If you’re looking to deck out your appearance and truly stand out, here are the known clothing store locations in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)!

Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) Clothing Store Locations

There are only two Clothing Stores in Baldur’s Gate 3:

  • Facemaker’s Boutique
  • Carm’s Garm
Baldurs-Gate-3-Clothing-Store-Locations

Both locations can only be accessed during Act 3. The Facemaker’s Boutique is in the Lower City part of Baldur’s Gate, and Carm’s Garm is in Rivington.

Facemaker’s Boutique BG3 Clothing Store Location

You’ll find the Facemaker’s Boutique clothing store in the north easternmost portion of the Lower City (Baldur’s Gate) map at coordinates X: -163, Y: -127.

To help you easily find where the Facemaker’s Boutique is in BG3, look above The Glitter Gala (in map view) and in front of the Baldur’s Gate Waypoint, which will be located right from the House of Grief and directly below the map’s north entrance.

Carm’s Garm BG3 Clothing Store Location

The other store is Carm’s Garm. It’s located in Rivington right before you enter Baldur’s Gate, near the Wyrm’s Crossing waypoint at Coordinates X: 16, Y: 134.

Baldurs-Gate-3-BG3-Clothing-Store-Locations-Carms-Garm-Rivington

You can find Carm’s Garm on the north end of Rivington. Right before the entrance into Baldur’s Gate in Wyrm’s Crossing, turn right and you’ll walk right into Carm’s Garm. It’s right across from Danthelon’s Dancing Axe.

When Can You Find These Clothing Stores in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Sadly, the Facemaker’s Boutique and Carm’s Garm Clothing Stores are only found in Act 3. To our knowledge, there isn’t a Clothing Store in Act 1 or 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3, so your fashion game is going to have to wait. Alternatively, you can get creative with what you pick up in those Acts, which we definitely recommend!

Facemaker’s Boutique and Carm’s Garm will feature exclusive sets of clothing, hats, and undergarments. Examples like the Elegant Robe and the Angelic Scion Outfit can be purchased relatively cheap. The Elegant Robe is currently available for 353 Gold Pieces, while the Angelic Scion Outfit will be available for 284.

  • Baldurs-Gate-3-Carms-Garm
  • Baldurs-Gate-3-Clothing-Store

There are also many other unique and cool-looking pieces of gear to acquire in Facemaker’s Boutique and Carm’s Garm, so shop around and grab what catches your eye. While the gear in these shops isn’t likely to replace your armor, you will look pretty suave when you return to camp. I always enjoy this option in RPGs, often appreciating the chance to craft or customize my gear to look my best.

The store will also sell a wide array of rare dyes, which you can then use to change the color palette of both armor and clothing. You can check out how to use dyes to change the look of your gear in the game in our How to Dye and Customize Armor in Baldur’s Gate 3 guide.

I particularly like looking fancy in game, so I always check the stores. In addition, the game allows you to change the look of your character by alternating between the combat equipment and the camp clothes without affecting your stats. It’s a good way to make your characters look fresh and change what you’re staring at, especially if you’ve been wearing the same armor forever. Also, the clothing stores sell dye, which you can use to change the color of your armor and clothes.

Where Do You Get Outfits in BG3?

The clothing stores are the only two stores where players can buy new clothes in the game. However, you don’t get to wait until you reach Act 3 to change your character’s clothes. You might be able to find new clothes by looting enemies and exploring the many different locations throughout all the acts. I also like to switch clothes with party members that I’m not using in case I like theirs more. They are not going to miss it.

Where to Buy Stuff in Baldur’s Gate?

The city of Baldur’s Gate has several different locations where players can buy items. You might want to check the location of all merchants in Baldur’s Gate 3 to make sure that you’re not missing anything, but here’s a list of stores you can find in the Lower City:

  • Stormshore Armoury
  • Stormshore Tabernacle
  • Felogyr’s Fireworks
  • Bonecloak’s Apothecary
  • Sorcerous Sundries
  • The Glitter Gala
  • The Singing Lute
  • The Blushing Mermaid
  • Forge of the Nine

Who is The Best Merchant in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Karlach-and-Dammon-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: Larian Studios

Many players believe that Exxvikyap, Lorroakan, Roah Moonglow, and Lann Tarv are the best merchants in BG3. Honestly, I don’t think there’s such a thing as a single best merchant in Baldur’s Gate 3. Although I agree they have interesting items, including magic items and scrolls, there’s no single best merchant in Baldur’s Gate 3. Lorroakan’s magic scrolls won’t do any good to you if you want new clothes. Each serves a different purpose, and you should try to visit them all if you have the chance.

Can You Find Quests at Carm’s Garm or Facemaker’s Boutique Clothing Stores in BG3?

When visiting Carm’s Garm, you might stumble upon an NPC called Naaber. He seems to be a nod to Nüber and Noober, similar NPCs from previous Baldur’s Gate games. Talking to him until dialogue options are exhausted means you will have completed the “Patience is a Virtue” quest. Your reward is the Absolute Confidence Amulet, which grants you +1 to Performance checks and -1 to Intimidation checks.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 7 Just Dropped – Here’s What We Know https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/baldurs-gate-3-patch-7-just-dropped-heres-what-we-know/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/baldurs-gate-3-patch-7-just-dropped-heres-what-we-know/#respond Thu, 05 Sep 2024 16:54:58 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=991201 Note: As of time of writing, Patch 7 is only available to PC players, with Console & Mac support anticipated to launch in October 2024.

The highly-acclaimed Baldur’s Gate 3 from Larian Studios was a smash-hit when it launched, and the studio has kept fans hooked by continuously adding new content and ironing out bugs through giant patches.

For those wanting to dive into Patch 7, the updates is 11.6 GB on PC, and requires 160GB of free space to install.

These patches are released periodically and enhance the gameplay experience for players, making QOL updates and even expanding on the relationships that players can build throughout the game. The most recent patch just launched, and its maybe the most monumental that the game has had yet.

Patch 7 Is Filled With Goodies For Evil Doers & Heroes Who Love a Challenge

Collage-style-image-of-Dark-Urge-from-Baldurs-Gate-3-and-Enver-Gortash-from-an-official-in-game-screenshot

Looking at Larian’s hefty patch notes, their intentions are clear right from first paragraph:

Are you ready to embrace evil? Do you yearn to see the consequences of unleashing your inner jerk?

Larian Studios

At a glance, Patch 7 is massive, boasting brand-new evil endings and cinematics, Honour Mode impprovements that include new Legendary Actions for specific encounters, an upgrade to split-screen, modding tools, and a variety of bug fixes and general gameplay improvements.

Patch 7 Introduces 13 New Evil Cinematics

Larian makes it clear that every adventurer taking on the Swords Coast – whether they’re a custom Tav, a Dark Urge, or an Origin Character – has the opportunity to experience a whopping thirteen brand-new cinematics to tap into player’s more sinister compulsions. The patch notes tease this development by showing off some short clips of new cinematics featuring Wyll and Lae’zel – but we won’t give away what the implications of those scenes are.

Baldurs-Gate-3-Alfira

Additionally, for Dark Urge players (redeemed or otherwise) Patch 7 now decides to make one of the playthrough’s biggest gut punches even more brutal by making Alfira temporarily playable as a party member to really twist the knife for those that haven’t experienced the moment hands-on.

Honour Mode Introduced Brand-New Legendary Actions For Seasoned Adventurers

Honour Mode players are in for some major changes with some combat adjustments and new Legendary Actions to make these playthroughs more challenging. Directly from the patch notes, here’s everything that’s been updated:

  • If Dror Ragzlin finds himself inside the spider pit, he’ll try to befriend the spiders residing there with a new spell, “Arachnid Compulsion” so they can band together to fight you.
  • The Bulette has a new condition, “Diamond Scales” and a new Legendary Action, “Shredding Scales”.
  • Malus Thorm has a new Legendary Action called “Grasping Appendage”.
  • There’s a new aura and spell for Spectator encounters called “Panicked Sentinel” and “Ocular Nightmare”.
  • Ch’r’ai Tska’an, the leader of the githyanki ambush in Act II, has a new Legendary Action, “Soul Sacrifice”.
  • Ch’r’ai Har’rak, the githyanki leader at the Knights of the Shield Hideout, has a new Legendary Action, “Tu’narath’s Embrace”.
  • Ptaris has a new Legendary Action, “Ptarian Dogma”.

Wyll Fans Rejoice – the Blade of Frontiers Received Some Much Needed Updates

Collage-style-image-featuring-official-artwork-of-Wyll-Ravengard-from-Baldurs-Gate-3

Despite being one of the main characters in the game, many Baldur’s Gate 3 players have felt as though Wyll gets left out when it comes to receiving new/updated content, but thankfully, Patch 7 introduces many much needed updates to Wyll’s romance and presence in the game.

Among these updates, here’s a few highlights that stood out to us:

  • The background goal Blueblood Solidarity not completing after you talk to Wyll about him being Duke Ravengard’s son has been fixed.
  • Wyll will no longer talk about hunting down Mizora when she’s close by.
  • If Avatar Karlach and Wyll are partners and go to the Hells, he’ll act accordingly during the epilogue.
  • Karlach’s scene in Avernus not playing if you decided to go with her when playing as Wyll has been fixed.
  • Instances where Wyll still has an exclamation mark above his head after players exhaust his dialogue has been fixed.
  • Wyll’s greetings for players with low approval have been fixed so that they properly trigger.
  • A dialogue option asking for a kiss in more paths of Wyll’s epilogue dialogue has been added.
  • Wyll won’t automatically assume he’s talking to Lae’zel if the player is a holograph in the epilogue.

Larian still has few more patches in store for Baldur’s Gate 3 before moving on to other projects. For players interested in reading the detailed patch notes in full, they can find them on Larian’s official Baldur’s Gate 3 site.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Astarion Approval and Romance Guide | Likes, Dislikes, and Dialogue Choices [Patch 6] https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-astarion-approval-romance-guide-likes-dislikes-dialogue-choices/ Fri, 16 Aug 2024 18:34:30 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=952362 Astarion is one of the best companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 and you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t want to romance the sassy vampire spawn. This cunning rogue has a tragic backstory and luscious locks of hair, making him the complete package for Dungeons & Dragons fans playing Baldur’s Gate 3.

Astarion can be a tough nut to crack early in the game – his main focus is self preservation, and he’s willing to do anything to stay safe, even if it means manipulating and using the people around him. While he eventually lets his walls down and begins to soften up, it can be a task to get hi to trust you – especially if you’re a classic hero type.

How To Increase Astarion’s Approval in Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldurs-Gate-3-Astarion
Image: Larian Studios

While Astarion is a tragic character with remarkable depth, he’s a simple man who knows what he likes. Astarion is incredibly easy to read no matter how mysterious he thinks he’s being. To get Astarion to like you, you’re going to have to be tricky, deceitful, and clever.

Astarion’s Likes

Astarion likes any dialogue options that are rude and uncaring toward other people. If you can crack a joke at another’s expense or brush off their problems entirely then you’ll get along with Astarion just fine. He’s not turly evil, like Minthara, but he’ll do whatever it takes to come out on top, no matter who gets hurt in the process. Be cutthroat, and he’ll like you.

Astarion likes the pursuit of power. He sees the Illithid tadpole in your heads as a chance to rise above those who have wronged him. He wants to put people in their place. Talk down to people and give in to your Illithid powers to get the upper hand whenever you can.

Baldurs-Gate-3-Astarion-Deception-Approval
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Astarion is also a Rogue, so he likes cunning, crafty, and deceptive strategies. Talking your way out of a situation with a Charisma check will usually net you some approval points with Astarion, as will picking locks and sneaking into places where you’re not supposed to be. Think like the stereotypical D&D rogue and roleplay that.

Astarion is also a vampire. If you let him suck your blood regularly, he’ll be a happy man, and if you show a genuine interest in his past and show him compassion, even if he’s reluctant, he’ll grow to trust you.

To recap, here’s what you should prioritize to make Astarion like you:

  • Be rude and mean.
  • Enjoy your Illithid powers.
  • Be sneaky, crafty, and cunning.
  • Let him suck your blood.
  • Flatter him.

Astarion’s Dislikes

Anything that a stereotypical good adventurer would do, Astarion isn’t fond of. He won’t hate you if you’re playing a lawful good character, but he won’t love you for it, either. Going out of your way to help those in need or being sympathetic at all is a surefire way to lose approval points.

As for the tadpole, rejecting it in any form will lose approval points with Astarion. It’s a tool to him, a useful one that will prevent anyone from ever hurting him again. It’s not a morality issue to him, so don’t treat it like one. You have a worm in your head and it’s awesome. Use it to make some people suffer.

Of course, this should come across as obvious, but don’t be mean about the whole vampire thing. Let him do what he wants and definitely don’t sell him out to the hunters looking for him. If you act even a little put off by him being a vampire, it’ll be a huge blow to his ego and your approval rating.

Speaking of his ego, you should never insult Astarion under any circumstances. Tell him he’s pretty whenever you have the chance, and give in to his delusions of grandeur whenever possible. If he comes onto you, don’t reject him. These are the biggest mistakes you can make when trying to get Astarion to like you.

Baldurs-Gate-3-Astarion-Tadpole
Image: Larian Studios

To recap, avoid these things or Astarion won’t like you:

  • Don’t be a goody two shoes.
  • Don’t ignore the tadpole and your Illithid powers.
  • Don’t harass him for being a vampire.
  • Don’t insult him or reject him

How to Romance Astarion

Baldurs-Gate-3-Astarion-Stop-Cazador-Ritual
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Romancing Astarion will take the entire game to pull off effectively, as the progression of his romance storyline are spread throughout all 3 Acts. Astarion’s romance arc follows this general structure:

  • Sleep with him in Act 1
  • Hunt down the Orthon for Raphael and speak to the Drow, Araj, in Moonrise, telling her that Astarion can make his own choices in Act 2 and enter a relationship.
  • Complete Astarion’s companion questline in Act 3 and choose whether to let him ascend, or have him live as a Spawn and set the other vampires free.

Act 1 Romance Choices

Astarion-in-Act-1-of-Baldurs-Gate-3

In Act 1, your main priority should be building up your approval with Astarion through dialogue choices and quests. You don’t need a ton of them to initiate the romance, but he won’t sleep with you at all if he doesn’t like you at least a little bit.

Just play the game normally until you resolve the conflict at the Emerald Grove. Regardless of your choice between Halsin or Minthara, there’ll be a celebration at camp the following night. Speak to Astarion at the party and choose the dialogue options that imply you want to sleep with him. He’ll mention “a little fun” and you need to act interested in that.

Once you’ve landed a secret rendevous with Astarion, return to your bedroll to end the day and enjoy the romance cutscene. During the romance scene, your choices matter. These are the correct dialogue options:

  • You don’t have me yet.
  • And what do you want?
  • Nod.

This will lead to you sleeping with Astarion, sowing the seeds for a real relationship in Act 2.

Act 2 Romance Choices

Baldurs-Gate-3-Astarion-Romance-Scene
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

In Act 2, continue the main questline until you reach the Temple of Shar. Raphael will ambush you and ask you to defeat an Orthon named Yurgir in exchange for information about Astarion’s strange scars. Astarion doesn’t have to be in your party for this exchange, but it’s best if he is.

Yurgir-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: Larian Studios

The next time you return to camp after accepting Raphael’s quest, Astarion will come to you in the middle of the night. Choose the following dialogue options:

  • Are you alright?
  • So do I. More than anything.
  • I care about you. Deeply.
  • You are worth a great deal to me, no matter what you’re going through.

If you try to be flirtatious or don’t take him seriously during this encounter, he’ll break up with you because he thinks you only see him as a sexual object. You have to be caring and tender here for the relationship to continue in Act 3.

Act 3 Romance Choices

Astarion-smiling-confidently-in-Baldurs-Gate-3

Once you’re in a relationship with Astarion, there’s very little you can do to ruin it in Act 3. The only thing left to do is pay Cazador a visit and finish his companion questline. There are two endings to Astarion’s romance storyline depending on if you let him complete the ritual and ascend or if you prevent the ritual from happening.

Complete the Ritual and Astarion Ascends

Baldurs-Gate-3-Astarion-Bloody
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

If you let Astarion ascend, then the next romance scene involves you becoming a vampire thrall. You must let him convert you or the relationship will end. Choose the following dialogue options to successfully complete this romance scene:

  • I want to be a vampire, like you.
  • Yes, that’s all I want.
  • Please, yes.

After this, you’ll become Astarion’s vampire thrall and gain the Vampire Bite action during combat just like he has.

Stop the Ritual

Baldurs-Gate-3-Cazador-Ritual
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

If you stop the ritual, Astarion will approach you at camp after the next long rest. The dialogue options don’t matter here as long as you agree to follow him, kicking off the next romance scene. This is a tender scene at Astarion’s grave, and your dialogue choices can’t ruin anything here. You can either accept his advances and sleep with him or choose “Let’s just. stay here. Together.” to end the night without sex.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Karlach Approval and Romance Guide | Likes, Dislikes, and Dialogue Choices [Patch 6] https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-karlach-approval-romance-guide-likes-dislikes-dialogue-choices/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-karlach-approval-romance-guide-likes-dislikes-dialogue-choices/#respond Fri, 16 Aug 2024 18:04:55 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=963587 Karlach is an interesting and lovable character in Baldur’s Gate 3, so it only makes sense that players are looking to romance her. Follow this in-depth guide to learn how to romance Karlach, including her likes, dislikes, and a step-by-step through all three acts.

How to Increase Karlach’s Approval in Baldur’s Gate 3

Collage-style-image-using-official-art-of-Karlach-overlayed-with-broken-hearts

The first step in romancing a character in Baldur’s Gate 3 is figuring out their likes and dislikes. Each character is different in this regard, so in the following sections, you will discover what Karlach likes and dislikes so you can become her partner in the end.

Karlach’s Likes

Karlach is a huge fan of people who show acts of kindness and heroism. While having Karlach in your party, always choose an action or dialogue that will help another person or requires a brave mindset. This is especially important when dealing with children, as Karlach loves kids and wants you to be the same.

Considering Karlach is a Tiefling, she likes it when you are kind to her people. When interacting with any other Tiefling on your journey, show a willingness to help and always show respect. This will increase your approval with Karlach tenfold.

Lastly, Karlach approves of violent solutions to problems as long as it is against people with evil intent or malicious actions. For example, she really likes it when you stick up for individuals who are getting bullied or manipulated by others. So when you find someone being taken advantage of, jump in and save them.

Key Character Traits To Earn Approval With Karlach:

  • Acts of kindness.
  • Heroism.
  • Be nice to other Tieflings.
  • Select brave actions.
  • Be nice to children.
  • Violent solutions to bad people.
  • Protect the weak.

Karlach’s Dislikes

As previously mentioned, Karlach approves of violence, but only if it’s not mindless and unnecessary. In other words, don’t choose actions that result in someone getting hurt for no good reason at all. This is a surefire way to have the approval go down with Karlach.

Karlach is a brave Tiefling who doesn’t like working with people who act cowardly. Whenever you have the opportunity to show a brave face or take action in a challenging situation, make sure you do it, as Karlach will not respect you if you don’t.

Lastly, under no circumstances whatsoever, do not side with the Goblins or Minthara. Goblins want to eliminate the Tiefling Camp, so if you side with them, your approval rating with Karlach will go way down. Always make sure you put Tieflings first when trying to romance Karlach.

To recap, here are Karlach’s dislikes:

  • Doesn’t like mindless violence or cruelty.
  • Don’t act cowardly.
  • Don’t side with goblins.

Act 1 Romance & Dialogue Choices

Karlach-smiling-at-the-Dark-Urge-in-Baldurs-Gate-3

The first step in romancing Karlach in Act 1 is rescuing Halsin from the Goblin Camp and the Refugees in the Grove. Doing so will lead to a celebration at the base camp, where the player can talk to Karlach about what is going on.

When speaking to Karlach, pick the following dialogue option:

  • I think I’ve drummed up the courage to tell you how much I like you.

Considering you just saved all those people from the quest, she will approve of you enough that you will get a positive response. Head toward your bed at the camp to start an interaction with Karlach, who will go into detail about an Infernal Engine inside her. Be polite and respectful to Karlach during this interaction, and choose the option to kiss her when the time presents itself.

Act 2 Romance & Dialogue Choices

Baldurs-Gate-3-Karlach
Image: Larian Studios

Since Karlach opened up to you about the Infernal Engine inside her, you’ll need to find a way to cool her down to romance further. The best way to do this is by meeting Dammon, a Tiefling, in Emerald Grove. Speak to him to receive a side quest, sending you to retrieve an Infernal Iron. Once you complete the side quest and bring the Infernal Iron to Dammon, he will create an item that helps Karlach cool down.

For your efforts, the approval rating with Karlach will skyrocket, opening up a bigger chance to romance her. A prompt to talk to Karlach will eventually appear (continue on your journey until it does), and select all the options that align with her likes. Once you sleep in your bed at camp, Karlach will approach you, and you will need to pick the following options:

  • Let’s take things slowly / Believe me, I can handle myself. And you.
  • Go on / What did you have in mind?
  • I’m yours, Karlach / Ah-ah, you first.
  • I thought you’d never ask.

Afterward, you will start a romantic sequence with Karlach. After the sequence ends, speak to Karlach in the morning and pick the following options:

  • Of course I do. Never doubt it / I much more than ‘like’ you.
  • If our record is anything to go by, there are plenty of disasters in our future. But we’ll face them together.
  • I adore you too / I love you.

Act 3 Romance & Dialogue Choices

Karlach-during-her-romance-scene-in-Act-2

During Act 3, once you reach the Lower City, you will have the chance to romance Karlach further if your approval rating is high enough. Karlach will invite you on a date where you can agree, opening up another dialogue option sequence. Choose the following dialogue option:

  • Thank you – so do you / Don’t I Know it.

Choose whichever food and drink option, and keep the conversation going (any choices here are fine) until you can go upstairs with Karlach. When she asks you to go upstairs, you have two options that will work here:

  • After you.
  • I’ll happily head upstairs with you, but I want to make sure I’m clear about not wanting to sleep together.

Selecting “After you” will lead to another romantic night together, increasing your relationship with Karlach. If you choose the second option, you will still have a romantic evening together, but it will only involve kissing.

Either choice you make here will still improve your relationship with Karlach, so it just comes down to preference.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Lae’zel Approval and Romance Guide | Likes, Dislikes, and Dialogue Choices [Patch 6] https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-laezel-approval-romance-guide-likes-dislikes-dialogue-choices/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-laezel-approval-romance-guide-likes-dislikes-dialogue-choices/#respond Fri, 16 Aug 2024 17:38:53 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=964913 If you’re interested in befriending, or even romancing Lae’zel in Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s important to understand her completely, including her likes and dislikes throughout the story.

Lae’zel is hands down one of the best companions Baldur’s Gate 3. She is a formidable Githyanki fighter, considered powerful even among her Mind Flayer-hunting kin. She can be hard to please early in Act 1, but once you get to know her, she has a soft side.

How To Increase Lae’zel’s Approval in Baldur’s Gate 3

Laezel-badass-pose
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Lae’zel, like many other characters of Baldur’s Gate 3, has a strong personality – especially when she joins your party in Act 1. Gaining a character’s approval is key to triggering specific romantic events, and deepening you relationship with them enough to sway them in critical moments throughout the game.

Lae’zel’s Likes

Lae’zel is all about demonstrating power and conviction. She is a powerful fighter who sees diplomacy as a tool used only by weaklings. You can’t appear inferior if you want to earn her admiration. Always behave as a strong and assertive warrior, even when it may be viewed as cruel. Here’s a list of things Lae’zel approves of:

  • Demonstrating combat skills and prowess.
  • Taking assertive and decisive actions.
  • Prioritizing personal goals over helping others.
  • Expressing determination to find a cure for ceremorphosis.
  • Supporting self-preservation and acknowledging the need for protection.
  • Accepting challenges and facing them head-on.
  • Displaying strength and resistance to external influences.
  • Exhibiting a ruthless demeanor.
  • Remaining composed and resisting external pressures.
  • Engaging in combat, especially against formidable opponents.
  • Demonstrating dominance and superiority.

Lae’zel’s Dislikes

As mentioned above, if you want Lae’Zel to like you, she can’t perceive you as someone who is beneath her. Choosing a path that makes you look weak or cowardly is an easy way to make her dislike you. Here’s a list of things Lae’zel disapproves of:

  • Choosing non-confrontational or submissive approaches.
  • Attempting to negotiate or persuade others peacefully.
  • Engaging in degrading or undignified activities.
  • Showing sympathy or compassion towards others.
  • Demonstrating a lack of conviction or assertiveness.
  • Succumbing to external pressures or influences.

How To Romance Lae’zel

Act-1-Laezel
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Before you can have a romantic scene with Lae’zel, you must progress enough in the campaign for her to notice your actions and make sure that she won’t see you in a negative light. For that to happen, you must consider what she’d think of your actions and choose what to do accordingly. Her perception of you may fluctuate based on the unfolding events in the story and interactions at the campsite.

Act 1 Dialogue & Romance Choices

To romance Lae’zel, you have to make choices to prove to her that you’re capable of being no-nonsense. Her initial romance scene can be unlocked pretty easily, by doing things like letting her put Zorru down in the Tiefling camp. You can also make pro-Gith statements and firmly align yourself with her views while demonstrating strength in roleplay situations. Always choose dialogue options that make you look powerful and threatening, and take Lae’zel’s side when she explains how to deal with the Mind Flayer tadpoles.

Act 2 Dialogue & Romance Choices

Laezel-Act-2

If you maintain Lae’zel’s approval, she will eventually admit how much you’ve been on her mind. Then, she will challenge you to a one-on-one duel during a long rest in your camp. Regardless of who wins the duel, her romance will progress.

Winning the duel makes Lae’zel realize you’re strong enough to protect her. However, if Lae’zel wins, she realizes her love for you prevents her from causing you any harm. After this point, the two of you are in an exclusive relationship.

Act 3 Dialogue & Romance Choices

Laezel-and-her-queen

During Act 3, things will depend on what happened to Lae’zel during Act 1 and Act 2. If she remained loyal to the Lich Queen Vlaakith, Lae’zel will eventually end her relationship with you. It seems that being a dragon rider for the Lich Queen while distracting herself with your companionship isn’t something she can balance. If Lae’zel’s loyalty switches and she decides to be loyal to Orpheus instead, your relationship with her will endure and can will influence the game’s ending.

Larian Studios recently posted on their X (formerly Twitter) account for Baldur’s Gate 3 a sneak peak at one of the new evil endings that will be available once Patch 7 finally drops.

The New Ending Tricks Baldurian Citizens Into Living In Total Bliss

While details are still sparse regarding how these evil endings will be triggered by players, the clip Larian chose to tease chose what looks like a crowd of Baldurian citizens being controlled by the same aberrant mind powers that Mind Flayers & the tadpoles possess to fill their heads with lofty daydreams about their day-to-day.

While the closed beta for Patch 7 was initially delayed due to some internal coding issues, it looks like the release of the massive patch is back on track for an early Fall 2024 release date.

Which Cleric Domain and Deity Should You Choose in Baldur’s Gate 3? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/which-cleric-domain-deity-should-you-choose-baldurs-gate-3/ Wed, 14 Aug 2024 01:38:17 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=939662 Creating a Cleric in Baldur’s Gate 3 is one of the most intimidating things for beginners that aren’t familiar with Dungeons & Dragons because there are so many Domains and Deities to choose from. While Domains are more important – since they act as your subclass – your chosen Deity is still essential for roleplaying purposes and interactions with other companions and NPCs throughout the game.

All Baldur’s Gate 3 Cleric Domains, Explained

Shadowheart-Baldurs-Gate-3-1
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

There are 7 Domains to choose from in Baldur’s Gate 3. Each comes with its own list of spells and abilities that will be awarded as you level up. For starters, the BG3 Tempest Cleric Domain is a fan favorite.

While some Domains are commonly associated with certain Deities (the Life Domain is usually associated with good Deities, for example) you can mix and match as you please.

Best Cleric Domain in Baldur’s Gate 3

If you ask me, the best Domain to choose for your Cleric is either the Life Domain or the War Domain. The former is the stereotypical choice for a Cleric, but with good reason, since it allows players to heal and buff allies on the field. Conversely, the latter is excellent for Clerics who don’t want to be shoehorned into a support role. The Tempest Domain also works for this purpose if you prefer lightning magic instead of traditional swordplay.

Life Domain

The Life Domain is associated with many good Deities. It focuses on protective and restorative spells, making it perfect for a support-oriented Cleric. In addition to Heavy Armor Proficiency, this Domain starts with Disciple of Life, which permanently buffs all healing spells by 2 HP.

Here’s what you’ll learn as you level up if you choose this Domain.

  • Level 1 – Domain Spells (Bless, Cure Wounds)
  • Level 1 – Disciple of Life (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 1 – Heavy Armour Proficiency (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 2 – Preserve Life (Action)
  • Level 3 – Domain Spells (Lesser Restoration, Aid)
  • Level 5 – Domain Spells (Revivify, Beacon of Hope)
  • Level 6 – Blessed Healer (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 7 – Domain Spells (Death Ward, Guardian of Faith)
  • Level 8 – Divine Strike: Life (Action)
  • Level 9 – Domain Spells (Mass Cure Wounds, Greater Restoration)

Light Domain

According to the official in-game description, the Light Domain is centered around Deities of justice, majesty, and primordial flame. This Domain utilizes spells that can dispel darkness and are effective against undead creatures, which makes sense given the name. Warding Flare, this Domain’s unique spell, lets you force a Disadvantage on attackers.

Here’s what progression looks like for a Light Domain Cleric.

  • Level 1 – Domain Spells (Faerie Fire, Burning Hands)
  • Level 1 – Warding Flare (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 1 – Light (Subclass Feature, Cantrip)
  • Level 2 – Radiance of the Dawn (Action)
  • Level 3 – Domain Spells (Flaming Sphere, Scorching Ray)
  • Level 5 – Domain Spells (Daylight, Fireball)
  • Level 6 – Improved Warding Flare (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 7 – Domain Spells (Wall of Fire, Guardian of Faith)
  • Level 8 – Potent Spellcasting (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 9 – Domain Spells (Flame Strike, Destructive Wave)

Trickery Domain

The Trickery Domain is home to mischievous and chaotic Deities, perfect for Clerics who really wish they could play a Rogue or Bard. Their unique action is Blessing of the Trickster, which gives an Advantage on Stealth checks. Plus, they start out with Disguise Self and Charm Person too.

Here’s what you’ll learn as you level up as a Trickery Domain Cleric.

  • Level 1 – Domain Spells (Disguise Self, Charm Person)
  • Level 1 – Blessing of the Trickster (Action)
  • Level 2 – Invoke Duplicity (Action)
  • Level 3 – Domain Spells (Mirror Image, Pass Without Trace)
  • Level 5 – Domain Spells (Bestow Curse, Fear)
  • Level 7 – Domain Spells (Polymorph, Dimension Door)
  • Level 8 – Divine Strike: Poison (Action)
  • Level 9 – Domain Spells (Dominate Person, Seeming)

Knowledge Domain

The Knowledge Domain is the nerdiest of them all, designed for Clerics who wish to be proficient in language and academic skills. Blessings of Knowledge is its unique feature, letting you learn two additional languages at the start of the game. Plus, you can choose to be proficient in two of the following: Arcana, History, Nature, or Religion. Your proficiency bonus will be doubled to +4 for any skill checks that use your chosen two!

Here’s what progression looks like for the Knowledge Domain.

  • Level 1 – Domain Spells (Command, Sleep)
  • Level 2 – Knowledge of the Ages (Action)
  • Level 3 – Domain Spells (Calm Emotions, Hold Person)
  • Level 5 – Domain Spells (Speak with Dead, Slow)
  • Level 7 – Domain Spells (Confusion, Otiluke’s Resilient Sphere)
  • Level 8 – Potent Spellcasting (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 9 – Domain Spells (Dominate Person, Telekinesis)

Nature Domain

The Nature Domain is self-explanatory, letting you channel your inner Druid to focus on the great outdoors. Nature Domain Clerics are proficient with Heavy Armor, just like Life Domain Clerics, and their unique feature — Acolyte of Nature — lets them learn any Druid cantrip of their choosing and gain proficiency in Animal Handling, Nature, or Survival.

Here’s what the progression path looks like for a Nature Domain Cleric.

  • Level 1 – Domain Spells (Speak with Animals, Animal Friendship)
  • Level 1 – Acolyte of Nature (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 1 – Shillelagh (Cantrip)
  • Level 2 – Charm Animals and Plants (Action)
  • Level 3 – Domain Spells (Spike Growth, Barkskin)
  • Level 5 – Domain Spells (Plant Growth, Sleet Storm)
  • Level 7 – Domain Spells (Dominate Beast, Grasping Vine)
  • Level 8 – Divine Strike: Elemental Fury (Action)
  • Level 9 – Domain Spells (Insect Plague, Wall of Stone)

Tempest Domain

The BG3 Tempest Cleric Domain is centered around lightning, thunder, and storms. It’s mainly an offensive Domain that provides proficiency with Martial Weapons and Heavy Armor, so it’s perfect for Clerics who want to be on the front lines and deal massive damage. Its unique feature is Wrath of the Storm, a spell that strikes a foe and deals 2-16 Lightning damage (or half of that on a failed Saving Throw). I found the Wrath of the Storm feature to help me the most in the game’s brutal battles, so I highly recommend it.

Here are all the spells that a Tempest Domain Cleric learns as they level up.

  • Level 1 – Domain Spells (Thunderwave, Fog Cloud)
  • Level 1 – Heavy Armour Proficiency (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 1 – Martial Weapon Proficiency (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 1 – Wrath of the Storm (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 2 – Destructive Wrath (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 3 – Domain Spells (Shatter, Gust of Wind)
  • Level 5 – Domain Spells (Call Lightning, Sleet Storm)
  • Level 6 – Thunderous Strike (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 7 – Domain Spells (Ice Storm, Freedom of Movement)
  • Level 8 – Divine Strike: Tempest (Action)
  • Level 9 – Domain Spells (Insect Plague, Destructive Wave)

War Domain

Last but certainly not least, the War Domain is designed for Clerics who want to smite evildoers with holy powers. Choosing this Domain will make you proficient with Heavy Armor and Martial Weapons and grant you the War Priest ability, which grants you War Priest charges that can be spent to make additional attacks during your turn.

Here’s what progression looks like for the War Domain.

  • Level 1 – Domain Spells (Divine Favour, Shield of Faith)
  • Level 1 – Heavy Armour Proficiency (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 1 – Martial Weapon Proficiency (Subclass Feature)
  • Level 1 – War Priest (Subclass Feature)

  • Level 8 – Divine Strike: Warmaster (Action)
  • Level 9 – Domain Spells (Flame Strike, Hold Monster)

What Does a Cleric Deity Do in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Baldurs-Gate-3-Cleric-Deity
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

There are a whopping 21 Deities to choose from when creating a Cleric in Baldur’s Gate 3. This choice doesn’t affect anything related to gameplay or combat but will affect your relationship with certain NPCs and your available dialogue options in specific scenarios. This is purely a roleplaying decision, so try to choose the one that sounds the coolest to you. My personal favorite is the BG3 Tempus Cleric Deity.

Related: Avoid Baldur’s Gate 3’s Frustrating Traps System Using This Simple Command

Here’s a list of all 21 Baldur’s Gate 3 Deities with a brief summary of each.

  • Selune: Goddess of the Moon, Stars, and Navigation
  • Bahamut: Dragon God of Justice
  • Tempus: Lord of Battles
  • Tyr: Blind God of Law and Justice
  • Helm: The Watcher, Eternal Sentry Among the Gods
  • Ilmater: Crying God of the Oppressed and Persecuted
  • Mystra: Mother of All Magic
  • Oghma: God of Inspiration and Invention
  • Kelemvor: Guides the Undead to the Afterlife
  • Moradin: Dwarven God of Smiths, Artisans, and Miners
  • Corellon Larethian: Creator of Elves and Overseer of Elven Pantheon, God of Art, Magic, and Nature
  • Garl Glittergold: King of the Gnomish Gods, Deity of Humor, Gem-Cutting, Protection, and Trickery
  • Yondalla: Mother of the Halfling Pantheon, Goddess of Home, Hearth, and Nature
  • Lolth: Matriarch of the Drow Pantheon, Goddess of Spiders and the Underdark, seeks to corrupt all Drow and turn them into cultists.
  • Gruumsh: Patron Deity of Orcs, God of War, Conquest, and Victory
  • Tiamat: Dragon God of Greed
  • Eilistraee: Goddess of Good Drow, Beauty, Song, and Freedom
  • Lathander: God of Dawn and Spring, Birth and New Beginnings
  • Talos: Uncaring and Destructive Force of Nature
  • Tymora: Goddess of Fortune and Gambling
  • Mielikki: Goddess of Forests

While most of these Deities can be chosen without affecting your character that much, be wary of selecting Deities like Lolth, who are reviled throughout Faerun. Lolth, for example, wishes to turn every Drow into a mindless servant. In addition, Tiamat is described as a “roiling mass of avarice and hate that is currently trapped within the Nine Hells.”

Openly worshiping some of these Deities might make some NPCs think less of you. However, nobody’s really going to care if you serve Garl Glittergold on the other hand. If you want to deepen your relationship with everyone’s favorite Wizard, Gale, you should choose Mystra to unlock some unique dialogue options with him at camp. Meanwhile, if you want NPCs to associate you with war and battles, select the BG3 Tempus Cleric Deity.

Speaking of deepening your relationship with Gale, check out our Gale romance guide for BG3.

Which Cleric Deity is Best in Baldur’s Gate 3?

As mentioned, choosing a Cleric Deity isn’t the most crucial decision in Baldur’s Gate 3, as they only change dialogue options. That said, it is recommended to pick one that can deepen a relationship with a party member or one that aligns well with the Clerics role.

For example, as stated in the last section, choosing Mystra, described as “Mother of all Magic,” will deepen your relationship with the Wizard Gale. Another great pick is Bahamut, described as the “Dragon God of Justice,” who is well regarded and looked at for their healing capabilities, which aligns well with the Cleric class.

Do Deities Matter in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Deities only matter if you care about the story of Baldur’s Gate 3. In other words, it depends on what you are trying to get out of the game. For example, deities don’t change how combat turns out or the game’s overall difficulty, but they do change the roleplaying nature of the game. You will get different dialogue options depending on the Deity you choose, so it’s smart to choose wisely if dialogue options are an important factor to you.

Considering Baldur’s Gate 3 is at its absolute best when role-playing and discovering the lore the game includes, I recommend you pick the Deity that sounds the coolest to you. You will find that BG3 can get incredibly in-depth regarding relationships with other characters, and each Deity can significantly impact how things pan out.

If you are unsure which one to choose, you can save before selecting the Deity and then load the game later if you get bored of your current pick. For example, I first selected the Bahamut Deity and didn’t like it, so I reloaded the save game and went with BG3 Tempest Deity instead, which was more my speed.

Which is the Best Race for a Cleric in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The best race to choose for the Cleric class in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the Duegar. The Duegar is the best for a couple of reasons: they get a boost in proficiency with bludgeoning weapons and gain an advantage against being paralyzed or charmed. These two status effects can turn the tide in combat, so having a Duegar cleric can help counter this.

Act 3 has even more merchants than Act 1. There are way too many places to visit, and way too many things to buy. Boney sells scrolls, which are always useful for those playing a Wizard, and Danthelon’s Dancing Axe has good weapons and it’s fairly easy to find.

Carmen and Figaro have many clothing and dye options for players, Vicar Humbletoes and Nansi Gretta have scrolls, and Dammon will be back with weapons and armor. Make sure to visit Lorroakan’s Projection at Sorcerous Sundries since he has rare scrolls and good magic items.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Gale Approval and Romance Guide: Likes, Dislikes & Dialogue Choices [Patch 6] https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-gale-approval-romance-guide-likes-dislikes-dialogue-choices/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-gale-approval-romance-guide-likes-dislikes-dialogue-choices/#respond Thu, 08 Aug 2024 16:58:22 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=966965 Gale is a smooth-talking, good-hearted companion in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you’re not playing him as an Origin character and want to romance him, learning his likes and dislikes is a good way to win the Waterdeep wizarding prodigy’s heart.

Before being abducted by the Nautiloid, Gale held close relations with Mystra, the goddess of magic – and even shared a romantic relationship with her.

How To Increase Gale’s Approval in Baldur’s Gate 3

How-to-Revive-Gale-in-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: Larian Studios

Gale can be a bit hard to figure out. He’s a heroic and kind-hearted individual, but is also extremely driven by ambition and logic. Gale appreciates when you save lives and make decisions that benefit others, such as choosing to save the tiefling camp in Act 1. Additionally, showing an interest in magic and allowing him to rant about his interests will also build up your relationship.

Gale’s Likes

  • Demonstrating intelligence
  • Protecting allies and other NPCs
  • Showing magical knowledge
  • Using nonviolent solutions to problems
  • Displaying kindness to others
  • Petting Scratch & the Owlbear cub at camp
  • Respecting other people’s privacy and boundaries – especially his early on
  • Giving him Magic Items to consume in Act 1

Gale’s Dislikes

  • Unnecessary violence
  • Recklessness
  • Ignorance to the world around you
  • Lack of curiosity
  • Distrusting him

How To Romance Gale

WDW2
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

To romance Gale, you need to make your decisions with his approval in mind. It’s the same process you go through when looking for approval of any character in the game. There are numerous instances and encounters at the campsite with Gale that could shape his perception of you.

Act 1 Romance Choices

There are way too many ways to make Gale like you during Act 1. The Wizard of Waterdeep will notice and approve of your behavior every time you save NPCs from danger, demonstrate heroism, show empathy, avoid unnecessary violence, and engage in intelligent conversations. Just make sure to entertain his curiosity, act like a hero, and take his concerns seriously.

Act 2 Romance Choices

One of the most effective ways to romance Gale is by completing his companion quest, “Wizard of Waterdeep”. However, there are other things that you can only do in Act 2 to make Gale like you more:

  • Shuffle the board in the game between Mol and Raphael
  • Do not drink Jaheira’s wine when you first meet her
  • Tell Arabella you found her parents dead.
  • Ask Elminster why you’re facing the Absolute alone if even the gods know about its threat.
  • Let Gale teach you magic.

Act 3 Romance Choices

In Act 3, several dialogue choices can influence Gale’s approval. For example, inside the House of Hope, refuse to remove your clothes and pledge your body to Raphael’s personal incubus, Haarlep. You can also persuade Gale to join you in bed with the Drow twins. When he expresses his doubts, tell him: “Your body looks great to earn his approval.

How To Have a Poly Romance in Baldur’s Gate 3

Shadowheart-Baldurs-Gate-3-1
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Romancing multiple companions in Baldur’s Gate 3 isn’t much different from building a monogamous relationship. Of course, you’ll need to ensure that you’ve gained enough favorability with all your potential partners that they’re open to entering a relationship with you. This can be done by choosing the correct dialogue options during your one-on-one interactions with them, and making roleplaying decisions during the main story that they approve of.

Something that’s important to note, however, when exploring poly in Baldur’s Gate 3 is that some characters aren’t interested in sharing you with your companions – in fact, there are only a handful of characters that are truly open and willing to “open up the relationship”.

All Polyamorous and Monogamous Companions in Baldur’s Gate 3

How-to-Revive-Gale-in-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: Larian Studios

The two companions that will be vehemently against having a polyamorous relationship are Wyll Ravengard and Gale Dekarios. If you attempt to romance other companions while committed to them, they’ll confront you and force you to choose between them.

Additionally, while the rest of the companions are more open to being in a polyamorous relationship, they aren’t willing to be in one with some of the other companions, even if you try to convince them. Alternatively, there are some companions who are “open to sharing” in Act 1 and early into Act 2, but as your relationship develops, they’ll want exclusivity.

Here are a handful of examples of potential outcomes for players trying to experience a poly romance in Baldur’s Gate 3:

  • Shadowheart is open to being in a polyamorous relationship with you and someone else in Act 1 as long as it’s not Lae’zel. However, as your relationship with her deepens in Act 2, she’ll want to become exclusive.
  • Astarion is open to a relationship with you, Halsin, and Minthara. He is also available, albeit somewhat reluctantly, to be in a relationship with you and Shadowheart until she decides she wants a monogamous relationship in Act 2.
  • Karlach is open to being in a polyamorous relationship with you and someone else in Act 1 since she’s unable to be physical, but once her Infernal Engine is repaired by Dammon and the relationship deepens, she’ll request to be exclusive.
  • Halsin and Minthara are both open to being in a polyamorous relationship with you if they get along with the other partner.

How To End a Relationship In Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldurs-Gate-3-Astarion-Romance-Scene
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

If you went down the Polygamy route and have maybe changed your mind on the whole ordeal — there is a way to end one, or both, of the relationships. Players can end a relationship with another character by selecting the correct dialogue options during regular conversations, or in the middle of romance cutscenes.

For the former, when you are speaking with the character(s) you are romancing, an option will appear that says something along the lines of, “Let’s talk about us.” Once you select this, you will have the option to end it for good.

It’s important to note that players have reported that this dialogue option doesn’t always appear, meaning it may only become available if you’ have been in the relationship for a certain amount of time’ve achieved certain milestones in the relationship. Keep an eye out for these dialogue choices during romance cutscenes and when speaking with your romance partner.

While Act 1 was relatively tame in giving away information about the Dark Urge’s backstory, Act 2 hits like a truck – and as I continued playing noticed something undeniable: the Dark Urge and Enver Gortash absolutely had “something” going on before the events of the main game.

I’m not the only person picking up on the tension between the Dead Three’s chosen either, but Larian Studios is determined to try and run away from the possibility of “Durgetash” being made canon.

Plenty of fans are excited for the release of Patch 7. Larian recently dropped the patch notes on their social platforms, and it introduces a number of incredible changes, bug fixes, and the official modding toolkit. Also featured on Community Update #28, though, is this excerpt:

Clearly, Larian Studios has heard pleas from the desperate Durgetash community for any crumbs of content or making the doomed ship canon, but the studio has decided to instead choose violence. This isn’t the first time the studio has made jabs at fans of the ship either, as they regularly engage with fans of the villainous Lord Enver Gortash on Twitter/X.

Larian-studios-poking-fun-at-Durgetash-shippers-on-Twitter

These aren’t the only examples, of course, but Larian does seem to love the banter. The bigger question on this issue, though, is why they’re so dedicated to shooting down the hopes of Durgetash fans when there are clearly nods to the pair having some kind of “more-than-enemies-less-than-friends” dynamic before the Dark Urge got tadpoled.

Analyzing the Relationship Between Gortash & the Dark Urge: Partners In World Domination, Or Something More?

Collage-style-image-of-Gortash-and-Dark-Urge

Analyzing what once was between Enver Gortash and Dark Urge is tricky at best, partially due to the fact that many of the references to the pair’s relationship can only be found in books, letters, and journals scattered throughout the game that are incredibly easy to miss for a player barreling through the main story. Regardless, observant Durgetash fans have done their research and have scoured every corner of the Sword Coast to find evidence that these two used to be involved with one another.

Posted by u/AgitatedMango9695 on Reddit, the following letter can be found in game – including a note added by Balthazar at the end making a jab at Dark Urge – of Bhaal’s chosen lamenting about being unable to ignore Gortash’s inherent genius.

Journal-Entry-from-Dark-Urge-Discussing-Their-Feelings-For-Gortash
Screenshots Taken By u/AgitatedMango9695

Called a “Prayer of Forgiveness” in-game, this is the first concrete piece of evidence that the two had a much deeper relationship other than uniting the chosen of the Dead Three to take over Faerûn. Once the player makes it to Act 3, there are even more hints scattered throughout alluding to something going on – including a unique piece of Gortash dialogue when he’s speaking to Orin in an early cutscene, giving a shocked, “They live?” after hearing that the Dark Urge is making their way to the city.

When the Dark Urge finally makes it to Wyrm’s Crossing and goes to speak to Gortash during the coronation ceremony, he seems genuinely elated to see them – something that he does not do for a regular Tav. His body language in the cutscenes that follow are notably different, darting his eyes away and even smiling. If you have Karlach in your party, he even says this, “To think you and Karlach travelled together all this time, and she hadn’t the faintest you were one of my nearest and dearest.” and with specific dialogue choices will later add, “You and I always knew we could only stand against the world united.”

Then, when Orin begins invading the player’s camp, she makes a pointed statement directed at the player that they have always been easily influenced by the “Lordling”.

Orin-the-Red-and-Gortash-in-a-screenshot-from-Baldurs-Gate-3

This isn’t what ultimately sold me on the two having involvement, believe it or not. What really sealed the deal for me as a player was learning about the heist on Mephistopheles vault, and what Gortash says to the player as they enter the The Iron Throne to rescue Ulder Ravengard, and their final conversation in a “good” aligned run if the player chooses to betray him. Surprisingly, much of this evidence was introduced in Patch 6 – one of the very few breadcrumbs that Larian has tossed to players to fuel speculation.

If the player chooses to betray Gortash and rescue Duke Ravengard from The Iron Throne, upon entering Gortash’s chambers in Wyrm’s Crossing, he will reprimand the Dark Urge for going against him, saying that the two of them could have been partners in crime had they chosen differently. To this, the player is presented with a series of dialogue options with one of them standing out, stating, “For what it’s worth, I think I always liked you, too. But this is how it must be.” Selecting this option, the player is hit with this narrative piece of pining: “There is hesitation in his eye for one moment. A passing thought of all times spent together you’ll never remember.” Gortash quickly interjects with, “Is that what you–” before being dramatically cut off by the rumbling of the Elder Brain.

While this is an overt bit of fanservice being thrown at Durgetash fans, this isn’t the only special dialogue shippers have decided to run with. When the player begins their descent into The Irone Throne, Gortash will send a clear message for them to stop what they’re doing or threaten to kill everyone imprisoned inside. While not the most concrete, the Dark Urge does get an interesting unique response to this, saying that Gortash is theirs to take from. Any fan of doomed or toxic ships can read between the lines with this one, even if it may seem like a stretch at a glance.

Collage-style-Image-featuring-unique-dialogue-between-Gortash-and-Dark-Urge

One of the most interesting pieces of evidence that players can find about the pair’s past is the plot to raid Mephistopheles Vault. While this can, of course, be read as nothing more than two evil individuals plotting to unite for a common goal, it also opens the gates for a great deal of analysis and implication regarding just how much Gortash and the Dark Urge have relied on one another in the past. It also confirms that the two were well acquainted before the “Absolute” plot, and that despite their patron Gods being fierce rivals, moving past that in order to truly care for each other.

References to the raid can be found by speaking with Helsik in the Devil’s Fee while playing Dark Urge before traveling to the House of Hope in Act 3. Helsik will recognize the Dark Urge right away, but, as per usual, the Dark Urge has amnesia and can’t remember anything about interacting with Helsik in the past. She’s willing to enlighten you on a bit of your history, telling the player that she had opened a portal for the Dark Urge and Lord Gortash to enter the Hells. She doesn’t provide much else aside from this, but players can also find a note written by a spy hired by Orin, and one written by Gortash corroborating this information.

While a reach, the pair must have had a great deal of respect and trust for one another in order to band together to attempt to rob Mephistopheles – the most powerful Archdevil next to Asmodeus. Gortash and his favorite assassin have undeniable history, and while many players could understandably read these interactions as being the result of a deep-rooted trust, it’s impossible to look at this evidence without also seeing clear nods to doomed, romantic pining.

Enver-Gortash-using-the-Nether-Stone-in-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: Larian Studios

Our read on these interactions is that it’s almost undeniable that the feelings Gortash and the Dark Urge have for one another are anything but platonic. Even if it’s toxic, Archduke Enver Gortash is pining for the Dark Urge, and it’s time for Larian to stop avoiding the writing on the wall. Even if we can never ultimately save Gortash if we decide to side with him in Act 3, we should at least have one last chance for an angst-filled goodbye between the two – and maybe that kiss that Larian keeps insisting he’s too busy for.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC (Windows & macOS), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Voice Actor Gets Rejected By Karlach In Hilarious Stream Clip https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/baldurs-gate-3-theo-solomon-rejected-karlach-twitch-vod/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/baldurs-gate-3-theo-solomon-rejected-karlach-twitch-vod/#respond Wed, 17 Jul 2024 22:16:36 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=987240 Of Baldur’s Gate 3‘s many irresistibly romanceable companions, Karlach is one of the best. She’s full of energy, loving, and ready to throw herself in a rage to protect those she cares about. While many have found themselves charmed by the Tiefling and, in turn, have charmed her – others aren’t so lucky.

Theo Solomon, who plays Wyll Ravengard and Bernard in the smash-hit RPG, recently found himself on the receiving end of being not-so-subtly rejected by the fiery Barbarian during his playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Twitch.

Theo May Have Been Rejected, But He Shook It Off

In the hilarious Youtube Short, Theo decides to shoot his shot to spend some one-on-one time with Karlach during the Tiefling party at the end of Act 1. In a tragic twist, Karlach shoots him down with her classic “let’s not ruin a good thing” voiceline. Theo plays it off, though, putting on a pair of sunglasses and moving on with the party.

Not to fear – as Theo did manage to score a romantic night with Shadowheart instead. For fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Theo Solomon, the actor streams on Twitch at theosolomon1 and posts clips from his streams on Youtube @TheoSolomon1.

What to Do With ‘Fake Portrait of a Noble Before His Death’ in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/what-to-do-with-fake-portrait-of-a-noble-before-his-death-in-baldurs-gate-3-bg3/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/what-to-do-with-fake-portrait-of-a-noble-before-his-death-in-baldurs-gate-3-bg3/#respond Tue, 16 Jul 2024 18:03:38 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=977087 Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game filled with intriguing quests and mysteries that span across multiple Acts. One such mystery is an item that has puzzled many players is the ‘Fake Portrait of a Noble Before His Death.’ This item can be obtained from Oskar Fevras in the sewers, but is it actually used for anything in-game?

How to Use the Fake Portrait of a Noble Before His Death in BG3

Oskar-the-Paintor
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Although the ‘Fake Portrait of a Noble Before His Death’ seems to be a key item in a quest line involving Oskar Fevras, it’s just a miscellaneous item. It appears Oskar may be selling counterfeit versions of costly paintings in Act 3 to earn some money. If you want, you can buy this and other paintings from him and drop them in your camp to decorate it; while simultaneously implying that his life could have taken a different turn if someone had rescued him from the Zhentarim hideout in Act 1.

The ‘Free the Artist’ Quest Line

Kerri-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

The portrait is related to Lady Jannath’s estate, located south of the House of Grief and north of the Steel Watch Foundry. If you explore the estate, you’ll discover that Lady Jannath and Oskar share a romantic relationship, and she has been searching for him. Calling back to Act 1, if you exhaust Oskar’s voicelines in the Zhent’s hideout after deciding you do want to help him, you’ll learn he was set to marry before needing to ‘think things through’ and getting captured by the Zhents.

To properly finish complete his questline, you will need to help him out during Act 1. Here’s how to reunite Oskar and Lady Jannath:

  1. Free Oskar from the Zhentarim hideout in Act 1 by persuading Brem, the trader in the hideout to set him free or by buying his freedom.
  2. Look for Oskar in Baldur’s Gate during Act 3 at Lady Jannath’s Estate to the west of the Lower City, north of the Steel Watch Foundry. There is a Dragonborn standing guard at the front door that will give advise the player not to enter, but ultimately won’t do anything if you do.
  3. Toggle ‘Non-Lethal Attacks’ to being active on the ‘Passives tab’.
  4. Knock out Oskar, who is threatening Lady Jannath in her room.
  5. Loot Oskar and get the key from him after he’s knocked out and talk with Lady Jannath to find out about all the strange paranormal activity effecting their home.
  6. Reach the Atelier at the top of the manor. Note: You may need to find creative methods of getting to the top without constantly being knocked down by the cursed skulls throughout the house.
  7. Take the Painting of a Smiling Maiden in the Atelier and place on the Painting Stand.
  8. Go behind the secret door that opened and read the letter.
  9. Read the letter inside the locked chest.
  10. Get the Torch of Revocation from Mystic Carrion in Philgrave’s Mansion, located south of Sorcerous Sundries and Felogyr’s Fireworks in the abandoned house.
  11. Use the Torch of Revocation to destroy the Painting of a Smiling Maiden in the Atelier.
  12. Return to Oskar and Lady Jannath’s bedroom and speak with them to trigger the quest’s finale.

Moving forward, the optimal way to conclude this quest is by attempting to persuade Kerri that her behavior is out of character. Go for persuasion checks whenever you can. That said, this is a moment for you to roleplay how your character would respond to the following conversation moreso than just deciding what the “right” choice would be.

If you let Oskar stick around in the land of the living after the fact, he will offer to take you back into the Atelier to paint a portrait of the hero that saved him and his troubled marriage.

Wyll Ravengard Is One Of Baldur’s Gate 3’s Best Characters That Too Many Miss Out On https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/baldurs-gate-3-game-wyll-ravengard-best-character/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/baldurs-gate-3-game-wyll-ravengard-best-character/#respond Tue, 09 Jul 2024 20:48:06 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=986891 The award-winning Baldur’s Gate 3 has made huge waves in the gaming industry for just about anything fans could imagine. It’s approach to adapting the Dungeons & Dragons 5e system, character writing, and narrative are all superb, but there’s one crucial thing that too many fans are missing out on – Wyll Ravengard.

While every companion featured in Baldur’s Gate 3 has their fans, Wyll is often overlooked in fandom discussions, and while many have made an effort to push for his inclusion in many corners of the internet, he’s still grossly underrated, and we’re here to tell you why you need to give the Blade of Frontiers more love.

Wyll Embodies the Classic Folk Hero Archetype With a Tragic Twist

Wyll-Ravengard-smiling-at-the-player-character-in-the-Tiefling-camp-during-Act-1-of-BG3
Larian Studios

When Wyll is first introduced in the first act when the player stumbles across the goblin ambush at the Grove, he receives a perfectly executed introductory cutscene that tells the player exactly what he’s all about from the get-go: flashy heroics, and classic do-gooding. Plus, regardless of his title as the ‘Blade of Frontiers’, Wyll is a total sweetheart, and remains extremely humble despite how many of the tieflings faun over him and his abilities. When players get officially introduced to him as he assists in training the tiefling children, he’s stuck in a situation much like everyone else in your party: he was infected with a Mind Flayer parasite.

It’s apparent rather quickly that Wyll isn’t all he appears to be, since he reluctantly tells the player he managed to get infected while pursuing a devil in Avernus – not the typical job the classic storybook hero type like Wyll would usually be up to. Additionally, his stone eye suspiciously looks like a Sending Stone – a magic item in Dungeons & Dragons that allows for long-distance communication. Regardless, he’s happy to join you on your journey as long as you promise him you’ll do something to aid the tieflings in finding safe passage to Baldur’s Gate, and help him kill the devil he’s been tracking. This opens up his personal quest line: The Blade of Frontiers.

Wyll-Ravengard-trying-to-give-Umi-advice-in-Baldurs-Gate-3

As players grow closer to Wyll, his backstory begins to unravel. He was the one and only son to the very famous Duke Ulder Ravengard from Baldur’s Gate, and while he was raised among the city’s other noble families, Wyll always has always possessed a rebellious streak, and would run off spending time with the kids outside his socioeconomic circle, and training with his father. From the time Wyll was very young, the expectation was placed on him that he should live up to what his father wanted for him: take Ulder’s position in the Flaming Fist, succeed him in becoming the next Duke Ravengard, and continue his legacy as a champion of the city.

Wyll’s world fell apart, though, when he was only seventeen-years-old. Watching his father be named Grand Duke at such a young age and seeing him off to Elturel to assist in settling on of the many political disputes at the time, Wyll began to hear haunting whispers in the night that demanded he traverse alone to Dusthawk Hall. There, Wyll swears that he saw Dragon Cultists attempting to summon the vicious, devastatingly powerful being Tiamat to destroy the city. Young, desperate, and powerless to stop the onslaught on his own – Wyll was suddenly approached by a cambion named Mizora, who offered him the power to save the city he adored so much. His city, his father’s city – the place his family vowed to protect.

Wyll made the pact, trading his soul for the power to save the city. Much to his dismay, when his father returned from Elturel, he didn’t see Wyll’s choice as a noble sacrifice. Instead, his father was heartbroken and angry, casting Wyll out of his home, and the city he traded his soul to protect.

Wyll Doesn’t Need You To Fix Him – He Just Needs You In His Corner

Wyll-Ravengard-smiling-with-blood-on-his-face-in-BG3
Larian Studios

Much like the other companions featured in Baldur’s Gate 3, Wyll is a victim of circumstance. He’s a victim – a young man that was taken advantage of and easily manipulated by doing what, at the time, he truly believed was an act of heroism to protect the place that raised him. That said, when looking at Wyll compared to some of your other companions – especially those that you meet extremely early on, Wyll doesn’t have many – if any – ulterior motives in joining you. He didn’t know that the “devil” he was sent after, Karlach, was actually a tiefling forced into Zariel’s service, and he’s well aware of how evil and calculating Mizora is.

Plus, despite the fact he’s clearly being constantly threatened by his Warlock patron and worried sick for the safety of his father in spite of their rocky relationship, he never makes you feel responsible for making him better. From the very first moment the party becomes aware that Wyll’s patron is a cambion working for Zariel, he swears to protect them, and that he’s the only one responsible for dealing with Mizora’s wrath. He’s even more than willing to selflessly give up a second chance at life in Baldur’s Gate to follow Karlach back into Avernus to fight alongside her so she can continue to live and search for a cure to her infernal engine troubles. Wyll, despite the reputation Warlocks often have, truly possesses a heart of gold. While everyone has their character flaws, it’s so effortless to root for Wyll and want to do what’s best for him while navigating his personal quest line, and we desperately wish that the game had more of him for players to experience.

Wyll Ravengard proves that despite everything that happens to you, if you carry your head up high and keep moving forward, you can be a hero.

Divine Intervention Arm Thy Servant: What Does the Legendary Weapon do in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/divine-intervention-arm-thy-servant-what-does-the-legendary-weapon-do-in-baldurs-gate-3-bg3/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/divine-intervention-arm-thy-servant-what-does-the-legendary-weapon-do-in-baldurs-gate-3-bg3/#respond Wed, 10 Jan 2024 20:08:10 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=978280 If you have selected a Cleric as a class or recruited one to your party, you may wonder what the Arm Thy Servant does when using Divine Intervention. In this guide, we have the answer for you, explaining what this legendary weapon does in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Arm Thy Servant Legendary Mace Effects and Stats

When you reach level 10 as a Cleric in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will be granted the Class Feature called “Divine Intervention.” This feature can only be used once per Cleric throughout the entire playthrough. When using Divine Intervention, you have four options, one being the “Arm Thy Servant.” Arm Thy Servant summons the legendary Devotee’s Mace.

The Devotee’s Mace is a legendary +3 Mace that deals bonus 1d8 Radiant Damage with each attack. Additionally, Devotee’s Mace comes with a passive bonus action called Healing Incense Aura, which, when cast, will create a circle around you that heals yourself and any nearby allies. This is incredibly powerful, as it will heal 1d4 HP at the start of the caster’s turn. Using this can save you from meeting defeat in the game’s challenging battles.

All Divine Intervention Choices

If you aren’t pleased with the stats of the Devotee’s Mace, then there are other options when using the Divine Intervention Class Feature. Below, we have laid out all four options for Divine Intervention so you can decide when the time comes.

  • Arm Thy Servant: Spawns a +3 Legendary Devotee’s Mace.
  • Opulent Revival: Revive all fallen allies within an 18m radius. Any nearby companion will receive the benefits of a long rest.
  • Sunder the Heretical: Deal 8d10 Radiant Damage to all enemies within a 15m radius. Any target that succeeds on a Wisdom saving throw will take half the damage.
  • Golden Generosity: Summons a chest nearby. Inside the chest are ten potions and 48 camp supplies.

When I played as Cleric, I went with the Arm Thy Servant Divine Intervention. I believe it to be the strongest out of the four. If you are still deciding which decision to make, you can always save your game before using it, reload the save file, and switch it up!

10 Best Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) Mods https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/best-baldurs-gate-3-bg3-mods/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/best-baldurs-gate-3-bg3-mods/#respond Tue, 09 Jan 2024 21:23:25 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=977430 Baldur’s Gate 3 is an impressive game with a wealth of content, but although it seems endless, it isn’t. For those seeking more, here are the 10 best mods that add an exciting new dimension to the game.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Fixer

Balsurs-Gate-3-Final-Art-1200x675-1
Image: Larian

The Baldur’s Gate 3 Mod Fixer is a mod that helps you add other mods to the game. Many mods were made for the early access version of BG3 and do not work with the full version of the game. The BG3 Mod Fixer ensures that mods made for early access will work with the fully released version.

Fantastical Multiverse

Image: Dungeons and Souls

If you feel that Baldur’s Gate 3 lacks sufficient customization options, the Fantastical Multiverse mod is for you. While Baldur’s Gate 3 is impressive and offers a lot for players, I found the customization options to be less complex than expected. This mod adds a variety of different ancestry options to enhance customization and allows you to create your character exactly as you want.

5e Spells

The 5e Spells mod is perfect for those who aren’t fond of D&D Fifth Edition and miss the presence of certain spells in their game. 5e Spells changes the way some spells work and adds new ones, providing an experience closer to what the tabletop game offers. This is a mod that will make Gale happy.

Carry Weight Increased

Image: Mharius

While not my favorite mod for normal gameplay, Carry Weight Increased is one I frequently use when I don’t want to go back and forth many times because I don’t have enough strength to carry items. This is especially useful when exploring or finding new outcomes in previously played quests. If you dislike the carry weight mechanic altogether, this mod is for you.

Customizer’s Compendium

Customizers-Compendium-Mod-Drow-in-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: AlanaSP

Much like the Fantastical Multiverse mod, the Customizer’s Compendium is for those who want more customization options in the game. However, this mode focuses on cosmetic choices, allowing players to use options that are otherwise limited to NPCs.

Level 20 (Multiclass)

Level-20-Multiclass-Mod-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: Malcroix

If you believe the level cap is unfair and you want to break the game, especially if you want to try outlandish multiclass builds, then the Level 20 Multiclass mod is for you. This mod allows you to level up to 20, but you will need to level up in different classes to reach the highest levels.

Party Limit Begone

This mod allows you to bring more allies with you at the same time. If you feel the game’s limit is unfair or if you simply want to bring more companions with you, this mod is a great choice. It also helps you explore more outcomes and dialogue options since you will have more characters with you.

EveryoneInDialogue

EveryoneInDialogue-Baldurs-Gate-3-Mod
Image: Silent Note

This is an excellent mod for discovering new story elements in the game. You don’t have to bring all your party members with you. Just install this mod, and it will treat each dialogue encounter as if all your party members are with you, so you won’t miss any particular plot point that requires the presence of one of your party members.

Demon Hunter Class – The Slayer of Illidari – BG3

Demon-Hunter-Mod-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: VivaSortiara

This mod is for those who appreciate the creativity and effort required to fully implement a class into this game. If you’re a fan of World of Warcraft and want to play as a demon hunter in Baldur’s Gate 3, this well-implemented mod is what you’re looking for.

Expansion (Bladesinger Only)

Sarins-Ghost
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

This is, by far, my favorite mod, and while not everyone may agree, I’m a sucker for Bladesingers. This mod allows me to play as a Bladesinger in Baldur’s Gate 3. Bladesingers have been awesome since they first appeared in Forgotten Realms. They are a bit overpowered in the fifth edition, but whether you like the fifth edition or not, you cannot deny that an elven wizard slashing and casting fireballs is the coolest thing ever.

Should You Kill Isobel in Baldur’s Gate 3? Consequences and Outcomes https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/should-you-kill-isobel-in-baldurs-gate-3-dark-urge-origin-guide/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/should-you-kill-isobel-in-baldurs-gate-3-dark-urge-origin-guide/#respond Tue, 09 Jan 2024 21:07:42 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=940755 Anyone who plays the Dark Urge in Baldur’s Gate 3 will be forced to make more than a few gruesome decisions during their playthrough. One of these choices is killing Isobel, a Cleric of Selune who resides in the Lost Light Inn.

This choice should not be made lightly, as killing Isobel will have a massive ripple effect on the rest of your adventure through the Sword Coast. This begs the question: is the reward you get for killing Isobel enough to outweigh its price? Here are the rewards and consequences of using your Dark Urge to kill Isobel in Baldur’s Gate 3.

What Happens if Your Dark Urge Kills Isobel in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Sceleritas-Fel-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: Larian Studios

After you’ve met Isobel and protected the Lost Light Inn from Flamming Fist Marcus and his Winged Horrors, your demented goblin butler Sceleritas Fel will appear to you in the night and ask you to kill her. To make this gruesome act of betrayal more appealing, Sceleritas promises you will receive a great reward.

Related: Should You Take the Dagger of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3?

If you feel conflicted about killing Isobel (like I was during my playthrough), you can get her opinion by talking to her and admitting your intentions. Noticing your hesitation, Isobel implores you to follow your conscience and fight the monster inside you. This is your last chance to back out of killing her, so consider your options carefully.

Fighting Isobel

Refusing to back down initiates a fight that pits you and your Companions against Isobel and all of the Harpers and Fists in the Inn. Isobel can deal quite a bit of damage with spells like Guiding Bolt, but she only has 52 HP, and killing her instantly ends the fight.

As a Storm Sorcerer, I was able to make quick work of her by spamming Lightning Bolt, but no class will have a particularly hard time killing her. On the other hand, her companions can cut you down pretty fast if they get close enough to attack you, so you’ll want to kill Isobel as fast as possible.

What Happens if You Kill Isobel?

Killing Isobel will cause the magical barrier she maintained around the Last Light Inn, allowing the Shadow Curse to seep in and turn most of the Inn’s inhabitants into hostile Undead. Jaheira will instantly confront you, and you can convince her that you weren’t responsible for Isobel’s death if you pass a fairly high Deception or Persuasion check.

Regardless of whether Jaheira believes your innocence, she will help you fight your way out of the Inn. There will be nineteen hostile Undead between you and safety, but they aren’t too hard to manage. I had Shadowheart with me during this encounter, and her Turn Undead ability made corraling the enemies into easily killable hordes easy.

Once you’ve dealt with the Undead, a bushel of Shadow Creepers will erupt from the ground and start attacking. These guys are much more challenging than your previous foes, but they can be dealt with if you focus your fire on them.

Does anyone else die if you kill Isobel?

The fall of the Lost Light Inn will result in the death of several quest-important NPCs, hindering your ability to clear their questlines or making them impossible to complete. Here’s a list of all the Quests that will be impacted by killing Isobel.

Once you’ve returned to your camp, Jahiera will once again confront you over Isobel’s death, and things will play out very differently depending on whether or not you convinced her you weren’t responsible for it. If she knows you did it, she will try and kill you on the spot. This shouldn’t be a hard fight since you’ll have your companions with you, and you won’t be able to recruit her or Minsc to your party.

Alternatively, if you convinced Jahiena that you didn’t kill Isobel, you can persuade her to stay in your camp by consoling her. This will cause her to be present during the battle against Ketheric Throm at the end of Act 2.

What Do You Get For Killing Isobel

For killing Isobel and condemning the Lost Light Inn to destruction, Sceleritas will bestow upon you the Slayer Form. A dark variant of the Druid’s Wild Shape, Slayer Form transforms you into a monstrous, crimson beast with 98 hit points and many deadly abilities.

Here is a rundown of all the Slayer Form’s abilities:

  • Let The Slaughter Begin – Allows you to Brand a target, Dazing them temporarily. If you manage to kill that target within four turns, the Slayer gains +1 AC.
  • Sumptuous Blood Bath – A strong melee attack that causes the target to Bleed. This will heal the Slayer.
  • Relentless Lunge – A leaping attack that consumes your Bonus Action and 3m of Movement Speed. It deals damage in a radius around your landing and may knock enemies prone.

The Slayer Form can be helpful in combat, especially if your Dark Urge is a spellcaster with little durability or martial options. However, embracing the form will make progressing several questlines near impossible, so it’s up to you to decide whether or not it’s worth it.

Should You Take the Dagger of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/should-you-take-the-dagger-of-shar-in-baldurs-gate-3/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/should-you-take-the-dagger-of-shar-in-baldurs-gate-3/#respond Mon, 08 Jan 2024 16:38:53 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=940687 The Baldur’s Gate 3 community will wonder if they should take the Ritual Dagger of Shar, and rightly so. Shar is a sinister goddess, and claiming her possessions might not be the wisest move.

This guide will tell you whether you should take the Dagger of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3.

What Happens if You Take the Dagger of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Ritual-Dagger-of-Shar
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

I recommend that you don’t take the Dagger of Shar if you don’t need a magic dagger. Doing so will spawn three very powerful enemies, each at level 7 with 120 HP. That said, if you have a rogue or another character who can benefit from a magic dagger, you should take the Ritual Dagger of Shar.

While not the best dagger in Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s a more than decent weapon at this point of the campaign. It’s a +1 Uncommon weapon that deals 1d4+1 piercing damage plus an additional 1d4 Necrotic Damage. Since it’s a magic dagger, throwing it at an enemy makes it return to your hand immediately after the attack.

Where to Find the Ritual Dagger of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3

You can find the Ritual Dagger of Shar in the Shadowlands during Act 2. After making your way to the end of the Sharran Sanctuary of the Cursed Lands and passing the three skill checks for a secret door, you will come across the Dagger of Shar. You then can take the Dagger of Shar from its pedestal and add it to your inventory.

I have found that you will have to be extremely careful with the enemies around the area. Considering that you will most likely be at this point in the game with low-level characters, you’re setting yourself up for failure right from the start.

Related: Should You Release the Pixie in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Not only are these enemies tough, but they also take almost zero damage. They all have the Shadow Condition, which makes them resistant to all damage that isn’t Force, Psychic, and Radiant. So unless you’re prepared for that specific type of battle, I would avoid it altogether. Instead, feel free to grab other items surrounding the Dagger of Shar while you’re in this area.

Sacrifice Blood at the Altar

Blood-Sacrifice-Shar
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

In the Sharran Sanctuary, besides having the chance to steal the dagger, you can also sacrifice blood to the Altar. This is an intelligent choice, as doing so will improve your relationship with Shadowheart. Additionally, you will be rewarded with scrolls and potions to help you on your adventure.

To sacrifice blood to the Altar, all you need to do is approach the Altar and interact with it. Then, choose to offer blood using the Ritual Dagger on the bowl. It’s that easy! Now that you know if you should take the Dagger of Shar in Baldur’s Gate 3, you can jump into the game again and make the choice.

Balsam Ointment Riddle Solution in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3) – Search the Cellar https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/balsam-ointment-riddle-solution-in-baldurs-gate-3-bg3-search-the-cellar/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/balsam-ointment-riddle-solution-in-baldurs-gate-3-bg3-search-the-cellar/#respond Fri, 05 Jan 2024 21:06:08 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=977039 Larian’s Baldur’s Gate 3 is packed with surprises and references, including a magical mirror riddle. If you’re looking for the solution to the Balsam Ointment riddle, you’ve come to the right place.

It’s truly amazing how much content you can discover in BG3. The more you play, the more you realize the vast amount to be found, including a secret laboratory behind a magic mirror under a raided town.

All Correct Answers to the Magic Mirror’s Questions in BG3

When the Magic Mirror asks, “Tell me, why might one use Balsam Ointment?” the solution to this riddle is “To clean a wound.” Once answered, the Magic Mirror will move on to its fifth and final question.

In case you need help on that additional question, below you’ll find every riddle answer to all five of the Magic Mirror’s questions.

QuestionAnswer
Speak your name.“You should just answer with your name here.”
If you are known to my master, step forward and declare yourself as an ally.“Yes, an ally! I’m an ally of your masters.”
What do you think of the Zulkir known as Szass Tam?“Szass Tam is a foul, wretched creature. A foul lich. May he die a thousand more deaths.”
Tell me, why might one use Balsam Ointment?“To clean a wound.”
If you could see anything in me, what would it be?Here you can insert pretty much anything except for “I’d see my enemies suffering” and “I’d see the ones I love”.

Related: 5 Strongest Baldur’s Gate 3 Multiclass Combinations

Denouncing Szass Tam, the Lich Zulkir, is the simplest and most straightforward way to pass through and get to the other side. After that, you’ll have the opportunity to explore a sinister laboratory. However, this is not the only way to be granted passage. You can also try to intimidate the mirror. It won’t be easy, but it will let you through if you succeed.

The room behind the mirror contains artifacts and books. This secret area appears to have belonged to a necromancer who had a disdain for Szass Tam, or maybe someone who studied necromancy to combat the Red Wizards of Thay. Regardless, you may find valuable items, such as an ancient evil tome.

How to Intimidate the Mirror in Baldur’s Gate 3

Intimidate-Magic-Mirror-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

To intimidate the mirror, choose the [Intimidation] option once you’ve stated your name. When the mirror says “If you are known to my master, step forward and declare yourself an ally,” select the third option: “Open or I’ll smash you to pieces – bad luck be damned.”

While it may sound straightforward, you need to pass a Difficult Class 15 Intimidation Check, which is quite easy to fail and an unnecessary risk. If you choose this path, consider selecting a character who is not only trained in Intimidation but also has a high Charisma Ability Score. If the dice gods decide to help you on this one, the mirror will vanish, unveiling a passage to the laboratory.

Best Baldur’s Gate 3 Sorlock Multiclass Build https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/best-baldurs-gate-3-sorlock-multiclass-build/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/best-baldurs-gate-3-sorlock-multiclass-build/#respond Wed, 03 Jan 2024 20:23:48 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=976687 The Sorlock Multiclass is a powerful multiclass build from D&D 5th Edition that works just as well in Baldur’s Gate 3. It combines the best of the Sorcerer and Warlock classes into a single synergistic blaster character.

How to Build a Sorlock in Baldur’s Gate 3

Combining Sorcerer and Warlock levels is how you get one of the strongest multiclass builds in BG3 since Charisma is your main ability as it is used by both Warlocks and Sorcerers. The rest is about finding synergy with everything else to make sure you don’t waste any Ability points or levels.

First Level and Level Progression

Sorcerer-BG3
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Your goal is to achieve the first two levels of the Warlock class and the first three of the Sorcerer class. The class you choose first determines your Saving Throw proficiency. Choosing Sorcerer first will grant you better Constitution saving throws, while starting as a level 1 Warlock will give you better Wisdom saving throws.

Related: How to Get the Infernal Robe in Baldur’s Gate 3

Pick the Fiend subclass for extra Temporary Hit Points and Draconic Bloodline for its defensive features. You’re also going to select the Quicken Spell Metamagic for the infamous Eldritch Blast Metamagic combo.

The Best Race for Sorlocks

Sorcerer-Class
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Honestly, the choice of race doesn’t make a huge difference in Baldur’s Gate 3. There’s no choice here that will hinder your progression in any noticeable way, but races that grant a +2 to an Ability might be good to max your charisma early. That said, some races don’t work that well. For instance, high elves get a cantrip, but you need intelligence to cast it.

That said, there’s always a way to optimize your choices. if you choose Tiefling, you will benefit from the Infernal Legacy, which is a Charisma-based ability. There’s also some pretty good utility from Githyanki Psionics. Drows also use Charisma for their Drow Magic feature.

Best Cantrips and Spells

The choice of higher-level spells will depend on the direction you wish to take with this build. If you want to go for a blaster build with lots of Eldritch Blasts, just take two levels as Warlock and go full Sorcerer then. It’s pretty easy to manage this build. Pick your favorite spells and use meta magic to increase the number of spells you can cast or quicken your spells and cast a bunch of Eldritch Blasts.

Alternatively, if you’re interested in exploring the powers of the Fiend Patron and taking advantage of the Warlock’s twice-per-combat maxed spell-casting, you might consider spells like Hunger of Hadar. Be sure to use the Thirsting Blade feature of the Warlock, and aim to reach the third level as a Sorcerer for the Quicken Spell and Twin Spell Metamagics.

  • Sorcerer Cantrips: Fire Bolt, Shocking Grasp
  • Sorcerer Spells: Firebolt, Shocking Grasp, Shield, Thunderwave
  • Warlock Cantrips: Eldritch Blast
  • Warlock Spells: Eldritch Blast, Armor of Agathys, Arms of Hadar, Hex

Attack of the Fanboy’s Game of the Year 2023 https://attackofthefanboy.com/articles/attack-of-the-fanboys-game-of-the-year-2023/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/articles/attack-of-the-fanboys-game-of-the-year-2023/#respond Fri, 22 Dec 2023 23:05:13 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=976069 2023 was an exceptional year for video games. We got a huge mix of highly-anticipated sequels and breakout hits that made it hard to keep up with everything that came out. This year, it felt like there was a new hot game that came out of nowhere every other week. No matter your taste in games, there was something for you to play.

This year, quantity matched quality. Sure, there were a few standout stinkers like The Day Before, but practically everything that came out this year could have made the list of contenders for someone’s game of the year. The Attack of the Fanboy team certainly had differing opinions on 2023’s best, but we ultimately came together to decide on the best games of the year.

Honorable Mention: Spider-Man 2

Marvels-Spider-Man-2-review
Image: Insomniac Games

Even in a year loaded with some of the most inventive games in recent memory, you just can’t beat the classics. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a somewhat safe sequel, but it’s packed with even more love and care for the character than the first game. In our review, we wrote “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 takes the exact formula from the first games and improves upon it thanks to better UI, better villains, a better story, a bigger world, Web Wings, and two Spider-Men. Though the combat is still repetitive, this is peak Spider-Man.”

This game is yet another example of why Insomniac Games is one of the most talented development studios in the industry. It’s able to expand upon ideas that most thought were played out and deepen mechanics that had seemingly reached their peak. The traversal and combat mechanics are so good in Spider-Man 2 that they make it hard to revisit the first game, and that’s an achievement all on its own.

Honorable Mention: Starfield

Starfield-Poster
Image: Bethesda Softworks

There’s a lot that can be said about Bethesda’s highly-anticipated space RPG Starfield. Discourse aside, Starfield is a reminder of why the Bethesda RPG formula is so beloved. The game also has some interesting ideas about blending its narrative and gameplay mechanics, and while not everything lands, it’s hard not to love Starfield for what it tries to do.

In our review of Starfield, we wrote “It would not be a stretch to say this could be one of the most ambitious games ever made, and that it followed through with many of those goals with relatively low compromise. For those fearing this game was Bethesda flying too close to the sun, this is a reminder that this same ambition, mixed with lots of caution and expertise, is also what put us on the moon.”

Game of the Year Runner-Up: Alan Wake 2

Alan-Wake-2-Review
Image: Remedy Entertainment

Who would’ve thought that a sequel over a decade in the making would end up becoming one of the most beloved games of the year? In our review of Alan Wake 2, we wrote “Alan Wake 2 is an ambitious, shockingly loaded, and intense sequel. It’s clear why Sam Lake considered this to be his passion project. Lake, along with Kyle Rowley, has successfully directed a tremendous game, with particular highlights being the visual storytelling, the visuals themselves, and the deliberate nature of Alan Wake 2’s gameplay.”

Alan Wake 2 is an exceptionally interesting multimedia experiment that draws influence from everything and everywhere in a way only video games can. While it doesn’t land every one of its punches, the game has so much character, charm, and personality that it’s hard not to think of the game as an old friend after the credits roll.

Attack of the Fanboy GOTY 2023: Baldur’s Gate 3

Baldurs-Gate-3-Deluxe-Edition-Worth-It
Image: Larian Studios Games

2023 was such a standout year that most people had their GOTYs locked in by the first half of the year. Then Baldur’s Gate 3 happened. While Larian’s ambitious sequel began life in early access three years ago (on both Steam and Google Stadia, to put the timeline in perspective), nobody could have predicted the absolute chokehold it would have on the gaming industry at the time of its full release.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a testament to why we love video games. It offers an unprecedented amount of player freedom and choice, with the developers creating instances so specific and branching paths so large that they would give any project manager a heart attack. Not only does Baldur’s Gate 3 outclass other games in the genre (which already offer spectacular levels of choice and freedom), but it also marries that freedom with insanely high production value and a budget that is unheard of for games like this.

It’s a game that we reviewed twice (on both PC and PlayStation 5) and gave a perfect score to both times. That should say enough about the game’s quality, but a 5-star review doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of how great Baldur’s Gate 3 is.

Above all else, Baldur’s Gate was a risk. It was a risk taken by people who love video games, a risk taken by people who know what this medium is capable of. Its influence will be felt throughout video games for the next few decades. Baldur’s Gate 3 is lightning in a bottle, and it’s unlikely that we’ll see anything like it for quite some time.

How to Hide Armor, Helmets, and Cloaks in Baldur’s Gate 3 https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/how-to-hide-armor-helmets-and-cloaks-in-baldurs-gate-3/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/how-to-hide-armor-helmets-and-cloaks-in-baldurs-gate-3/#respond Mon, 11 Dec 2023 18:10:20 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=939635 Did you find a shiny new piece of armor only to have your excitement crushed when you equipped it and saw how ugly it makes your character? Here’s an easy-to-follow guide on how to hide armor, helmets, and cloaks in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Hide Your Armor and Helmet on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in Baldur’s Gate 3

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S owners will have an especially easy time when they want to hide their helmet or armor in Baldur’s Gate 3. Just do the following:

  1. Hit RT/R2 to open the Radial Menu
  2. Tilt your left stick up and select the Character Sheet option
  3. Select your Helmet or armor piece and move to its block to the right in your equipment
  4. Press ‘Y’ or ‘Triangle’ to hide the Helmet during dialogue, or again to hide it entirely
    • If you move to other spots on your equipment menu, you can press ‘Y’ or ‘Triangle’ to toggle your overclothes to show instead of your armor

Here’s how to hide the helmet in Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC:

  1. Open your Inventory or Character Sheet
  2. Hover your mouse over your Helmet slot
  3. A small box will appear above the Helmet slot
    • The toggle box won’t be visible unless you hover your mouse over the Helmet slot.
  4. Toggle until you find the option you want:
    • Hide Helmet: This option will hide your helmet 100% of the time.
    • Hide During Dialogues: This option only hides your helmet during dialogue scenes.

It is essential to know that the Toggle Armour Set Visibility setting will override your Helmet visibility settings, so if you can’t get your helmet to come back, check the Toggle Armour Visibility settings, which we will discuss below.

Unfortunately, outside of your helmet, it is only possible to hide all your armor simultaneously. There is no way to hide individual pieces of armor.

Here is how to hide armor and cloaks in Baldur’s Gate 3:

  1. Open your Inventory or Character Sheet
  2. Click the Toggle Armour Visibility square above the Overclothes slot.
    • For instance, my character started the game with Homely Clothes
  3. Toggle until you find the option you want:
    • Default: The default option is what you want if you want all of your armor to show.
    • Camp: The camp option will remove your armor and leave you in your character in their Overclothes only.

If you want your character to be naked, you need to toggle to the Camp option and then unequip your character’s Overclothes, Shoes, and Underwear (marked in the red box above). Remember that you will see your character’s genitalia if that option is enabled in the in-game settings, making your character NSFW. Otherwise, your character will still look naked but have their bits covered up.

Author’s Note: I wrote this guide while playing Baldur’s Gate 3 on my Lenovo gaming laptop and the Xbox Series X.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Fighter Level 1

At level 1, Fighters can choose a Fighting Style that will dictate their overall playstyle. There are 6 Fighting Styles in total, and each of them is listed below.

  • Archery
  • Defense
  • Dueling
  • Great Weapon Fighting
  • Protection
  • Two-Weapon Fighting

Your Fighting Style will give you a bonus to attack rolls with your chosen weapon or grant you additional defense if you choose something like Protection. It doesn’t lock you into using that weapon type though, so feel free to experiment during your playthrough.

For instance, if you choose Dueling, which favors only having a weapon in one hand and nothing in the other, you can still equip a shield when you need some extra protection.

Fighters also start with Second Wind at level 1, one of their best abilities at low levels. It allows you to heal yourself using a Bonus Action, basically serving as a free potion that refreshes with every short rest. Use this to empower yourself whether charging into battle or staying open enough to keep raining pain on the enemies.

Level 2

At level 2, Fighters unlock their defining ability: Action Surge. This lets you take an additional Action on your turn after every short rest. Whether you use that additional Action to smite your foes or help an ally after they’ve been knocked down, the extra utility is beyond useful.

Level 3

Level 3 is the most important level for every Baldur’s Gate 3 class since you unlock your Subclass at that level. Fighters are no exception, and they can choose between the following three Subclasses.

  • Battle Master
  • Eldritch Knight
  • Champion

Each of these Subclasses will grant you additional rewards as you level up. You’ll still get everything from the baseline Fighter progression list, but each Subclass has its unique abilities on top of those. If you regret your Subclass decision down the line, seek out Withers to respec your character.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Battle Master Fighter Subclass

On the surface level, the Battle Master Subclass is best for close combat specialist Fighters. They gain Superiority Dice which can be spent during combat to perform special actions called Manoeuvres during combat. Here’s what Battle Master progression looks like.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Battle Master Subclass LevelSubclass Feature(s) Unlocked
Level 3Superiority Dice: 4 (Subclass Feature)
Choose 3 Manoeuvres (Feature)
Level 7Superiority Dice: 1 (Subclass Feature)
Choose 2 Manoeuvres (Subclass Feature)
Level 10Improved Combat Superiority (Subclass Feature)
Level 11Choose 2 Manoeuvres (Subclass Feature)

Baldur’s Gate 3 Eldritch Knight Fighter Subclass

An Eldritch Knight can cast spells while still keeping their feet planted firmly on the front lines. As the name suggests, this is the magic-based Fighter Subclass. They’re a Fighter/Warlock hybrid, similar to a battlemage or magus in concept. Here’s what progression looks like for an Eldritch Knight.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Eldritch Knight Subclass Level
Level 3Spellcasting (Subclass Feature)
Level 7Weapon Bond (Subclass Action)
Level 10Eldritch Strike (Subclass Feature)

Baldur’s Gate 3 Champion Fighter Subclass

The Champion Subclass is for Fighters who don’t want to think too hard about combat. It just improves everything you’ve already gotten used to doing at this point, boosting your critical hit rate and enhancing your physical abilities. Here’s what a Champion gets as they level up.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Champion Subclass LevelSubclass Feature(s) Unlocked
Level 3Improved Critical Hit (Subclass Feature)
Level 7Remarkable Athlete: Proficiency (Subclass Feature)
Remarkable Athlete: Jump (Subclass Feature)

As you can see, this favors a simplistic, mobile, damage-enhancing fighting machine build.

Level 4

Baldurs-Gate-3-Fighter-Progression-Level-4
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

At level 4, you get to choose a Feat. This is a passive ability that can grant you proficiency with new types of armor or weapons or give you new abilities during combat. It’s pretty flexible depending on your subclass. For instance, an Eldritch Knight might benefit from Elemental Adept: Lightning! You’ll get to choose more from the same list later, so don’t think too hard about this decision for now.

Level 5

At level 5, Fighters unlock the Extra Attack ability which allows them to perform an additional Main Hand Attack or similar ability during their turn if they land a hit on an enemy. It’s a super useful skill to have but you get these with any class.

Level 6

At level 6, you get another Feat from the same list you chose from at level 4. You should have a better idea of your playstyle by now, so give the choice a little more thought this time. For instance, Champions can put in some work with the Great Weapon Master Feat!

Level 7

Level 7 is a stopgap, and you won’t get anything beyond the usual HP and stat increases.

Level 8

At level 8, the Fighter can take yet another Feat. If you’re a Battle Master, you might consider the Weapon Master Feat if you don’t have it already.

Level 9

Laezel-badass-pose

At level 9, Fighters learn the Indomitable feature. This allows you to reroll a Saving Throw whenever you fail one, which is a situational but useful ability, especially with all the Illithid mind control going on in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Level 10

Fighters can choose a second Fighting Style at level 10, which is a huge boon. It’s the same list as the one from character creation, so try to choose one that synergizes with the one you already have.

Level 11

At level 11, Fighters unlock the Improved Extra Attack feature. This is an upgrade to Extra Attack from level 5, letting you make two additional attacks per turn for a total of three.

Level 12

Finally, your reward for reaching the level cap as a Fighter is one more feat. Sadly, there’s not a huge game-changing ability for reaching level 12. However, you’ll be more than powerful enough to vanquish your foes if you’ve got the right build at this point.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Honor Mode Explained https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-honor-mode-explained/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-honor-mode-explained/#respond Tue, 05 Dec 2023 17:12:34 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=971814 Patch 5 for Baldur’s Gate 3 is here, adding an expansive epilogue, two game modes, bug fixes, and more! One of these new game modes is Honor Mode, a challenging and exciting new way to play. Here are all the details of the new mode!

What is Honor Mode in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Honor Mode is a brand new mode for those looking for an even tougher-than-tactician experience. Similar to other hardcore modes, you’ll encounter stronger and smarter enemies while avoiding a run-ending total party kill. If you manage to complete the game, you’ll be rewarded with a coveted achievement and a gold skin for your D20!

What Does Honor Mode Change?

BG3_Honour_Mode_Details
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Stronger Bosses

Bosses are more powerful, adding new abilities, mechanics, and Legendary Actions. If you’re unfamiliar with DND, Legendary Actions are powerful abilities or actions used by the toughest of foes. Expect boss fights, like the Phase Spider Matriarch and Grym, to be more challenging and require strategic planning.

Stricter Rules

Like Tactician mode, but harder! You’ll find the game’s rules, like action economy, to be stricter. For example, no free first strikes to initiate combat — those will count as actions taken for your turn. These stricter game rules encourage players to use actions and resources strategically.

Single Save File

Forgot an item in Act 1? Want to re-do a roll you made a few dialogue options ago? You have one save file slot, so there’s no going back! This discourages save-scumming — the process of reloading saves to re-do rolls when you fail a check or dislike a certain outcome.

Hardcore

If your entire party dies, your Honor Mode run is over. Since completing this game is a monumental task, if you do die, you will still be able to continue your game in Custom Mode. However, this will not count as completing the game in Honor Mode, and you will not earn the “Foehammer” achievement or the Golden D20.

Honor Mode is not for the weak — with stronger enemies, more difficult encounters, one save file, and high stakes, Honor Mode is for the experienced and determined. Since Honor Mode requires starting a new game, check out our other Baldur’s Gate 3 guides to make sure you’re not missing anything on your new adventure.

Good luck out there!

All Custom Mode Options in Baldur’s Gate 3 https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/all-custom-mode-options-in-baldurs-gate-3/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/all-custom-mode-options-in-baldurs-gate-3/#respond Mon, 04 Dec 2023 16:10:45 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=971369 Explorer too easy? Tactician too hard? Not to worry! Baldur’s Gate 3 now has Custom Mode, allowing you to tweak a ton of settings to craft your perfect mode. Here’s every option in the new Custom Mode for Baldur’s Gate 3.

All BG3 Custom Mode Options

Single Save

On or off. Only one save slot. No separate saves, so no going back to a decision you made a few hours ago. This setting cannot be changed when the custom game starts.

Enemy Aggression

Explorer, Balanced, or Tactician. Explorer enemies will be easier, whereas Tactician enemies will be ruthless!

Character Power

Explorer, Balanced, or Tactician. Want to feel like a God? Explorer makes characters and allies more powerful, while Tactician ensures enemies are a much more daunting fight. Balanced keeps allies and enemies at the same level of strength.

Enemy Loadouts

Explorer, Balanced, or Tactician. Explorer allows enemies to have basic spells and items. Tactician allows them to cast complicated spells and use advanced items. Again, Balanced is the middle of these two options.

Additional Combat Mechanics

Explorer, Balanced, or Tactician. If you want additional mechanics for your fights, making enemies tougher and requiring you to strategize, choose Tactician! If you’re feeling like combat is a bit too difficult or complicated, you can go the Explorer route.

Proficiency Bonus

-1 to +4. Adjusts the proficiency bonus for all characters, making some rolls more difficult or much easier.

Enemy Critical Hits

On or off. Determines whether enemies are allowed to make critical hits. Off is easier, and on is harder.

No Death Saving Throws

On or off. If on, player characters will not die at 0 HP. They will remain stabilized until helped up.

Disable Free First Strikes

On or off. If on, attacks used to initiate combat will count as an action for your turn. If off, attacks used to initiate combat will not count as your action in combat and, therefore, are “free.”

Camp Cost Multiplier

0.5 to 3. This multiplies how many camp supplies are required for a full rest each night.

Short Rest Full Heal

On or off. If on, a short rest will fully restore you and your companions’ health.

Trader Price Modifier

1 to 4. Trader prices are multiplied by this number, and the money you receive for items is divided by this number.

Multiclassing

On or off. Determines whether choosing an additional class at level-up, or multiclassing, is allowed. This setting cannot be changed when the custom game starts.

Always Prompt Reactions

On or off. If on, reactions will take place and “pause” the game by default.

Hide NPC Health

On or off. If on, you will only see the health of player-controlled characters.

Hide Failed Perception Rolls

On or off. If off, failed perception rolls will no longer notify you that there was something you missed — if you fail, you won’t even know there was a roll in the first place!

Hide Passive Rolls in Dialogues

On or off. If off, the game will not let you know whether you have passed or failed a passive roll in dialogue. Used when making rolls like passive history checks.

Preview Dialogue Check Difficulty Before Rolling

On or off. If on, the game will allow you to preview the difficulty of an ability or skill check before you commit to the dialogue option.

Hide Difficulty Class During Rolls

On or off. Want to add some suspense to your rolls? If on, this setting will hide the required number, or difficulty class, of rolls made for ability and skill checks.

Should I Play Custom Mode?

Custom mode does not affect the story or your achievements, so there are no big downsides to selecting custom mode. However, it is recommended to go with a premade difficulty, such as Explorer, Balanced, or Tactician, for your first run-through, as these changes can seriously affect your gameplay. Luckily, you’re able to re-balance a majority of them throughout the custom game. If you know what you’re doing and know what you like, try out custom mode! For players new to Baldur’s Gate 3, you should probably try out a pre-made option to get a smooth, balanced experience.

Despite its source material not being the most intricate TTRPG available, Baldur’s Gate 3 remains a fairly complex RPG. Not only do you have many ways to solve situations, but you have countless ways to build your character. Here are some of the best multiclass combinations in the game.

The 5 Best Multiclass Builds in BG3

Barbarian / Paladin

Custom-Hireling-1
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Barbarians don’t scale well but do have amazing abilities at early levels. Combining the Barbarian’s rage with the Paladin’s Divine Smite spells is what makes this multiclass damage so significantly powerful. Besides, the combination of the Barbarian’s rage and the Paladin’s Lay on Hands provides a significant boost to your character’s survivability. Just be careful since the only spell you can use when raging is the Divine Smite.

Druid / Wizard

Halsin
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

This is the ultimate summoner’s build in Baldur’s Gate 3. You will have access to arcane and natural spells. But going for the Circle of the Spores and Necromancy School allows you to have access to Zombies, Skeletons, and Fungal Zombies. You can use a swarm of allied undead creatures to overwhelm your adversaries, allowing your party to flank them or safely finish them off from a distance. Just be careful about your Ability scores. You will need both Wisdom and Intelligence for this build.

Warlock / Fighter

Wyll-Warlock-AOTF
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Also known as the Swordlock, this build creates a versatile warrior. You can use heavy swords with high damage due to the Warlock’s Pact of the Blade and the Fighter’s Great Weapon Fighting style. Another intriguing aspect of this combination is the multitude of abilities your character recovers after a Short Rest. You will get back all your spell slots, Action Surge, and Second Wind.

Fighter / Wizard

Laezel-cover
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

This build is just a better version of the Eldritch Knight. You will have high burst damage thanks to wizard spells, more utility thanks to Ritual Spells, more durability thanks to the Fighter’s higher hit points and Armor Proficiency, and will be able to buff yourself with utility spells so you can fight more efficiently. An alternative version of this build is the ranged Fighter / Wizard, which allows you to use many spells for repositioning and crowd control while dealing good amounts of damage with arrows.

Sorcerer / Warlock

Sorcerer-BG3
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

With this build, you will combine versatility with consistency. Not only will you have access to the Sorcerer’s Megamagic, but you will also be able to recover spell slots after each short rest. On top of that, you also can get the Pact of the Blade to be able to fight at melee range. This way, your character becomes more reliable at all distances. Not only that, both the Sorcerer and the Warlock use Charisma as their main Ability, allowing you to multiclass without much trouble.

If you want to please her, you better learn all that she likes and dislikes in Baldur’s Gate 3.

This half-elf druid fighter is an iconic character in the Baldur’s Gate franchise. Not only did Jaheira remain one of the most known names of the coast sword, but she actually saved Faerûn more than once. If you intend to get to her good side, there are many things about her you should learn.

How to Increase Jaheira’s Approval in Baldur’s Gate 3

Jaheera-AOTF-BG3
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Jaheira is a classic hero, and as such, she values bravery and virtue. Following that same logic, she will dislike when you perform evil deeds or act cowardly.

Jaheira’s Likes

  • Sparing or saving lives.
  • Making just decisions.
  • Helping those in need.
  • Displaying courage or valor.
  • Avoiding unnecessary violence.
  • Being truthful.

Jaheira’s Dislikes

  • Killing innocent NPCs.
  • Making unjust choices.
  • Engaging in evil acts.
  • Lying unnecessarily or for selfish reasons.

Related: Baldur’s Gate 3 Shadowheart Approval and Romance Guide | Likes, Dislikes, and Dialogue Choices

How to Romance Jaheira

You can’t romance Jaheira in Baldur’s Gate 3. Unfortunately for her fans from previous games who have romanced her before, the half-elf heroin was not included in the list of characters that you can have a fling with in this game. Considering that Jaheira is a well-established hero who is part of the lore and has achieved the status of legend, it makes sense that she’d be left out this time.

Maintaining Jaheira’s approval and making her trust you ultimately depends on your ability to comprehend her character and make decisions that are consistent with her values and lifestyle. She is a harper, and she is a world savior, so it makes sense that she values good deeds and courage. While she may not be an option for romance in Baldur’s Gate 3, her robust personality and profound respect for nature render her an invaluable ally on your journey.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Halsin Approval and Romance Guide | Likes, Dislikes, and Dialogue Choices https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-halsin-approval-and-romance-guide-likes-dislikes-and-dialogue-choices/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-halsin-approval-and-romance-guide-likes-dislikes-and-dialogue-choices/#respond Thu, 23 Nov 2023 19:13:00 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=966952 Baldur’s Gate 3 has the most in-depth RPG system that allows you to create genuine companionship throughout your journey. Romancing can be challenging, especially with characters like Halsin, so use this guide to learn about his dislikes, likes, and how to romance him in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Increase Halsin’s Approval in Baldur’s Gate 3

Before you can romance Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must understand his likes and dislikes to raise his Approval rating. In the following two sections, you will learn about Halsin as a character and how to increase the Approval Rating to romance him at the end of the game. Remember, if you mess up and do something Halsin doesn’t like, it is possible to recover by focusing extra hard on his likes when the opportunity presents itself.

Halsin’s Likes

Considering Halsin is a Druid, it is essential to accept the Druid beliefs and show that through dialogue options when speaking to him. Halsin is also a huge fan of nature, so if you ever interact with nature throughout your journey, don’t go out of your way to disrupt it, or your approval rating will decrease. This goes hand in hand with animals, where you must show the utmost respect to any wildlife, putting you in a good light in Halsin’s eyes.

Lastly, Halsin is generally just a very good guy and prefers people the same way. Whenever Halsin is in your party, make sure you are kind to the people you speak with and show acts of heroism.

To recap, here’s what you should prioritize to make Halsin like you and raise his Approval Rating:

  • Show respect for his Druidic beliefs.
  • Respect nature.
  • Be kind to animals.
  • Show acts of heroism and kindness.

Halsin’s Dislikes

Halsin’s dislikes are straightforward, as they are the opposite of his likes. For example, don’t show any disrespect to the druids and their beliefs, or else Halsin’s Approval rating for you will plummet. On the other hand, if the player randomly chooses actions that harm nature and the animals that inhabit it, Halsin will start to dislike you for your cruelty.

Speaking of cruelty, random acts of cruelty toward other characters and NPC, such as intimidation and torture, will have Druid disliking you strongly for being a terrible person. Always be on your best behavior when Halsin is in your party.

To recap, make sure to avoid the following so Halsin won’t dislike you:

  • Don’t disrespect Druids and their beliefs.
  • Don’t Harm nature and the animals.
  • Don’t do random acts of cruelty towards other humans.

Act 1 Romance Choices

While players can’t romance Halsin in the first act of Baldur’s Gate 3, you can make a few choices that can help with romancing him down the line. First, make sure to side with the Druids during the Grove quest line. This is very important since if the player sides with the Goblins instead of the Druids, then this will completely lock the player out from romancing Halsin later in the game.

Once you rescue Halsin from the Goblin Camp, enjoy the celebration at your camp and speak to Halsin afterward. You can then invite Halsin to stay at your camp, to which he will agree and act as your guide to the Moonrise Towers.

It also goes without saying, but make sure you don’t kill Halsin when you have the chance to meet him initially. I recommend creating an extra save file before the Grove quest line so you can restart if you make a mistake and accidentally kill him or if he dies during battle. This happened to me when I was locked out of Halsin entirely and had to start over due to not creating an extra save file.

This is all you need to do in Act 1 to increase your chances of romancing Halsin later in the game. Now, move on to act two for the following steps.

Related: Baldur’s Gate 3 Lae’zel Approval and Romance Guide | Likes, Dislikes, and Dialogue Choices

Act 2 Romance Choices

Players can’t romance Halsin in Act Two of Baldur’s Gate 3, but like Act One, they need to make the right choices to increase chances down the line. It is essential to progress through the “Lift the Shadow Curse” quest until you can recruit Halsin.

After recruiting Halsin, continue the quest until it’s 100% complete. It’s essential to complete the “Lift the Shadow Curse” quest because if you don’t and instead only recruit Halsin, you lock yourself out of romancing him. To do this, you must lift the Shadow Curse by uniting Thaniel’s two halves and killing Ketheric Thorm.

To summarize, follow these steps:

  1. Recruit Halsin during the Lift the Shadow Curse quest.
  2. Complete the Lift the Shadow Curse quest.
  3. Lift the Shadow Curse by uniting Thaniel’s two halves and killing Ketheric Thorm.

Act 3 Romance Choices

Now that you have followed this guide to Act Three of Baldur’s Gate 3, you can finally start romancing Halsin. Once you complete the Wyrm Crossing section of Act Three, you will receive a prompt to speak to Halsin at your camp. Follow the dialogue options below when speaking to Halsin:

  • What are you saying exactly?
  • Many lovers? Perhaps your heart stirs more easily than you think.
  • I thought you were bound to nature.

Once you have completed the interaction, go to your bedroll and rest for a moment. Halsin will then shift back into his bear form, where you will open up another dialogue option interaction. First, you will have two options: “I’m flattered I have that effect on you. Now come here.” Or, you can choose the longer and more detailed route through the options listed below.

  • Don’t apologize, I like it.
  • Yes. Change back again. Let me have the beast, and the beast have me.
  • Large is what I’m here for
  • Imagine we’re back in the woods, and I’m your prey.

Now, it is important to know that Halsin is okay with Polygomy, but your other partner may not be. This means that (if you are dating someone else) you may have to end the relationship with your partner to complete the romance section with Halsin.

Congratulations, you have successfully romanced Halsin in Baldur’s Gate 3. Remember, as you progress through the game, follow the likes and dislikes section to a tea, and don’t do anything to make Halsin hate you. Otherwise, you won’t be able to romance him.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Wyll Approval and Romance Guide | Likes, Dislikes, and Dialogue Choices https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-wyll-approval-and-romance-guide-likes-dislikes-and-dialogue-choices/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-wyll-approval-and-romance-guide-likes-dislikes-and-dialogue-choices/#respond Thu, 23 Nov 2023 16:30:00 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=967031 With Baldur’s Gate 3 complex romance system, knowing how to end up with your favorite characters in the game can be difficult. In this guide, we will walk you through how to romance Wyll by covering his likes, dislikes, and walkthroughs for each act in the game.

How to Increase Wyll’s Approval in Baldur’s Gate 3

To romance a character in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must get their Approval rating up first and foremost. This can be done by understanding the likes and dislikes of the character in question, for example, Wyll. Wyll is a heroic character who loves helping others and has a strong hate towards monsters. In the following two sections, let’s deeply review Wyll’s likes and dislikes.

Wyll’s Likes

The best way to increase Wyll’s approval rating is by showing heroism and completing good deeds for others. Considering Wyll talks about his care for people, one of his biggest likes is when others show that they care for the little guy. Always show heroism and kindness when dealing with any character when Wyll is joined in your party.

Show your hate towards monsters, goblins, and devils whenever possible. Wyll strongly dislikes these creatures, so you will significantly increase your approval rating with him when you show the same. This is a great way to align your beliefs with Wyll, which will help big time when it comes to romancing him.

Lastly, during Gale’s personal quest, there will come a time when the player has a chance to side with Wyll. While it isn’t mandatory, siding with Wyll will make romancing him much easier when the time comes.

To recap, follow the guidelines below to make Wyll like you:

  • Show heroism and complete good deeds.
  • Show your hate and dislike towards monsters, goblins, and devils.
  • Side with Wyll during Gale’s personal quest.

Wyll’s Dislikes

With Wyll being heroic, you need to follow in his footsteps and not commit any evil deeds. This is very simple, as all you need to do is focus on what’s morally and ethically correct. If you commit evil acts just for the sake of it, Wyll will start to dislike you, and the approval rating will go down.

Another way to lower the approval rating with Wyll is by showing signs of selfishness and focusing only on yourself. He dislikes those who show signs of not caring about others, so make sure to put others ahead of yourself to gain the approval of Wyll.

As previously mentioned, Wyll despises monsters, devils, and goblins. In no circumstances should you show signs that you approve of these creatures, or Wyll will start to dislike you, ruining your chances of romancing him during your playthrough.

Lastly, ensure you don’t side with Mizora, a character that Wyll doesn’t particularly like. Make sure you side with Wyll over Mizora whenever you can, and don’t even think about getting into a relationship with her. If you enter a relationship with Mizora, your chances of romancing Wyll are ruined.

To recap, make sure you avoid the following so Wyll doesn’t dislike you:

  • Don’t do any evil deeds.
  • Don’t show any signs of selfishness, and make sure to think of others.
  • Don’t engage in cruel behavior.
  • Don’t side with Mizora.

Act 1 Romance Choices

To start the romancing process with Wyll, the player must complete the Druid’s Grove questline in Act One of Baldur’s Gate 3. Before starting the quest, ensure your approval rating is high with Wyll by speaking to him and choosing options that align with his likes. During the Druid Grove quest, rescue Halsin and the refugees and then rest at your camp.

During the celebration with the refugees, a prompt will appear to talk to Wyll. Speak to him and choose anything for the first two options until he starts to talk about his dancing skills. Next, select one of the following options:

  • I want to dance with you.
  • Can’t you tell why I really followed you out there?

After choosing one of the above options, you must pass a persuasion check to kiss Wyll. Don’t worry; if you fail the persuasion check, Wyll will assure you that you guys can try again later.

Before entering Act Two, the player will decide to either spare or kill Karlach. Make sure to kill Karlach so Mizora doesn’t turn Wyll into a devil.

Act Two Romance Choices

Progress further in the main story in Act Two of Baldur’s Gate 3 until a scene triggers with Wyll. This can happen at random, so just be patient.

During this scene, you will find Wyll dancing in the camp, where you will start interacting with him and have dialogue options. Here is what you should pick during this scene:

  • Nice form. Where’d you learn to dance like that? / Stay quiet, and watch Wyll dance.
  • A new partner? And who might that be?
  • Smile and bow.

After, you must pass a skill check. If you fail the skill check, make sure to select the following options:

  • You’re a beautiful dancer. I’m sure you’ll teach me in no time.
  • Smile in embarrassment.

If you pass the skill check, make sure to select the following options:

  • Take a bow.
  • Smile nervously.

Once Wyll starts dancing with you more romantically, choose the options below.

  • Press your lips against Wyll’s.
  • Invite him closer with a knowing look.
  • I was hoping we might spend the night together.
  • Move in for another kiss.

While Wyll will deny your invitation to spend the night together, his approval will rise, and he will start to see you more in a romantic way.

Act Three Romance Choices

During Act Three in Baldur’s Gate 3, your first step in romancing Wyll is to complete the Duke Ravengaurd and learn about the Tale of Ansure. After doing so, another opportunity to speak to Wyll will appear during a long rest. When talking to him, Wyll will go on about his past. Select any first option, and then select the following:

  • Smile and take Wyll’s Hand.
  • Enjoy the view. Enjoy Wyll’s quiet company.

Those two options will lead Wyll on one knee and propose to you. Choose the two dialogue options below to officially romance Wyll.

  • Yes, yes, yes!
  • Join Wyll in the grass. Give yourself to him completely. / It’s about time. Let’s see what the Blade can do with his weapon.

Finally, a romance scene will begin with Wyll officially having you end up together. Remember, to increase your chances, always align your choices and actions with Wyll’s likes and dislikes throughout the entirety of your playthrough.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Minsc Approval and Romance Guide | Likes, Dislikes, and Dialogue Choices https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-minsc-approval-and-romance-guide-likes-dislikes-and-dialogue-choices/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-minsc-approval-and-romance-guide-likes-dislikes-and-dialogue-choices/#respond Thu, 23 Nov 2023 15:01:00 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=966990 Minsc is one of the last companions you can recruit into your party in Baldur’s Gate 3, and unlike every other party member, he cannot be romanced. However, you can become BFFs with him. Here’s a complete guide on how to romance Minsc in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How to Increase Shadowheart’s Approval in Baldur’s Gate 3

To earn the friendship of Minsc the Ranger in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must choose dialogue options and perform actions he approves of. As those who’ve played previous Baldur’s Gate games already know, Minsc is as noble as he is simple-minded. An almost fanatical champion of justice, Minsc will approve of any dialogue choices involving you denouncing evil acts and vowing to help defend the defenseless. He’ll also be pleased when you openly support his views since more cynical people often criticize him.

Related: Baldur’s Gate 3 Lae’zel Approval and Romance Guide | Likes, Dislikes, and Dialogue Choices

Minsc’s views of your actions are as transparent as his opinions of your dialogue choices. Minsc’s heart is as big as his frame, and he approves of actions where you show compassion to others and confront evil-doers directly. Minsc also has an exceptionally soft spot for animals, particularly his pet hamster Boo, and treating them kindly is guaranteed to raise his opinion of you. As you journey through the final act of Baldur’s Gate 3, make sure you choose to help others if you want to befriend Minsc.

Regarding Skill Checks, Minsc isn’t impressed when you succeed in any particular skill. However, since he approves treating animals humanely, Animal Handling checks will usually end with you earning Minsc’s approval.

Minsc’s Likes

Here’s a quick summary of the things that will make Minsc like you:

  • Act heroically when confronted with injustice.
  • Defend your allies, particularly Jaheira, in combat.
  • Treat animals with respect.
  • Support his beliefs.

Related: Baldur’s Gate 3 Shadowheart Approval and Romance Guide | Likes, Dislikes, and Dialogue Choices

Minsc’s Dislikes

If you’re a player who likes to tread the darker paths that Baldur’s Gate 3 presents you, you’ll have difficulty befriending Minsc. Minsc has a zero-tolerance policy regarding cruelty and selfishness, and he adamantly disapproves of acts and dialogue choices where you show indifference to other people’s suffering or try to manipulate them. If you’re kind, you’ll get along with Minsc just fine.

Minsc also despises animal cruelty and won’t hesitate to call you out if you mistreat animals. This is especially true for Boo, although that one’s completely understandable because, really, why would you ever want to hurt a hamster? Just be kind to animals, and Minsc will like you just fine.

Related: Baldur’s Gate 3 Karlach Approval and Romance Guide | Likes, Dislikes, and Dialogue Choices

To summarize, here are all the things you shouldn’t do if you want to be friends with Minsc.

  • Act unnecessarily violent and cruel.
  • Show disrespect to his beliefs on justice.
  • Be cruel to animals, particularly Boo.

Can You Romance Minsc?

Unfortunately for those of us who gravitated towards Minsc. You cannot romance him in Baldur’s Gate 3. Minsc will be utterly oblivious to your romantic undertones if you attempt to flirt with him, even admitting that he’s abstinent regarding the “under the blankets business” if you try to be more upfront about your attraction to him.

However, Minsc clarifies that he doesn’t think less of you for wanting a relationship and actively encourages you to follow your heart. While it’s unclear if Minsc was written to be asexual and/or romantic, it would not be surprising since Baldur’s Gate 3 goes to great lengths to represent LGBTQ+ characters and relationships positively.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Gale Build: Best Spells, Feats, and Multiclass https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-gale-build-best-spells-feats-and-multiclass/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/baldurs-gate-3-gale-build-best-spells-feats-and-multiclass/#respond Wed, 22 Nov 2023 18:29:38 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=967161 Do you know all the best Spells, Feats, and multiclass options for Gale in Baldur’s Gate 3? If not, you’re in the right place!

Baldur’s Gate 3 is a fun game where you can play as different characters. One of these characters is Gale, a wizard with lots of cool spells. This guide will help you make Gale the best he can be!

Best Builds for Gale in Baldur’s Gate 3

Gale can be many things, but one of my favorite ways to play him is as an Evocation Wizard. This school allows you to learn evocation spells at half cost and give your allies immunity to your evocation spells. At level 6, your Evocantion Cantrips become more powerful. At level 10, you add your Intelligence Modifier to your spells.

Best Feats for Gale

Feats are special skills that make Gale even better. Here are some good ones for Gale:

  • Ability Improvement: All characters can benefit from this feat. You increase one Ability by 2, or two Abilities by 1, to a maximum of 20.
  •  War Caster: You gain Advantage on Saving Throws to maintain Concentration on a spell. You can also use a reaction to cast Shocking Grasp at a target moving out of melee range.
  •  Spell Sniper: You learn a cantrip, and the number you need to roll a Critical Hit while attacking with a spell is reduced by 1. This effect can stack.

Gale’s Best Spells

Gale-Cover
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Gale can use lots of different spells. Here are some of the best ones:

  • Cantrips: Fire Bolt, Shocking Grasp, Bone Chill, Mage Hand.
  • Level 1 spells: Shield, Mage Armor, Magic Missile, Witch Bolt.
  • Level 2 spells: Shatter, Knock.
  • Level 3 spells: Counterspell, Lightning Bolt, Fireball.
  • Level 4 spells: Dimension Door, Greater Invisibility, Blight.
  • Level 5 spells: Cone of Cold, Telekinesis.
  • Level 6 spells: Chain Lightning, Disintegrate, Sunbeam.

Knock is by far one of the best utility spells of the game. Not having a key or a rogue in your team won’t ever be a problem. Cast Knock and you’re good to go. It opens any locked door or chest. Invisibility is also useful in a number of situations. You can use it to ambush your enemies and start a combat encounter from a better position.

Best Multiclass Choices for Gale in BG3

Gale-Baldurs-Gate-3
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

Wizard is not the best class for multiclassing combos, but there are ways to make it work.

  • Sorcerer: You gain access to Metamagic, allowing you to regain and shape spell slots. You also have access to more spells, making you a powerful and versatile spellcaster. Storm Sorcerer is a subclass that works well with Evocation Wizards.
  •  Fighter: As a Wizard/Fighter, you can fight at close range, last longer during battles, and use spells to buff yourself and last longer. It’s a very versatile combination, but it depends on having high scores in three different Abilities.
  •  Spore Druid: Being a Spore Druid and a Necromancer at the same time is the ultimate build for those who want to have as many undead servants as possible at the same time in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Should You Kill or Spare Fezzerk in Baldur’s Gate 3? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/should-you-kill-or-spare-fezzerk-in-baldurs-gate-3/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/should-you-kill-or-spare-fezzerk-in-baldurs-gate-3/#respond Wed, 22 Nov 2023 16:42:35 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=967824 You’ll meet plenty of NPCs throughout Baldur’s Gate 3— some friends, and many foes. Fezzerk is a goblin you can encounter in Act 1, and although he’s certainly no friend, you don’t have to make an enemy out of him. Here’s what happens when you fight or spare Fezzerk the goblin.

Kill or Spare Fezzerk the Goblin

Simply put, if you kill Fezzerk, you’ll receive a decent axe. But if you spare him, you’ll gain approval with some companions and have the opportunity to see Fezzerk again later.

Rescue the Gnome

You’ll find Fezzerk in the Blighted Village at X: 6, Y: 419. Fezzerk and his band of goblins are torturing a Deep Gnome, who they’ve tied to a rapidly spinning windmill. Fezzerk will be quite hostile in dialogue, and from here, the game will give you three options: do nothing, fight Fezzerk, or convince him to leave.

Fight Fezzerk

If you decide to attack the goblins or fail your checks, you’ll initiate combat with Fezzerk and his friends. There will be eight enemies total— Fezzerk, two Worgs, and five other goblins. Don’t stress about the numbers here, as when Fezzerk reaches 5 HP, he will give up, and the rest of the goblins will flee. If you’re looking for blood and XP, save Fezzerk for last. If you’re losing the fight, focus on Fezzerk to end it early. Beware— you will not receive XP for goblins that run away.

When Fezzerk surrenders, you will have the option to kill or spare him. You can get a bit of information from him first, like an alternative pathway into the nearby goblin camp. If you decide to kill Fezzerk, you can loot a Very Heavy Greataxe from his body.

Spare Fezzerk

If you spare Fezzerk, whether after fighting him or before the fight altogether, he and the rest of the goblins will flee, allowing you to rescue the Deep Gnome. Gale, Karlach, and Shadowheart will approve of your kindness. You’ll still receive XP as if you had fought the goblins.

If you spare Fezzerk, he’ll make another appearance in Act 2!

Moonrise Towers: Kill or Spare Fezzerk

fezzerk_moonrise
Image: Attack of the Fanboy

When you enter Moonrise Towers, you’ll find Fezzerk and some other goblins (and potentially Minthara) awaiting punishment for failing to secure the mysterious artifact. General Thorm informs you that their fate is yours— decide what to do with them. Fezzerk begs for mercy, for old time’s sake. Again, you can either spare or kill Fezzerk. The only thing to lose or gain from this choice is approval.

Kill Fezzerk

If you have Fezzerk and the goblins kill themselves, or you choke them to death, Astarion will approve, but Karlach and Wyll will disapprove.

If you have Fezzerk and the goblins fight you, Lae’zel and Karlach will approve, but Astarion will disapprove.

Spare Fezzerk

If you spare Fezzerk, Karlach will approve, but Astarion, Halsin, and Lae’zel will disapprove. If your origin is Noble or Urchin, you will gain an inspiration point.

Either way, there aren’t significant gameplay consequences for sparing or killing Fezzerk— just moral ones. Killing him rewards you with a weapon, but it may be a tough fight depending on your level. Sparing him may lower some companions’ approval of you, but you’ll get a second chance to kill him in Act 2 if you change your mind. Unfortunately for Fezzerk, his life is mainly a roleplay opportunity.

In Act One, you can start by completing the quest, Save the Refugees, by choosing to side with the Tieflings.

If you manage to steal Mol’s contract from the House of Hope, she will agree to assist in the final battle. Even if Raphael is eliminated, you can still present the contract to Mol.

However, you must not mention Raphael’s demise and you must pass a successful Persuasion Check. Note that if you’re playing as a Warlock, you will have a unique dialogue option instead of the skill check.

Here’s how to find and save Baelen in Baldur’s Gate 3, and get some Noblestalk out of it too.

How to Save Baelen from the Bibberbang

To save Baelen, you’ll first have to find him.

Finding Baelen

Baelen can be found in Act 1, within the Bibberbang Grotto (X: -22, Y: -75) in the northwest of the Underdark. You’ll find him surrounded by bibberbang, a mushroom that explodes into poisonous clouds if you get too close. It’s a good idea to make a quicksave right about now in case things go south on your rescue mission.

Saving Baelen

As you walk towards Baelen and the bibberbang, a cutscene will play. Baelen will urge you not to come any closer, as he’s dropped his torch, and the entire grotto will surely explode if disturbed. He needs to reach for his bag, which has a scroll of Misty Step within.

From here, there are a few different ways you can save Baelen. Before you proceed, make sure to split your character from the party, as the others will mindlessly follow you into the deadly bibberbang otherwise.

Misty Step, Fly, Enhanced Leap, or Dimension Door

Use one of the listed abilities to fly, leap, or teleport to Baelen’s bag, which is just a few feet from him. Then, either throw his bag or the scroll of Misty Step inside to Baelen. He will use the scroll to teleport to safety. You can then fly, leap, or teleport back to where you started.

Mage Hand

If you have a character with Mage Hand, you can avoid going into the bibberbang altogether. Cast Mage Hand and have the hand throw the bag to Baelen.

Scroll of Misty Step

Have a spare scroll and a good arm? Throw your scroll of Misty Step at Baelen, and he will use it to teleport out.

Obtaining the Noblestalk

After Baelen is safe, he will thank you, give you a scroll of Invisibility, and leave, forgetting why he was even here in the first place. His wife sent him for the Noblestalk and luckily, we can finish what he started.

The Noblestalk is located at X: -5, Y: -60. If you’re having trouble finding it, use the Alt key to highlight items. The easiest method of obtaining the Noblestalk is using Mage Hand to drag, not throw, the mushroom over to you. Throwing the mushroom will destroy it. You can also use Misty Step to teleport over. Or, if you’re not the magic type, you can throw a jug of water over the lit torch, drink a potion of Poison Resistance, and simply walk through.

Now that you’ve got the Noblestalk, it’s up to you to decide what to do with the cure-all mushroom.

Should You Kill the Owlbear in Baldur’s Gate 3? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/should-you-kill-the-owlbear-in-baldurs-gate-3/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/should-you-kill-the-owlbear-in-baldurs-gate-3/#respond Mon, 20 Nov 2023 18:49:31 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=966854 Have you encountered the owlbear in Baldur’s Gate 3 and pondered whether to kill it? I’ve had the same thought, especially after spotting its cub.

While it may appear obvious to attack the owlbear, it’s worth considering the potential repercussions. Could there be any benefits to sparing the beast’s life? Does its newborn serve any purpose? Is there any use to its newborn?

What Happens if You Kill the Owlbear in BG3?

You’ll earn experience points (XP) and possibly an Inspiration point if your character has specific backgrounds such as Outlander. However, it’s important to note that these rewards are not unique as there are many other ways to earn them. There’s nothing unique or particularly special that one can gain or lose from killing the owlbear, except for gaining Gale’s and Shadowheart’s approval when you decide to leave the beast alone. So this decision is ultimately yours.

What Happens if You Let the Owlbear Live?

Regrettably, choosing not to kill the owlbear doesn’t prevent its inevitable death. You can avoid the cave and raid it using invisibility spells or potions, or by waiting for a group of goblins to kill the owlbear after you take a Long Rest. The good news is that you can still loot the owlbear’s corpse and nest without getting your hands dirty. Whether you kill the owlbear or not doesn’t really affect the storyline, as long as you leave the cub unharmed.

What Happens to the Owlbear’s Cub in Baldur’s Gate 3?

If you fancy the idea of having an owlbear cub as a pet, you must ensure not to harm it at all. You can also let the goblins kill the owlbear mother. Either way, the goblins will take the cub with them. You will find it at the goblin camp where you meet Minthara. If you rescue the cub, it will appear at your own camp later. This will happen no matter how the owlbear mother dies, but make sure to do all that during Act 1.

If you use the Speak with Animals spell, the cub will talk to you about goblins and his mother. The young owlbear can share many intriguing details if you’re keen to discover some peculiar facts about the unique species of Faerûn. If you keep it around, you might even be able to summon it during the final battle.

Where to Use the Flower Key in Baldur’s Gate 3 https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/where-to-use-the-flower-key-in-baldurs-gate-3/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/where-to-use-the-flower-key-in-baldurs-gate-3/#respond Mon, 20 Nov 2023 18:45:40 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=966902 The Flower Key is a special item in Baldur’s Gate 3. It’s used to solve a side quest called the Open Hand Temple Murders.

You can get the Flower Key from a fallen enemy that’s hidden far from the crowded streets of a place called Wyrm’s Crossing. However, once you’ve found it, where should you use it?

What to Do With the Flower Key in BG3

The Flower Key reveals a secret room hidden within a wardrobe in Fraygo’s Flophouse. Once you have the Flower Key, make your way to Fraygo’s Flophouse. It’s located in the southern area of Wyrm’s Crossing’s Waypoint. While it may look like a regular building, it holds more secrets than one might initially think.

Once you get inside Fraygo’s Flophouse, go to the top floor. You will find a bedroom with many chests. Look for a ladder placed on a wall. It will lead you upstairs. There, you will find a locked wardrobe. This is what you’re looking for. Use the Flower Key to unlock it, revealing a hidden area.

The hidden room contains a number of interesting items. Make sure you look at the Temple Plans laid out on the table. This will help you progress in the Open Hand Temple Murders quest. Also, check the blood stains near the bed to find the body of a person named Ffion. Finding this body helps you progress in the Stern Librarian Ffion quest.

After discovering the secret room and Ffion’s body, meet with Inspector Valeria on the first floor of Sharess’ Caress. She will give you a pass that allows you to enter the fortress and lower city. Valeria will also ask you to report your findings to Devella. If you let Mamzel Amira know about Ffion’s fate and ask for a reward, she will offer you a free night with one of the drow twins. Whether you want this or not, the choice is yours, but some companions might not like it.
