokémon games out in the wild for order, up through Scarlet and Violet. Some, like Red and Blue, are harder to find now, but others, such as Rosa and Brendan are readily available. 

Classic Pokémon Game Guidebooks

Much like with old cards, if you want to get something nostalgic and fun for fans of older Pokémon games, you can try to find some classic guidebooks. Plenty of these guides aren’t even that expensive, depending on what condition you want to find them in—or how old the game in question is. 

For games post Diamond and Pearl you can usually find guides of various types on Amazon and other online booksellers. Anything from the GameBoy era, such as Gold and Silver, will likely only be seen on eBay and secondhand shops for a much higher price.

Because I am a huge Pokémon fan, I spend way too much time looking at official and fan-made merchandise—much to the chagrin of my wallet. As a result, this list of top Pokémon gifts was put together by digging around my usual go-to spots like Etsy and the official Pokémon Center and dipping into the murky waters of Amazon’s Pokémon offerings. 

My priority when compiling this list was ensuring every product chosen had good reviews, was sold by an official or reputable marketplace and could appeal to multiple demographics, regardless of the category it is listed under. In my opinion, every product in our best Pokémon product guide is at least worth a look for Pokémon fans looking for gift options.

When looking for great Pokémon gifts, my recommendation is official marketplaces like the Pokémon Center or Pokémon’s official Amazon shop. These only list products that are licensed by The Pokémon Company. 

Etsy is an excellent place to browse if you want a wider selection of unofficial products where you can easily check reviews and quality. I have found some of my favorite items while browsing Pokémon tags on Etsy. But I don’t recommend spending too much time on eBay or other reselling websites unless you know what you are looking for.

What do you get someone who collects Pokémon cards?

If someone is heavily invested in collecting Pokémon TCG products, either to use them in decks or to put in a binder, you have a few options for what to get them as a gift. 

If you aren’t sure what they are collecting or if they have a specific deck they are trying to build, you can opt for an Elite Trainer Box for a recent set to ensure they get a nice handful of packs and other goodies. You can also try to buy individual singles or cards that have already been pulled, for cards they are interested in or that feature their favorite Pokémon—my friends have given me plenty of Golurk cards as gifts in the past.

If you want to purchase singles, your best bet is TCGplayer since you can browse hundreds of cards and sellers quickly with multiple different filters available to weed out options you aren’t interested in.

Developed by MIXI, Asym Altered Axis is an ambitious PC title that once again combines diverse elements to produce a fresh new experience. The polished package seamlessly blends base building, stealth, shooting, and RTS gameplay to entertain six players. There’s something new to see in each match.

In the beginning, one player creates a base. It need not be overly complex. It may comprise a few towers and traps, dropped into place using an intuitive interface. The various structures contain cells, a precious resource everyone wants.

Once the base is up and running, a team of Infiltrators gets to work. Their goal is to steal the nexus, which requires them to find caches and leave the area without getting killed. Shadows cloak much of their activity, just the way they like it.

The player who created the base, known as the Protector, isn’t finished. Their new job is to light up the landscape, which they do by floating over the arena and unleashing dazzling projectiles. If they find those daring Infiltrators, they can eliminate them and gain the resources necessary to further enhance the base. But the Infiltrators aren’t defenseless; they’ll counter with attacks that temporarily put the Protector out of commission and allow the bold heist to resume.

When players get together online to play a game, they might all have different ideas about the sort of experience they want. Asym Altered Axis stops any debate before it starts. It caters to players with diverse interests, providing limitless variety to keep them coming back for more.

For many years now, we’ve seen multiplayer games start to embrace the functionality of “cross-platform” multiplayer. This allows players on different platforms to play the same game with each other. In previous generations, online infrastructure between consoles was too different to facilitate connectivity between PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Nowadays, however, a surprisingly large number of titles, both big and small, let people play together regardless of their designated platform.

The benefits of cross-platform multiplayer should be clear to anyone: you don’t need to worry about buying the correct console to play with or against your friends. This is especially important to men, who, in a recent survey conducted by ExpressVPN, stated they play games online to stay in touch with friends. In the past, console hardware was so fundamentally different from each other that it made some sense why Xbox couldn’t connect with a PS2. In modern times, however, game development has become more standardized and online infrastructure more cross-compatible than locking things to a specific platform, which simply seems antiquated. Smaller indie teams might not be able to implement cross-platform, but major triple-A releases should have enough resources to include the feature as standard.

What started the trend of embracing cross-platform play? It’s hard to point to one specific game, but the highest-profile release to implement the feature was 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty franchise has been one of the largest properties in gaming for more than a decade now, and it famously had exclusivity deals for multiplayer content on both Xbox 360 and PS4 many moons ago. As calls for cross-platform compatibility started to get louder, Activision Blizzard finally listened to fans and implemented it in the Modern Warfare reboot. This helped combine the massive audience into one online pool and gave players competition that wouldn’t dwindle due to a lack of interest on a particular platform.

Another huge push came with Fortnite. Epic Games was eager to embrace cross-platform functionality and implemented it in Fortnite for PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in 2018. Still, the PS4 was famously left out of the equation due to some short-sighted decisions from Sony. Eventually, Sony relented, and Epic’s massive battle royale title became the first game to feature cross-platform functionality across all major platforms (and even mobile). Other games were quick to follow, including Minecraft, and it seemed the gears were in motion for this huge shift.

Since 2019, games such as Destiny 2, Among Us, Borderlands 3, Dirt 5, Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, and Tetris Effect Connected embrace cross-platform play. Even fighting games have joined in, with Mortal Kombat 11 featuring the functionality for Xbox and PlayStation players and Street Fighter 6 putting PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S players against each other. It’s still not a given that new titles will feature cross-platform multiplayer, but it is more common now than it has ever been in the past.

We’re long past the days of Microsoft trying to force Xbox functionality onto Windows with “Games for Windows Live” and only supporting a couple of cross-platform games. We’re also beyond limited cross-platform exclusivity, as seen in Street Fighter V. Gaming has become so much bigger and spread across so many different platforms that publishers have been practically forced to implement the feature, or their games will look outdated.

As you step out into the world and are thrust right into the action, UNDECEMBER offers players a choice of multiple weapons to get them started. While you might assume you can only grab one, players will be surprised to see that they aren’t restricted in how they progress through the tutorial. If you just cannot deal with ranged attacks, go with the sword and get up close and personal with some enemies. There are no prerequisites for wielding any weapon. Much like weapons, skill points also function differently in UNDECEMBER. The skill trees are diverse but have some general overlap in terms of increasing base stats. While it might look daunting, the system feels great and rewards you for maxing out all of the skill trees rather than opting into one. It’s wise to level up each skill, even if your specific playstyle has you favoring one skill over the other. When it comes to leveling up, the intriguing Zodiac system gives you granular control over what your character can do. Across a grid of constellations, players will be given the choice of which skills they want to learn and where they want to spend stat points. All characters will have three basic stats they can upgrade: Strength, Intelligence, and Dexterity. Each level-up awards you points to put into those stats.  If ranged combat is your forte, a skill tree dedicated to accuracy and evasiveness will let you hone your tactics on the battlefield. If you enjoy brute strength, a different tree with skills for attack strength and speed will give you the edge against your foes. The best part is that UNDECEMBER lets you undo and reset your stats at will.  Using abilities, attacks, or techniques in UNDECEMBER uses the Rune system. There’s no set order for skills in this game, so when you find something, it’s yours. Though some abilities require specific weapons, it feels fresh and exciting to find and use techniques in no specific order.  Each Rune has six sides and can be situated on the skill grid however the player sees fit. On one or more of each Rune’s sides will be a colored bar that can be connected to colored gems. These gems offer enhancements to attack output, speed, or magical ability. Mixing and matching gems can happen across multiple Runes simultaneously, allowing you to buff all of your attacks with careful placement. The story and plot of the game are similarly exciting. LINE Games has stated there will be a total of 10 unique acts, all covering different regions in the world and different storyline trees. Currently, there are a few acts, and they inspire tons of confidence moving forward with the game. Each area of the region makes us more excited to explore the next.  We appreciate UNDECEMBER being fully voice-acted and having exciting cutscenes to help build out characters. These characters have seen better days, but all of them remain hopeful that you can lead them to the light at the end of the tunnel. In the grim world of UNDECEMBER, players will inhabit the role of rune hunters whose goal is to stop the resurrection of the 13th Being Evil God Serpens and restore order to the world.

UNDECEMBER plays similarly to other ARPG classics, but with a unique twist in class composition. You won’t be rigidly stuck to a single class and can grow your character by combining various different runes and equipment pieces together. This will let players experience UNDECEMBER not only at their own pace but with plenty of diversity in character structure.
