The series is set in 1930s New York and will follow an aging Spider-Man Noir as he confronts his past as the city’s sole superhero. This series marks the first television venture within Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU). It looks like Sony is really going all in to compete with Marvel, and they couldn’t have chosen a better storyline to follow.

Nick Cage loves comics more than the average person and always gives his best in his roles. Seeing him take on a role he has already done well with is just great. We also really hope he’ll be webswinging in the show.

The Production is for an eight-episode series, and it started in August 2024. It is scheduled to finish in February 2025, which means we may get to see it soon. Emmy Award-winner Harry Bradbeer will direct the first two episodes, after that, we’re not sure. The series is expected to premiere on MGM+ in the U.S. and internationally on Prime Video in 2025. That is the only unfortunate part.

MGM+ is nowhere near as popular as other streaming services and is very late to the game. This could hurt Cage’s Spider-Man Noir series, and unless Prime can get it in its own catalog, that’s reason enough for someone not to watch.

The channel premiered on September 30th with a lineup of popular movies and television episodes, including Black Panther, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and the first episode of The Mandalorian. The Hits & Heroes channel is one of four new live streams introduced by Disney+. The other three cater to different interests: ‘Hallowstream’ for seasonal content, ‘Throwbacks’ for classic movies and shows, and ‘Real Life’ for documentaries and biopics.

The introduction of these live channels is pivotal for Disney+. The streaming service recently achieved profitability in August 2024 and added ABC News and Disney+ Playtime live feeds in September. Furthermore, Disney plans to launch an ESPN streaming service in December 2024. These developments suggest a significant push by Disney to expand its streaming offerings to better compete with others.

Andy Serkis is the actor who is claimed to be coming. Serkis is well-known for his roles as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings movies and Caesar in The Planet of the Apes movies. This rumor originates from industry insiders, including DanielRPK on Patreon and My Time To Shine Hello on X (formerly Twitter), who suggest that Serkis will portray the formidable villain.

Knull is the creator of the symbiotes and is hinted to be a significant antagonist in Venom 3, with the trailer briefly showcasing the character. However, the identity of the actor playing Knull has been kept tightly under wraps, which obviously is there to fuel curiosity among fans.

If the rumors are accurate, this would be Serkis’ second foray into the Marvel universe, having previously portrayed Ulysses Klaue in Black Panther. Knull would be very CGI-heavy, so Serkis would be great for the role, as he’s known for his expertise in motion capture.

Interestingly, Serkis has already denied any involvement in Venom 3 during a 2022 interview with Slash Film, citing his commitment to directing Animal Farm. This was a project that got delayed due to Venom: Let There Be Carnage. While the studio has not confirmed Serkis’ involvement, the rumors persist.

We think that Serkis would be great in the role. He’s always brought a fantastic performance wherever he goes, and we’d love to see more of him. If it turns out this isn’t true, it’d be quite the loss, but if it’s not Serkis, whoever it is now has big shoes to fill just because of rumors. We’ll have to wait and see.

Gunn swiftly refuted the rumors, denying it all. Gunn took to his Threads account to address the rumors, stating that there was no truth to the reports and emphasizing that fans should exercise caution when encountering information about DC Studios’ plans. He clarified that any official announcements regarding upcoming projects would come directly from him or his co-CEO, Peter Safran.

The source of the rumor appears to be a listing in Production Weekly that indicated a Mr. Freeze project was in the works. This led to a surge of questions from fans on Gunn’s social media, prompting his response. While Gunn dismissed the idea of a Mr. Freeze solo film at this time, he did express openness to the possibility in the future, acknowledging that it was “not a bad idea.”

As a longtime fan of Batman, I couldn’t agree more. Mr. Freeze is a classic Batman villain with a rich history in DC Comics. He was originally introduced as Mr. Zero in 1959 but was changed for Batman: The Animated Series. This reimagining presented Mr. Freeze as a tragic figure driven to crime to save his terminally ill wife. This version of the character was beloved and has become the defacto portrayal of Mr. Freeze since then.

The Batman Part II would be the only way to reintroduce Mr. Freeze, but it is expected to maintain a grounded, realistic tone, which might present challenges in incorporating Mr. Freeze’s more fantastical elements. However, we now know for sure that we won’t see Mr. Freeze anytime soon.

The film is a collaborative effort between several production companies. Gunn and Peter Safran will produce through DC Studios, Reeves through his 6th & Idaho production company, and Theresa Andersson through Swaybox Studios. Michael Uslan will serve as executive producer.

Dynamic Duo will be produced by Swaybox, a husband-and-wife animation studio based in New Orleans, known for its unique “Momo animation” style. This technique blends CGI, stop-motion animation, and live-action real-time performance. Arthur Mintz will direct the film, with a script penned by Matthew Aldrich, known for his work on Coco and Lightyear.

This project marks the first collaboration between DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation. It also signifies a move towards incorporating more animation into the DC Universe, as envisioned by James Gunn. Creature Commandos, an animated series, is already slated to be the first television series in the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

Dynamic Duo will be a standalone film, separate from Reeves’ Batman universe, which includes The Batman and The Penguin. The film is expected to have a theatrical release, though a date has not yet been announced. All we really know about the film is who is working on it and what to expect from the studios. Plot, outlines, and even cast have not been announced. Hopefully, we’ll hear more soon.

Sue Vertue, the show’s producer, recently indicated that the popular series, which starred Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Dr. John Watson, has a potential future. Vertue, who runs the production company Hartswood Films, stated that the show can continue, but its return depends on the alignment of various factors, most importantly the availability and willingness of the actors to reprise their roles.

This isn’t the first time a potential return has been discussed. Earlier this year, Mark Gatiss, co-creator and star of Sherlock, expressed interest in creating a film. He also acknowledged the challenges of coordinating the schedules of all involved.

Benedict has become a huge actor since Sherlock ended, being a superhero in Marvel’s Doctor Strange movies has given him a boost in stardom. He is likely  a lot more expensive to hire, and may not feel the need to return to the role.

The last time audiences saw Cumberbatch and Freeman together as Holmes and Watson was in 2017. Since then, fans have eagerly awaited news of a possible continuation of the series. It’s not like the show had a lack of fans, so it could be brought back if the actors want it.

It would be unthinkable to reboot the series or replace Sherlock, but that is not out of the realm of possibility. If the studio wants to make a Sherlock and they feel they can capture the same audience without the actors, that’s not something they’d shy away from. We doubt that’s going to happen, but as more people call for Sherlock, it’s only a matter of time before a decision is made.
